In which I haz a sad last night…

So, as I’m watching the ACCCG (aka, The World’s Smallest Outdoor Cocktail Party… by the way, nice fog, guys), I find myself wondering if Hutson Mason is watching, too, and if he is, what’s going through his head as he sees FSU’s offensive line appear almost bored handling Ted Roof’s futile attempt to dial up a pass rush.

I swear, there were times when it felt like Winston had enough time in the pocket to pull out a cell phone and order take out.  From somebody whose first language isn’t English.

Georgia’s o-line sure picked a bad week to quit beasting on other teams.

  1. I remember raging at the same thing. I was thrilled to see Tech lose, but I still can’t believe we lost to those bums.

Mason picked a bad week to throw the worst pick of his life.

He should buy Ray Drew dinner for the next thirty years.

“Hey, Hutson, I blocked an extra point for you.”
“Ray, you shouldn’t have. Tech, here’s the ball!” Cries…

Tech plays in a championship game. We lose to 2 terrible East teams one of which attempted a whopping 3 passes. The only thing that could top that would be seeing a team you destroyed 34-0 go to the SECCG. D’OH! The East has been awful the last 2 seasons and we haven’t been to a SECCG. But I’m excited to be 9-3. Hey we were 8-5 last year so things are getting better!

  3. Take care of the ball inside the 5 and score a TD after a momentum changing play. That’s all that needed to happen, but you’re right, Senator, the offensive line picked a terrible Saturday to be downright offensive.

Couldn’t help but compare the hit by the Mizzou player against the Bama QB that, properly, warranted a penalty and prompt ejection to the cheap shot the Bama player delivered to Murray in 2012. And he didn’t even receive a flag. Go figure.

  6. There are SEC rules, and then there are whatever it is Alabama is subject to. I recall watching them play LSU last year and Mettenberger was hit at least 3 times by tackles 10 times worse than what got Ray Drew ejected against Vandy.

Yep. Not that I want that but the ACC would fall all over themselves to get Georgia, so a threat like that is reality-based.

I stipulate that Georgia moving to the ACC is highly unlikely. However, the ACC appears to be the most perfect of fits for the UGA Athletic Department and their current mindset. UGA would be surrounded by programs that put an emphasis on a academics, moral supremacy, and lesser sports. In the modern SEC, UGA is a misfit and does not belong. This is not meant to be a shot at the football program nor Richt. The ACC is just a better fit as of today for the Dawgs.

You are correct about the ‘Ville. That being said, the UGAAD and their philosophy would fit in perfectly with UNC (yes, they are a mess right now), Duke, UVA, Wake and Syracuse. On paper, Georgia is a better fit for the ACC than the SEC.

The depths you miserable people sink to is amazing. Move to the ACC or Big 10? You can’t beat ’em so turn tail and run? What a bunch of pussies!

Jim, did you read my entire comment? It has nothing to do with running from competition, and everything to do with the UGAAD and their vision/philosophy. Neither is inline with the current SEC. The only thing UGA has in common with the SEC programs is their desire to grow the bottom line.

I respectfully disagree with your premise. I think the UGAAD has a vision and philosophy of competing at the highest level. I will give you the fact that the reserve fund gets too much attention. I share disappointment in the won loss record. Maybe the strategies and tactics need tweaking, but we aren’t far off.

I have a vision of banging Scarlett Johansson. But it won’t happen because I’m not going to take the steps (like divorcing my wife and making a billion dollars) required to make it happen. So, I’m kind of like the UGAAD. I’ll just keep dreaming and telling myself that I’m not far off.

Skeptic I’m sorry to piss on your Corn Flakes, but Georgia is a good fit in the SEC academically and athletically. Everybody, everybody, thinks their school’s program in whatever discipline they got their degree is top this or top that. I think the infusion of higher scoring freshmen to Georgia is because of lottery scholarships more than Georgia suddenly raiding Harvard.

Georgia was good enough for this bonehead. It doesn’t have to put on airs.

And besides, you young whippersnappers have it easy.Things were a lot tougher when I was in Athens. Some of the bathrooms in the older buildings weren’t even air conditioned!

Guys, I am not advocating for a move to the ACC, nor I am even suggesting that it will ever happen. But there are fundamental differences between UGAAD (which many on this site have clearly stated numerous times) compared to that of Bama, Auburn, Florida, LSU, Tennessee, USC and now potentially MSU and Ole Miss. This is not a knock on the university, the AD, nor the football program. If, as Jim says, the vision of the UGAAD is to compete at the highest level it is only to gain the highest dollar and nothing more.

  7. Hard to generate a pass rush when a team is having the type of rushing success FSU was having late.

Mason is thinking more about throwing that premeditated pass turned INT to end the game. All “let er rip” turned into was Mason locking in on one guy and it was often done blindly out of play action. DGD but I don’t have confidence that Mason had the ability to take advantage of what Winston had/has. It’s easy to say we didn’t throw more because of our running game but I haven’t forgotten who our OC is. He’s always made sure to remind us, with his play calling, that he was a UGA QB at one time.

I don’t know guys. A threat like that is like pulling a loaded gun. Don’t pull it out unless you intend to use it. We might just get our bluff called. I hope I am not too politically incorrect by using a gun metaphor. Please don’t call the thought police SWAT team on me…

Late in the game I thought it was interesting how Fisher adjusted his playcalling to make sure gtu used all their timeouts. FSU had problems scoring TDs and had to settle for FGs – a situation that looked quite familiar.
Fisher did a solid job working the plays, clock, and timeouts, in what easily could have been a loss.

Gtu came from behind a few times this year when the opposing coach made poor late game decisions. Good strategic moves late in games can help secure a win – who’d a thunk it!

Since ’92 FSU has 15 ACC titles.
Cameron irving out of Colquitt County High School owned the LOS and his gaps. Not good enough for UGA. 3 year starter for the Noles.
Cook and Chubb are the best 2 RBs in the country.
FSU’s secondary figured out how to play the edge and pitch. Our depleted secondary never did.
FSU’s O line was bigger, quicker, and more physical against Tech than Dawgs were. But then again Dawgs O line across the front does not compare to FSU. Probably a reason FSU is playing for a national title again, on a long win streak, and another conference title.
But remember CMR never thinks O lines are that important.
Coaching and recruiting players counts. Where is CMR’s dream team?
Coaching is important. That is why CMR has family members on his sidelines. Needs to let his assistants bring their family members to the sidelines.

Always enjoy reading your stream of consciousness, but I’m not sure you were watching the same game as everyone else. FSU’s entire defense got absolutely dominated by Tech in what amounted to a shootout of a game. FSU barely won. We barely lost. The gap isn’t as wide as you think, if there is one at all.

Lighten up Francis. UGA’s inept defense held Tech to 24 points in regulation, 30 overall. FSU’s awesome defense held Tech to 35 points. But don’t let the math get in the way of your ranting.

What game was being watched here? The NATS’s O line made Swiss cheese out of FSU’s D line and the stats verified that. If anyone is comparing moments late in that game to late moments in our game, the stretch doesn’t match the analogy. That was the same squad that played us and they did the same thing to FSU as they did to us.

At some time we should give the Devil his due. FSU’s lack of D almost cost them the game against the NATS and against us, it did.

Interesting to note that in Total O and Scoring O FSU are ranked right next to each other. FSU and Tech flipped places at Total Passing and Total Rushing at 1 and 2 each. In Total D both are neck but in Scoring D FSU is a couple places ahead of Tech.
Close game. Passing game beat the run game?
