Swann was proven in 2012, and Pruitt’s comments seem to indicate that Swann may be back to that form after having been deGranthamed.

And Corey Moore is a senior with decent playing time under his belt. The rest are fair game. Hope they can rise to the occasion.

True. But he’s never been dependable, and I never recall him playing hard. Experience counts, but he isn’t “proven”, per se. The only thing he’s proved to this point is, in 4 years time, he could never learn the defense.
But, by most accounts, he has had a good offseason and taken advantage of his new opportunity. So his slate is wiped clean, AFAIC, and he has a fresh start. I’m hoping for the best, because we need an older guy back there.
IMHO, we don’t need the player he was until this year. So I’m hoping to see a very different Corey Moore.

I imagine every team will go at our secondary early and often. Until we can show someone that our dbs are better, everyone will be throwing at them.

Until the D shows them that they are going to knock snot bubbles out of opposing Qb’s. That is job #1.

I’m guessing the best O-line wins. We need to push them around enough with our running game and pass protection for Bobo’s preference for a balanced attack to eat up clock. If their OL stuffs our DL rush, our secondary is going to get picked apart.
Glad we have Marshall Morgan…can he kick a 60 yarder?

Yep. Even if he misses from 60 he’ll at least be able to get it out of the end zone and avoid the run back for a TD. 🙂

Not to single out one particular player, because he’s a walk on giving it his all, but Conner Norman was Clemson’s ATM last year. Hopefully our player in the secondary will at least be decent enough and our coaches willing to adjust enough to not allow one player to get abuses like that. Same thing could be said about Langley last year against SCU.

Looks like its my day to be the contrarian. Our DBs won’t be the big story. I say clemson looks to be a lousy running team, with a lot of questions on their OL, and their top returning OL suspended. I think we go with 5 DBs most of the game. Floyd & Jenkins spend all evening chasing (and catching) stoudt.

This. I think too much is being made about the secondary. Unproven? Yes. But no team, not even with Georgia’s walk on talent, should ever give up as many 3rd and longs as we did last year. I think we get them in 3rd and longs (a bunch with the stud OLBs) and the secondary steps up to the challenge. I am counting the seconds.

I agree. I think Clemson is going to have a really hard to running the ball. No offense is going to be very successful if it is totally one dimensional. We will be able to get after the QB in 3rd / long situations and will actually have 5 DBs on the field instead of some LBs who can’t cover a crossing route.

Don’t forget LoCar W. Cobb. You’re totally right, if they can’t run the ball, I think we are in good shape and I KNOW that our secondary can’t be as bad as it was last year, it’s just not possible.

Enter Hutson Mason. What have we got to overcome other shortcomings in our game? A man who has had a long wait and is now qualified as patient to a fault.
A very confident man of his 4, going on 5-year experience at UGA, Hutson knows every play in the UGA book plus new plays for the next two games and has completed his baptism under fire in 3 games in 3 differing conferences with lotsa points on the board. He can do hurryup as well as Murray. He is tough, like Murray and he is a honed winner. I’ve already become possessive and don’t want any other man to run this team.
As a student, like many of us were, Hutson has early memories of crossing the bridge to North Campus and hearing the echo of the announcer in Sanford and he would dream of playing. Now, place yourself in his head and hear his heart also. Think of his feelings of love of his state and UGA in every move he has on the playing field. He is an all-Georgia man. He will make the Chapel Bell ring for us all and I don’t see how he can ever lose, even if he has to place extra points on the board to overcome any other team shortcomings and even if he has the jitters. He’s Dawg through and through. Remember these things when you are in Sanford Stadium Saturday and yelling your heads off. There’s no reason for us not to be loyal to him in his first game this season and in the same vein as our loyalty for his situational predecessor, D.J..

Plus, IMHO, he has a moxie that Murray didn’t have. I expect we’ll see it at times this year. We all love Murray. But I like his psyche much better than Murray’s.

Don’t know that Murray. I saw a load of moxie out of him…taking late hits, running the ball and not taking a slide, still trying to play with the torn knee, come-backs…last minute winning drives…Murray is the picture of moxie to me. Maybe we have different ideas of what “moxie” is.
Not trying to be argumentitive..just a little suprised to see that.
BTW..I agree that Mason will have plenty of all the good things mentioned there.

Yeah, IDK that my idea of moxie is the right one. And it’s not like Murray didn’t have any. He did. But his was more developed, IMO, and most of it didn’t show up until his senior year (I think the 2012 SECCG got him over the hump, in that regard). He was always tough .. amazingly so, really.
Whereas I think Mason just has it. I hope so.

While I cannot say what is the “right” idea of moxie, I do agree that Murray did not play like a full fledged winner until last season. I have caught flack before about saying saying this. There is a big difference between winning a big game and playing like a winner in the big game. Murray showed that last year, albeit in a season with a fairly pedestrian W-L record. Gaudy stats aside, I went from feeling like he was a liability to being the guy you want leading your offense late in the fourth to put it away or come from behind. Transcendent performance in other words. Mason really impressed with the tech game last year in that regard.

Well said. I agree. I thought the SECCG performance got it going, and he finished it off against LSU, with that great game. I was so happy for him to finally get over that hump. Privately, Murray would talk about it. It was tough on him. He knew he had to slay that monster and have that kind of year to have any shot at the pros.
But boy, after that, he was the man. I was totally confident we had a good chance to score from anywhere, if we had at least 30 seconds. And THAT is really saying something.
