Boink!

I’m not going to argue it’s a sign that the Alabama dynasty under Saban is over, but what does it say about a program that in losing gives up two signature plays of the year in the last couple of seasons?

Mark Schlabach is already referring to that play as the “Tip Six”.

I’m guessing the next Saban presser isn’t going to be a mellow affair.  Or Monday’s Finebaum show.

I was listening on the radio on the way home last night, and the Westwood One crew did not do this play justice at all. This is so much more incredible than The Prayer at Jordan-Hare … man, that’s a kick in the nuts. Rammer Jammer, indeed.

  2. The fact it took this play and five turn overs for bama to lose scares me.

Ole Miss does not have that great of an offense. They did just like Tech and racked up yards on high school teams. Then when they had to show up, did not really. I am not saying they have a bad offense, but if you get 5 turn overs and require prayer plays to score 42 points you are not exactly an offensive juggernaut.

The upside for us is that this loss will be in Bama’s head. This loss was on them and they will be playing tight trying not to replicate the TOs.

I don’t think you can say much about that or read much in to it at all, other than it’s lucky as hell. We had a lot of discussion on this blog a few years ago and the “bounces” of the ball not going your way. That’s football. Even Saban is not immune.

I’ve mentioned before that I am married to Bama Nation. I can’t adequately describe the angst today. It’s “us” times a thousand. ISIS marching on Washington wouldn’t get noticed today in Alabama.

How do you turn the ball over 5 times, give up two fluke TDs, and still have the ball at the end with a shot to win?

Yeah, so pretty clear Bama is the better team with -5 turnover, two fluke TDs, and still only losing by 6. No disrespect to ole miss, who capitalized and won, but this makes the game in two weeks only rougher as they now can’t lose again, but are every bit as good as any other team out there. Should be a good one.

I still have respect for Bama but those turnovers helped make them not the best team last night. It wasn’t some other team out there turning the ball over, not handling the hail mary, etc. Bama v Georgia will belong to whichever the best version of each team shows up that day – they’re both pretty good, and Ole Miss may be legitimately better than either.

I don’t see Ole Miss being legitimately better. It took five turnovers and a crazy fluke play for them to beat Bama by one score.

Why are the turnovers not indicative of Bama’s quality?!? Last time I checked, they count the points thst come from turnovers just like every other score. Would Ole Miss be just as good in your estimation if they’d had a 5 turnover day? Would Georgia?

Although, in fairness, I agree with your underlying premise that Bama is a better team than those turnovers suggested. At least, I think they are.

On the flip side, that bounce Bama got on the inside kick that went 20 yards their way off the tip was very fortunate as well. Kiffikins stupid play calling cost them a chance to win. Why throw a bomb with almost 2:00 minutes left puts the ball back in the Bears’ hands with time to go either way.

Pretty clear Bama spit the bit at home. I hate it for them. I see them lose at least 2-3 more. Kiffin will figure out a way…

  7. Bottom line is Ole Miss made plays when it came time to make plays; we didn’t.

On a side note: Who is the genius scheduling games that finish after 1 a.m. eastern time? Are the WWL gurus trying to put these games into prime time for our Alaska friends?

And no decent SEC V SEC game on at noon or1pm. When I am at my laziest, I could just about watch football from noon to midnight, do not get why KY-FL couldn’t kickoff at noon. Also true week to week, some weekends last year had really no interesting league games, but yesterday did not have time to watch them all. I am sure there are conpeting interests and it is difficult to figure out….but….computers and all.

  8. From what I saw of the game last night, the rebel bears were playing loose and were not afraid to take chances. When you get that combo, sometimes the ball boinks in the right direction

Agreed. The Akbars are a good team but they got a lot of help.

That’s a pretty good observation, Twisti…I was trying to put my finger on that and you said it. Alabama was playing uptight and not loose..they looked tentative..while Ole’ Miss was loose as a goose..that made the difference.
If they played again tomorrow, I’d take Bama and the spread, though. It looked like a perfect storm on ‘Bama last night.
I didnt care who won..but thinking about it now, it encourages Georgia and it also encorages ‘Bama…they know if they don’t make mistakes they’re almost unbeatable.

      • I’m trying not to transfer any Alabama takeaways from that game to ours. I just don’t want to think of it as an Alabama “lessons learned, now we are not going to screw up” kind of game. I’m just hoping that chink in their armor undermines their confidence.

If they don’t make mistakes they are almost unbeatable. But they will make mistakes and they aren’t unbeatable. We beat Bammer. Watch and see.
