Somebody’s in a bad place today.
Every year in college football, there’s a team with significant expectations that just implodes. In 2013, it was Florida falling from 10th in the preseason poll to 4-8. In 2012, Southern California started at No. 3 and ended up in El Paso. The year before that, Texas A&M started in the top 10 and finished off a 7-6 season in a forgettable bowl game against Northwestern.
This year we already have our winner in that derby of derp: South Carolina.
The Gamecocks are a mess, and you wonder now if they’ll rally and make even a minor bowl game or just pack it in for the year.
Sure, it sucks immensely that Georgia lost to the ‘Cocks, but other than that, I can live with how this is turning out. At this point, if they beat Florida, it probably helps out Georgia’s chances. And at least “the road to the SECCG runs through Columbia, South Carolina” meme is dead for another year.
Let’s make it 4 years in a row that south Carolina can beat their chest that they defeated the east champ.

Spurrier retires after this season. You heard it here first!

Man, I hope not. The rose is off the bloom over in Columbia, but I don’t want him gone until Georgia gets one more crack at him in Athens. I hate to see him leave while he is on top of the Dawgs.
But it’s hard not to imagine that his days as a Cock (oh boy) are not getting short. And you have to wonder who will replace him. He will almost be impossible to fully replace. He is such an icon in college football that kids and familys swoon over the attention they get from him on the recruiting trail. His name sells, and rightfully so. I don’t see anyone else emulating that, and USCEast will regress to the mean…(and may have already).

I have Gamecock associates convinced it will be Mark Dantonio

It makes a kind of sense. He did go to So. Carolina and the Cocks’ AD can certainly lay out any kind of $$ that MSU would wave.

Spurrier leaving actual scares me a little bit, I believe he does the bare minimum as head coach to get the success he has currently has. Imagine Rich Rod with SEC talent and a chip on his shoulder.

Rich Rod wil never leave Arizona. He will take and keep the bird in the hand after the Michigan fiasco.

I could honestly see it. “Well, we had a bad year, and maybe that’s on me, but at least I beat Georgia.” No way he’d retire in a year we beat him.

as I was saying…. all UGA needs to do is to just barely eek through the schedule and win the SEC East. Then it’s a 3 game tournament for the national championship. October’s passing yards don’t matter. Gurley’s September yards won’t matter if he’s not peaking in December.
That means if we keep winning we might get to play Auburn three times this season.

An excellent observation HVL. Nobody in the SEC East is better than the Dawgs. We’re favored over Mizzou even though that game is in Columbia, MO. If Georgia keeps winning the Dawgs will likely be favored in the rest of the regular season games they play except for Auburn and that is at Sanford–an equalizer. I like Georgia’s chances to win the East and, as you said, it then becomes a case of winning one more game for the SEC title and 3 more games for the National Championship.

I am not enjoying the Gamecocks plight too much, because a loss at Mizzou means we will crack the Top 10 Misery Index.

Ya know, it does suck that we lost to them, but we really beat ourselves (something I too was great at at UGA) and every year a shit team beats someone they shouldn’t so, oh well. Couldn’t agree more Senator. Not to mention, an angry Spurrier is much more entertaining than a not so angry Spurrier. Would like to see them roll UF and CU just to hear him jab at Dabo all summer.

Shoot! That’d make my damn day. We’ve taken back the streaky series with the Gators, and an opportunity to humiliate him following his “triumphal” return to Swampland would be too good to be true–so I guess won’t happen.

I hope Spurrier sticks around, and we start kicking his tail regularly once again; I especially hope Muschamp shows Driskell some love and puts him back in the lineup though the Jax game.

I’ll bet Driskell is through, unless UF crashes so badly that Boom decides to play him out of spite..(to UF fans and all) . He IS capable of such.

With the Harris thing, Driskel will be back for the year. Roper has already started training him how to throw the ball downfield.

With Grier out with a back injury, Driskel’s pretty much their only option, isn’t he? Or is Morningwheg still there?

Now that’s a heck of a thought, HVL. That situation would almost certainly favor the Dawgs….becauses it would mean Georgia won the first two (in all likelyhood). If AU wins in the regular game, or in the SECCG, Georgia won’t play them for the third. If Georgia wins both of those, you get the credit for seeing it first.

EXCEPT (continued from above post)…if Georgia beat AU twice, AU won’t be in the final four anyway…so it ain’t happening, I don’t believe.

I could see it as we lose to Auburn but win the East with 2 loss tiebreaker over Mizzou. Play undefeated Auburn in SECCG and win. UGA goes to playoffs as SEC Champion and 1 loss Auburn goes. Seperate brackets, so 3rd game would be for all the marbles. Auburn leads with :20 seconds on the clock at their 40 and goes for 4th and inches to ice the game. Marshal fumbles the snap and Dawgs get the ball. Having learned his lesson, but with no time-outs, Bobo puts Gurley in the wild dawg. Gurley fakes the handoff to IMac on the jet sweep right and rolls left. Bennett misses his block and Gurley is chased to the outside. Play completely breaking down, no time, no hope, so Todd justs heaves it down the field….to a waiting Hutson Mason. All alone he sprints into the end zone as time runs out.
911 systems in Atlanta and throughout Georgia shut down from an overload of calls for heart attacks.
I needed to stop typing at some point before now.

Spurrier achieved his personal goal for the season – beating us.
The team has looked totally different, unprepared, etc in every other game this year.

I always chalked it up to tinfoil hat type stuff (even in my own mind), but the body of evidence sure suggests that Spurrier goes all out for the Dawgs, even to the detriment of prep for the other games on the schedule.

I’ve come to believe that. I don’t think it’s intentional, but he is a super competitive guy who holds an almost fifty year grudge against UGA…or maybe it is intentional. Who knows what’s in that head?

Exactly–they play us better than anyone else on their schedule…including Clemson. Spurrier’s hatred for Georgia is worth 7-10 points every time they play.
My first thought seeing their score Saturday was “They can’t just beat us…they have to beat us and then spend the rest of the year making that loss look worse and worse and worse.” Assholes.

Spurrier’s obsession with beating Georgia used to be kind of cool and dangerous when he was beating everyone else, but now that he’s become a doddering, old saddo, it’s just pathetic and weird.
He and Sakerlina and their two-game schedule deserve each other.

Phantom holding call on Gurley TD, failure to score on 1st and goal from the 4… thats 14 points left out there right there. We played like shit and still should have won against their A+ game at night on the road in the rain… however coulda woulda shoulda means nothing in this game

The loss wont matter because it was so early in the season. If we keep winning, by time playoffs roll around, all that will be talked about is us beating Auburn and winning the SEC champ game. Also if Gurley keeps playing lights out, that will give even more incentive for UGA to be in the top 4 mix.

The loss will mean something if Georgia has a second conference loss. That’s why Georgia must win out, yet others (i.e. Auburn) can still afford to lose a game and still be in the hunt.

Spurrier was hired by South Carolina for two reasons…to beat Clemson, and to beat Georgia.
He has done just that…and not much else.

Nice going, Ball Coach. You’ve won a Heisman Trophy as a player, multiple SEC championships and a national championship as a coach, and you made Carolina competitive. And you will forever have “77” (Stanfill) and “76” (Patton) tattooed on your ass from the ’66 game with Georgia, which kept you from winning an SEC title as a player. So pack it in after the Clemson game and go back to Johnson City or Gainesville or wherever you’ll play your daily retirement golf.. Good luck and good riddance.
