BREAKING: Steve Spurrier thinks Mark Bradley is a Georgia homer.

If I understand things correctly, Steve Spurrier called a presser on short notice today because… well, because of this:

Jesus, dude, you’re losing it.

Now you’re really losing it.

If Spurrier gets a little cocky when he thinks he’s got a good team going into the season, what the hell does today indicate?

UPDATE:  If you’re interested, here’s the piece that set the OBC off.

Bradley’s philosophy-Don’t let the facts get in the way of a good story.

He was visibly angry. It’s similar to when he showed his butt while kicking State reporter Ron Morris out of the press conference. It looks as if something somebody said got back to him, he blew his visor, and he called a press conference to have a public tantrum. Not the way a leader handles things.
How does a leader handle things? Well, if they’re talkin’ bad about you on the recruiting trail–for one thing, welcome to Big Boy Land–but for another, you handle it by working hard on the recruiting trail. That’s where your problem is. You don’t do it by tattling on your “enemies” to reporters. Problem is, Spurrier doesn’t want to work harder in recruiting. If he did, he would have been in his office the two times Nick Chubb visited his school and wanted to meet him. The issue isn’t that his “enemies” are getting his recruits by talkin’ bad about him; it’s that they’re doing it by outworking him.
Bitching about reporters TO reporters is not a workable strategy.
Talking about “enemies” is pretty dang juvenile. Paranoia strikes deep.
Talking about what he did at Florida twenty years ago just underlines what he hasn’t done at South Carolina. That’s not a workable strategy either.
This might have something to do with Butch Jones, a known negative recruiter. At the beginning, Steve made reference to people who “think their 7-6 is better than ours.” SC goes head to head with UT for a lot of prospects, so that’s a tip-off. Of course, he proceeded to talk about Georgia, but that’s just par for the course in his obsessive mind. Even if UT is gigging him, it’s still all about Georgia. All his enemies are Georgia, really.
Attila the Hun could neither read nor write. You could look it up. But the attributed line about “trying to throw discouragement in your path” doesn’t sound much like hun talk to me.
How are they taking this in chicken land? Not surprisingly, they are FIRED UP. This means, of course, that Spurrier is confident he has a great team. Whatever Steve says year in, year out, they believe that means he has a great team.
They say never let them see you sweat. This was a full scale hissy fit, one in a long history of full scale hissy fits Spurrier has had. He doesn’t charm the media so much anymore. Not since he strong-armed Ron Morris, one of their own. This one isn’t going to go well for him. He’ll be talked about for all the wrong reasons.
Is this going to make his “enemies” stop talkin’ bad about him? You answer that one. And shouldn’t Steve Spurrier, who can dish it out, have thicker skin? You answer that one too.

The above post was numbered one to nine. When cut and pasted, the numbers vanished. Oh well.

      • Great comment above. I think a lot of this vitriol from Spurrier comes from his fear/ignorance of his own limitations. I have come to respect and appreciate Spurrier more and more over the years because he clearly has a unique set of skills and style that have, unfortunately, been used against an institution I hold dear. With that said he was blessed with physical and mental talents, that were extraordinary, which have allowed him to accomplish things that no other person really ever has or probably ever will again (Heisman, Natty, Coach a Heisman winner, SEC Program turnaround x2). Nobody gets to be good at everything and he’s obviously a poor loser. While that probably contributed to his successes these childish reactions make him look very small to the everyman because most of us have to deal with failures that we cannot “talent” our way out of. As great as it sounds to take it easy during the off-season and go to the beach you don’t necessarily prepare yourself for the hard times when being better/smarter than everybody won’t bail you out at the moment of truth. It’s like the quote about finding out what kind of man you are by seeing how high you bounce after hitting rock bottom. Spurrier is a legend but not much if a bouncer.

It ain’t paranoia when you know they’re out to get you and that will always be a certainty with the Dawgs.

If Bradley had been a UGA man he would have told him : “Eat shit and die!”.

+52…the number of points I hope we put on the Cocks after a late Morgan FG to push it over half a hundie.

        • No, I want Nick Chubb to throw a halfback pass in the Dead Cockroach to do that. I want people throwing spit cups at Evil Richt as he runs off the field. To rub salt in the wound, I want a 2 point conversion with 30 seconds on the clock to make it 53. I want CMR to say the 2 point conversion was for his friend, Ray Goff, in his post-game presser.

          I’m not bitter …

As long as we’re daydreaming about this stuff, I want to see us drop 70 on them. Then Evil Richt says after the game “70 is the new 50, right Steve?”

  2. The last time he pitched a fit he got his way. He’ll probably be enabled once again.
As much as an ass as he’s been I’d rather see him leave before he’s forced out. I’m not sure he realizes he’s not winning an sec title. Should have won the east, declared victory and gone to the beach.

Bradley needs to get back to trolling the Georgia Bulldogs.

Just ask Ron Morris what happens when you try to troll South Carolina.

7-6 doesn’t allow you to call for the firing of sports writers. As UT and UF crawl out of the muck they will step on The visors head on the way up. He didn’t like to recruit when he was in his 40s. I can only imagine what it’s like now. The OBC is on his way out. The question is how far down and out is he going to take south carolinas base. They can’t reliad as dad as UF.

  7. Some of the comments on that piece … Mark Bradley is a UGA homer. The AJC slants its coverage to favor UGA.

Those made me laugh. I guess those people have never actually been outside of the Palmetto State.

Not only is Spurrier’s team on the descent, but so is he. i guess his old age (70) is starting to take it’s toll. I think this will be his last year.

The OBS is starting to crack…this year’s game will be the most Georgia ever scored on the Cocks and the least number of points Spurrier ever managed betwixt the hedges.
But it was a fun run . I’ll miss him when goes. Colorful coach.

    • I want us to punish SOS in Sanford. I’ll never forget 1995. Richt will never do it because he seems to have a level of respect for Darth Visor from his F$U days and from the way he reached out to CMR after they found out about Katharyn’s illness.

I was hoping I would get to see Spurrier hang around long enough to make a mockery of himself and I’ll be damned if I don’t see it happening before my very eyes. I hope we e,Barry’s him this year and I hope he goes 7-6 again. The Old Ball Sack should have hung it up after Lattimore was gone. The old jackass thought he was going to win the SEC at S.C. Lol. This is a great day.

  15. He is… I repeat… a petulant man/child who should do two things learn to STFU and get his facts straight because if Bradley is a friend of the Dawgs we are in deep horse hockey. I think Bill Stanfill did brain damage to the old ball sack. Avoid the rush hate Spurrier early. It is better to remain silent and thought an old fool than to open ones mouth and remove all doubt.

I have said it before, he is done. Once respected, and deservedly so, he has stayed too long and now has become a whiner and lost control of his program by tolerating bad behavior and allowing top talent to make a public fool out of him (Clowney especially.) I heard national shows making fun of his comments today and basically said, “put up and win or shut up and hit the road.” Get off your knees old friend, this is a sad way to go out.

    • Mac, I’m convinced he took the USCe job to show Jeremy Foley and Jort Nation he could do it again. Take a program with great fan support but no real championship tradition and win a conference title. Now that it likely won’t happen, he’s a bitter shell of his former self. Sorry, Steve, but I’m not going to cry for you and your plight. Go hang out on your boat, drink Coors Light and get your picture taken with adoring Gator fans with your shirt off.

  17. If you examine what happened at SC under SOS you’ll realize that e only had 3 good years there. The rest were seasons with slightly winning records like 7-6. That really has been the norm for Spurrier in Columbia.

Lattimore and Clowney were his “Herschel” but he couldn’t finish the deal. He has now lost that momentum opportunity and it is downhill for him and SC. Couldn’t happen to a nicer bunch.

I gotta say here, Spurrier trying to convince himself Bradley is a Georgia homer looks very much like an indication of early onset. Much as I dislike the Whiney Spurrier, I wouldn’t wish that on anybody.

OTOH…I got this pitcher of Steve, back in his office after the press conference, giggling to himself…”Ha, ha, Bradley…that’ll get him stirred up in Athens…ha, ha, ha.”
