The SEC has helpfully published a list of all the relevant dates for each conference school’s spring practice schedule here. Georgia is one of the later starters (darn it!), but also one of the earlier finishers, so the schedule appears more compact than most.
Texas A&M started spring practice yesterday and you can read a preview here. John Chavis is obviously the big news.
And Ole Miss starts today. I don’t know about you, but I can’t wait to see how the Chad Kelly (“who will wear Eli Manning’s No. 10, a bold choice”) story plays out.
Thoughts?

Did you mean “flame out”?

Fixed that for you, Coach Freeze.

It would be interesting to know why Georgia has the shortest spring practice period in the SEC.
Fear of injuries?
Money-saving measure?
Undersigning – less time needed to make roster management decisions?
Academics?
The Georgia Way?
Other?
All of the above?
Anyone know or want to take a guess?

At B-M it’s always about the $$. That’s my guess.

It will be the same amount of practices (I think 15). As an example Bama has 11 more days from start to finish to conduct their 15 practices. Is it a negative thing to have your 15 practices in a shorter span of time? Just asking.

I think they all get the same amount of practice time…do you know for a fact that UGA practices less? Or just does it just fit your little rant?

Actually, UGA is probably the only school that has additional practices after the spring game. Unlike most schools, the spring game is not our last practice. I guess our coaches see some value in having practices to implement critiques of what happened in the game.

This makes sense. Thanks!

I didn’t know that. I like that! Great idea!

I’ll guess, B.J.. Maybe our S&C program has them ready for sustained practices such that they won’t need further conditioning ramping during Spring Practice. That would be somewhat new for us and our team mindset may have advanced accordingly. Practicing after G-Day may mean we get a “hitter game” instead of “thud”.

Can we retire the undersigning meme already? We’re over 85 players at this point, iirc.

Honestly, the basketball team and their potential NCAA bid is much more interesting to me than SEC Spring football practices of all the teams…

Fair enough….keep up the good work..that A&M practice schedule probably gave a few here the tingles.

Will you watch the game against KY tonight? I’m just trying to get a good idea of exactly how apathetic you are toward the basketball program. 😉

I’ve attended about a half dozen home games this season. And I’ll be watching tonight.

I get that this is a football centric blog…and a very good one at that. Dawgs will have their hands full tonight for sure.

The fact you have taken the time to drive to athens and watch a single game shows you care more about our basketball team than probably 50% of our fans….me included.

It was a blast…until we started missing those front-ends.

Last night reminded me why I quit watching UGA basketball for the most part. That was exciting until the last 4 minutes, then…ugggghhhh. And noticed on the screen crawl that we’ve signed Fox for 2 more years. I won’t be fooled again.

McFrugal could have intervened here to get the Spring Game the weekend after Masters’ Saturday. As big as UGA football is, this is one of the premiere sporting events in the world….and Georgia is its home too.
I like the idea of practices after the game though, great time to teach from the game film. Still would prefer an offense versus defense game like UT does it. Gives us a chance to see 1s against ones, and 2s against 2s. Current format attempts to make it a real game like contest but scrimmages are just that, an offense running plays against a defense. Splitting the talent that finely isn’t as interesting as seeing CBS play all of his pieces against CJP’s crew.
