Efficiency is good. Real good.

The folks at SportSourceAnalytics paint an interesting statistical portrait of Georgia’s offense.

That’s about field position, a little bit of Isaiah McKenzie… oh, and one other thing.

Impressive.  How impressive?  Impressive enough to carry the defense.

And here’s one bonus stat, for kicks.

Bobo’s best season?  Or is it too soon to judge?

This season AND last season have been pretty remarkable (overall, of course) considering the injuries all across the O.

It amazes me that somehow we’re averaging MORE points this year than we did last year or in 2012 WITHOUT the SEC record-setting quarterback in Aaron Murray OR Todd Gurley for 4 games.

I know the special teams turnaround has contributed, but dang Bobo has done a good job to go with it.

If you don’t mind, logic and stats aren’t welcomed in the same breath with Bobo.

Bobo has painstakingly built this team from the great recruiting jobs of the last two years. He has also made some silk purses out of sows’ ears, fashioned the best O in college ball and hones it’s athleticism in the SEC. There is nothing better out there. And some take a great coor like him for granted while others have never stopped pulling out their hair concerning his O calls. Some of the fan base just won’t let their misplaced egos be adjudged wrong and look at accomplishments even though we are on the same fan team.

I’d love to see what Bobo can do with a few all-SEC picks on the OLine. At that point we could see some real video game-type numbers.

(Hurriedly changes the new model drawing of the Bobo Family’s new Fing Scooter presented as a growing bonus each year.) This year’s Fing Scooter, dubbed the Bonerus, has four tires, two steering columns (front and rear), children’s seats on handlebars and a caboose. Bobo rides in the caboose which doubles as a tailgate. Since he doesn’t have time to set up a tailgate for games, I’ll leave it to you why it’s called a tailgate.

Sometimes his agent borrows it and rides alone in a circle around B-M as a contract reminder for the mouths that need to be fed. So far he has worn out last year’s model. B-M has shaded all it’s windows so they don’t have to see him begging.

Bodes very well for the future! With CJP now coaching the defense and the great recruiting classes being signed, there should be very little for Dawg fans to bitch about.
As for the remainder of this season…the sky is the limit if this team can find a little bit more defense.

Their recent post has nothing to do with sports at all but is instead health related. Something to do with the dangers of alcohol consumption. Someone is making their AA meetings I guess. If we scored a TD every play, and didn’t allow a first down on D, there are still places we could complain. Like, we didn’t we go for 2 each time vs. Tech, Auburn, and Florida? Or why couldn’t we force a turnover on first down against every team? Or question if our punting isn’t getting enough practice.

Those stats are great and should add money to Bobo’s contract. But if you add 2 L’s so far this season and the 5 L’s from 2013 that should get you a hot cup of coffee and 2 gold stars.

It’s awesome that Bobo and the offense are scoring points in bunches. He is due a raise as I mentioned prior. However, as evidence by 2 incredibly bad losses this year, they are not scoring enough points. This team has two bad losses this season that Bobo and the offense had a hand in. The offense is not without fault in either game. Are they to be blamed for either loss? To so degree, yes. Score from the 4 yard line vs Carolina and that’s a W. Take advantage of the1st quarter mojo, punch in a second TD and potentially take the wind and hope out of the Gators sails. Instead, both games proved to be awful stumbling blocks due in part to the offense falling short. The offense has one purpose…to score enough points to win. Sometimes that will be 24 points, 31 points or 45 points. In short, Bobo does his job extremely well some of the time.

To some degree Florida is on the D also. How many times should they have gotten us off the field on 3rd down? There’s plenty of blame to go around for that debacle, between not having the team in a Munson/Dooley mindset and just not matching their energy. And don’t EVEN get me started on field position…

Agree, our D rarely has had our offense’s back in the last 6-7 years. If our offense sputters, which against a completely legit Florida defense it could be expected to some, it finds itself down by three touchdowns, that changes your whole game plan and makes you one dimensional. Most of the embarrassments of the post Van Gorder era have been a result of our defense doing its swiss cheese impression in the first half and then our offense having to throw every down to try to catch up. Sometimes we’ve been able to come back and make a game of it at the end like the West Virginia Sugar Bowl game and sometimes not but when we get so far behind we have to throw our offensive gameplan out mid-way through the second quarter that’s really not fair to throw on the offense either.

“…our D rarely has had our offense’s back in the last 6-7 years.” You are 100% correct and this is where I find fault with our offense and the stats. Knowing full well that the D has shortcomings, it is the job of the O to take up the slack. Score, score and score some more. By whatever means required. That is just not happening. Does the D deserve a pass? Not at all. However, they came up with the turnover to help the O vs Carolina yet the O failed. Early in the Florida game the D was coming up with stops yet the O failed to put up a 2nd TD that could have closed the door on that fragile squad. The offense and their failures in the 1st quarter are what gave the Gators hope. But hey, let’s pat everyone on the back and hand out trophies. I grow increasingly tired of the same old excuses for the 2-4 losses that this program suffers on a yearly basis. I want improvement across the board. I just don’t see that happening any time soon. So our 12 weeks of college football will continue to be an exercise of frustration. Sit back, enjoy the wins and tolerate the unexplainable, unavoidable losses that are certain to come.

No Skeptic, the losses are avoidable, not unavoidable. Certainly the South Carolina loss was avoidable–just hand the ball to Gurley on 1st and goal from the 4. But that’s Bobo’s weakness–he has a brain cramp occasionally and loses a game at the end with a bad decision. That said, Bobo has done a really good job overall. You get your panties in a wad every time UGA has a loss, no matter how small, and want to blame Bobo for it. How many teams in NCAA D-IA are undefeated this season? Two, and the season’s only 2/3 over! This team averages the most points scored per game in the SEC. Scoring isn’t the problem. Grantham left the D in bad shape, plus all those DBs were getting kicked off/transferring. IMHO Pruitt has done a remarkable job with what he had to work with. Are there legitimate things to gripe about? Yes, but the overall O isn’t one of them.

Mayor, the avoidable losses are the reason for my frustration. I have no issue with getting beat by better teams. That’s gonna happen from time to time. But this annual faceplant to lesser teams is what kills me. This season we have seen two faceplants. Georgia is a better team than both Carolina and Florida this season. Lose to one of those and everything goal is still obtainable for the Dawgs. Two losses and this team finds itself looking up at friggin’ Mizzou. That’s what I find frustrating. And yes, the D carries it share of the blame in both games. But as I said earlier, when you know that the D will struggle the O has to pick up the slack. And that has not happened far too many times, SC and UF as specific examples this year.

                  Like

                • You say “pick up the slack” like it’s the easiest thing to do. At some point, you have to think Bobo wonders, “just how many points do I have to score?” I would say all three phases contribute to the losses. Why are we still picking on CMB?

Should we ever lose to an inferior team? Again, no. We should bring over Corch, who certainly didn’t lose to an inferior VA Tech team this year. Or Malzahn, who certainly didn’t lose to an inferior TAMU team. I mean, if you give Malzahn the ball first and goal, he’s certainly going to punch it in 100% of the time, no?

So Saban lost to a “superior” Ole Miss team ? Huh. Would you fire Miles at LSU now? I mean, damn…3 losses in conference! And Skeptic…there are currently only 11 teams in the top 25 that have fewer than 2 losses. Due to schedules, that number has to be reduced before the end of the season. You may not like 2 losses. You may think they happen “only” to inferior teams. But greater parity is rising in CFB within the conferences and the ability for multiple teams to run the gauntlet with no losses is becoming damn near impossible.

Or do we need to have that “is it or isn’t it” about the MNC discussion again? Let the season conclude. See if Richt can get us to the SECCG for the 6th time (more than any other active SEC coach) and see how things shake out there. We were more impressive vs. Kentucky and Arky than Missy St. They squeaked by LSU. Auburn and TAMU are their quality wins, but let’s see how they deal with Bama and Ole Miss before we get all jealous again of yet another SEC team doing better than UGA.

Bobo builds us a great shiny O Machine and you would think ,the way hardheads keep knocking him, that he is here only to do players’ laundry. Hardheads don’t see the hard work and resultant play we get as anything connected to Bobo. They still think he is dependant on Richt for playcalling and that makes it convenient to call for Richt’s head along with his perceived toadying O Coor. who is attached at the head. You can’t help them see the light. Just let them unenjoy the games.

And from the very beginning Bobo has been a better and more productive OC than Richt was when he was HC and OC. The difference is Richt was backed up by Van Gorder and Bobo not so much. If Bobo had Van Gorder level defensive production from 06-09 or 11-13, we’d have at least one if not two crystal balls in our trophy case from that time period.

UF had 4 offensive TD against us in 2010. So UF got 6 offensive TDs against Grantham in his four games at UGA, and got 4 offensive TDs against Pruitt.

You do realize that Bobo only calls the plays and it is up to the players to actually execute the calls right? I think people are underestimating how big the loss of Andrews was on the second series of the game. It compromised both the running game and the pass protection. If you can’t protect your QB then those intermediate/long routes don’t work. We also were getting no push on the O line for running either. UF has a good defense as well. We still should have won the game or at least kept it closer than it was. The blame for both of our losses this year goes on our defense.

This, a hundred times. The offense that Florida has been putting on the field this year had no business running all over us like that. Pruitt’s play calling, players’ underestimation of opponents, whatever…a fair share of that loss goes squarely on the D.

Good insight Rocket Dawg. Most people do not realize how important the center is to an offense. Andrews has been key for us this year and when he was injured it was difficult to recover against a good front 7. I don’t mean to put down his replacement, he tried hard, but losing a starting center mid-game is as serious as losing a starting QB.

Statistically, yes, perhaps his best season as a play caller; however, I’m pretty sure that’s cold comfort to him when he thinks about the UF game.
