“I said, no, no, no. We don’t want to play Georgia Tech.”

What is it with Auburn coaches running away from ACC competition?  The Chiz wouldn’t step up against the genius? “You talk to any coach out there they do not want to play the Georgia Techs of the world.”

If nothing else, that ought to disqualify him from another head coaching job ever.

Because nothing good comes from a game against Tech. You’re supposed to beat them on top of the risk you take with their cut blocking injuring your D-lineman. If you’re Auburn, you might as well schedule UAB or Troy.

Could it be because of all the chop blocks?

I don’t think it’s so much the cut blocking as it is just having to reteach defending the option, which practically nobody sees very much these days.

I’m with the Chiz on this one. If you have the choice, why put Tech on your schedule? The gimmick offense and the unethical cut blocking in the middle of a season sandwiched between say a Tennessee and Ole Miss game is not a favorable situation. I’m w/ Tenn Dawg – go schedule UAB or Troy.

I have to agree with Cheatzatit, too for all those reasons. Plus they’d have to play the Nerds home and away. Better to have Troy at home every year. Another home game plus all the profit from use of your own stadium facilities, concessions, etc.

Besides, why would you want silly, yellow nerds invading your campus and town? They don’t even bring any eye-candy to speak of. Then, when you play them at home, they have limited seating in a high-school stadium in a crime infested area…and your car gets vandalized and you have to dodge the yellow painted bozos throwing stuff at you and puking on the sidewalks.

The Chiznit is, by far, the most articulate analyst on the SEC network, not that that says a lot. I do wish he would talk to a new tailor.

I am also with the Chiz about playing Tech, but there is nothing we can do, I still have it, maybe wrongly, that the state legislature said we had to play the bozos.

Yep. Glad to see others speaking up for him. He is the only coach analyst worth listening to. When Matt’s on there with him, they both show encyclopedic knowledge about the game and the SEC. Chizic states from experience and fact and Matt has his own areas of expertise to add. Other than game reruns, those two are the only ones with arena expertise. Their expertize is great also.

Now, Lisa has great knowledge, show management skills and great expertease. It’s nice to watch her while the other two converse.

Georgia/Tech is a nice rivalry that should continue. Even though we own CPJ, I just don’t like playing against his cheap, injury inducing (should be) illegal blocking. Just ask Georgia Southern this year. Tech even took out one of their best players with that trash blocking. Too bad the Eagles couldn’t close the deal on that scum.

Seems like we lose a DL to serious injury every year in the gtu game due to cut blocking. Only reason to play cpj is the historic in-state rivalry. It might make more sense to do a home-and-home with Valdosta State, Georgia State, Ga Southern, and ut-Chattanooga on a revolving schedule. Home and home would avoid the high cash payout, I’d assume. A game (or 2) each year in a different part of the state might allow access for the local UGA fans. Games with those schools would accomplish as much or more of what we get from playing cpj.

If we ever play Ga State in Atlanta we should see if we can rent Bobby Dodd for the event. That way everybody wins, right?

That’s a great idea, WCD. Especially concerning the Blazers who are Champions in their own right and are kinda special to me. Playing in Valdosta would present a challenge to FSU’s recruiting in that area.

  8. I see your point Senator. We get a (somewhat) respectable win against an annoying in state rival. But for other teams…well… see the comments above. There is just no satisfaction in risking defenders knees and completely retooling a defensive scheme for one opponent on the schedule.

If GT played a halfway normal offense, this would not be an issue.

stick around a couple more years. PJ will have met his inevitable Waterloo, and the next guy will go back to running a conventional offense at the usual substandard GTU level.

Best part of that will be the transition from old timey offense to whatever the new guy brings in. We ought to get some beatings in on them while that happens that will have them talking about 2002 as “close.” (Plus it should finally in that inane bowl streak they have that we’re tied with, and I also still hate that they own the longest win streak in the series at 8 in a row.)

  10. Playing and getting thrashed by Tech to start the previous season is a major reason why their ’04 undefeated team got left out. Tubberville and his preseason #1 team got beat down by Tech and finished the season unranked. Started the next season ranked much lower and couldn’t made it up.

jaboo52. “going with nothing but cupcakes OOC”..REALLY?? That is a ridiculous and untrue statement. Just like most SEC teams, Auburn has played 1 power conference team, 1 mid major, and 2 cupcakes to round out the schedule. 2009 thru 2014 you will see Clemson( multiple times), West Virginia, Washington State, and Kansas State on that schedule.

Clemson, West Virgina, Washington State and Kansas State are every bit the “powerhouse” that Tech is. Three of them are clearly superior IMHO and one is about parallel. If you are suggesting that Tech is superior to those four programs, I think you are on the wrong blog. You’re looking for Stingtalk.

What was I thinking? Tech IS a far superior program to Clemson and Kansas State and West Virginia AND Auburn is dodging Tech to play those “cupcakes.” I do “get it” now. ‘It” is a knee-jerk, stupid, misinformed judgment about Auburn’s scheduling history and you “get it” when you agree with or fail to point out the stupidity of such analysis. By all means, continue with your very impressive thoughts. Perhaps you could dazzle us with some more insight into Tech’s “powerhouse” program that the other teams in the SEC dodge in order to play cupcakes like Clemson. I just can’t wait to “get it” some more.

C’mon. You can list more cupcakes than those schools. OK, maybe not so much KS. That would make Georgia the juggernaught on your schedule every year, correct?
