“We don’t want what happened last year to happen this year.”

The bye week.  The one time all season when it’s okay to look ahead to next week’s game.

Georgia and Florida both are on bye weeks and have an equal amount of time to prepare. For Georgia, this week has been focused on cleaning up mistakes made so far. The Bulldogs have done some work preparing for Florida, but that won’t start in full force until Sunday, after the players return from a three-day break.

Georgia is 5-2 and will be back in control of its quest for an SEC East title if Alabama defeats Tennessee on Saturday. If the Volunteers do get a third conference loss, Georgia can take the division by winning the remainder of its conference games.

While the players, at least to some degree, will pay attention to the Alabama-Tennessee game, their primary focus is already on Florida.

Good for them.  All I can say in response for today is Roll, Tide.

I don’t see TN winning, or staying within 10 points of Bama at home, but if they should pull the upset, it will deflate our guys for next week. We need that extra motivation,, but we should have enough reasons without it.

    • Mac, if anything deflates these guys before Florida, shame on the entire program. Regardless of the records, our team should consider this as the most important game of the year and play in this game like their hair is on fire.

I agree with you. No way Tennessee stays within 17 of the Tide.

I don’t understand anyone working 300 days a year to play 13-14 games EVER taking a snap at less than 100%, in any game, but that is not the reality. Players are distracted my a myriad of things, from the trivial to serious problems. The cumulative effect can cause just a couple of key guys to get caught unfocused one a few plays to make a difference. May not be excusable but it happens on every team at points throughout the season.

I think Gurley not returning for FU last year hurt, even though we were good enough without him to beat the Gators. I think Arky choking on Friday after Thanksgiving last season made a difference in the GT loss. So yeah, removing an incentive that they have looked forward to all season from next week’s game is a factor. Doesn’t mean we will lose in JAX if TN does win, or that would be a good excuse, but it is a factor that cannot be helpful. I want all the chips we can get.

TN really wanted that game more than Bama. I had begin to feel they were the real deal with a bad week against the Rebels but they got shoved around all day. Been a crazy year, even worse than last season. Every week there are results that seem to make no sense, guess that is why I like this sport so much.

Bama should handle Tenn but even if the Vols pull the upset they could still lose to somebody else. Surely Georgia won’t be deflated for any reason vs. the Gators.

If TN upsets Bama, then win out, the rest of the season becomes meaningless for SEC East teams.

Gotta give fl some credit, they’ve shown themselves up to the task thru a pretty tough schedule – ut, ole miss, ky, mizzou, and gave lsu all they could handle – on the road and with their starting QB out. Mcelwain has been able to keep his team steady and focused.

We better have our ship together in JAX. Unfortunately, having our ship together is more a hope than an expectation. It’ll be huge if we win and end up taking the sec east title. CMR would be able to wag his finger in a lot of naysayer’s faces.

In United States history, a carpetbagger was a Northerner who moved to the South after the American Civil War.

The term is also applied to a Northerner who moves to a southern city and, after living in the South for a period of time, becomes a fan of the local college football team, while still identifying himself as a Northerner on one of the blogs devoted to the local college football team.

I’d love it if we backed into an Eastern division crown. You know why? Because it would mean that we’d ruined Florida’s season again, and put the final coffin nails into Auburn, and there ain’t a got-DAMN thing wrong with that. Would I trade wins over Florida and Auburn (and throw Tech in there while you’re at it, just for the hell of it) for another ass-kicking by Alabama? You damn right I would. Because every time one of those sorry Gator, Tiger, or Tech sons of bitches opened their mouths, I could tell them, “Well, we beat YOUR ass, and we own the series, too. He hasn’t thrown an interception and he’s seventh in TD throws, which is what has him second in the SEC in passer rating. But even with that, he’s only four points ahead of Lambert.

If that’s a picture of coming around, then the SEC is loaded at the QB position.

So now it’s okay again to give the QB major credit for wins? I thought that went out with Aaron Murray.

If that’s all it takes to judge, then Lambert, at 5-2, is above average.

Isn’t winning what all qb’s are judged by? Is that not the only Stat that matters? He was a good guy and threw for 400+ yards but they lost the game by 3 points. What will they remember not the 400+ yards but the loss.

And again, Georgia is 5-2 right now. How great does that make Lambert in your eyes? I thought so.

How much LSU football have you watched this season? How many games have they needed Harris to win for them? (Hint: check out those attempts per game numbers.)

To be honest a lot of the LSU folks down here still think Harris is not very good. I think they are wrong.

Get ready, Bluto. If you didn’t watch Jacob Eason on natl tv Fri nite, you missed a year’s worth of future inane QB comments.

Jacob was in the high 60s in completions, less than his above 70s ave: he threw high on a couple of receivers; threw behind one receiver going left to right in front of him(of course, if he had led him perfectly, it would have been an interception) plus several other imperfect QB mistakes, including intentional grounding. Nevermind that his team won 60-something to less than 20; that he threw 5-6 td passes on top of all the other completions; his td passes were barely over the heads of the triple pursuit on receivers, but the ball fell perfectly into the receiver’s hands; he gets rid of the ball quickly and is accurate doing so and he made the correct decisions all night. Still, he wasn’t perfect and that’s troll/negative-nabobs ammo for the entire season next year if he isn’t redshirted.

Seriously, he has a commanding presence and seems to have bonded with all teammates judging by his bench presence when the D was on the field. I laughed at every imperfection and thought that he would root Murray out of the top of the Fan’s Stupid Judgments Contest. ‘Course it isn’t the calm QB in Jacob that will see the SEC in full force here, but we have a substantial strong and accurate arm coming next year that will get great coaching for his yearly improvements.

You should have seen the kudos for UGA’s football and academic program plus the fans sporting the “G” here and there. Georgia visitors have shown up with some frequency to the Lake Stevens games including a photo of two young kids in UGA helmets posed and hugged on each side of Jacob and that was shown on natl tv several times.

Jacob and Georgia are both a big deal out there and are connected at the hip. It didn’t hurt that the camera was on Schotty on the sidelines several times and the announcer spoke as if Jacob is headed for the best program in the nation.

It was a great advertisement of UGA’s program to the nation Friday night.

Murray had the intangible by being able to put the team on his back to get the win. AM was a good QB and was a coach on the field something that is now lacking. I don’t understand how anyone could figure we SHOULD win against Florida. We don’t have an SEC caliber quarterback. Their backup is better than our first stringer. Their defense is better than ours, and so is their offense now that we’ve lost Chubb. They are more physical, they have better special teams, and right now, they’ve got better coaching. It’s going to be very hard for us to win, and frankly, I’m not optimistic that we keep it close. We got badly fooled by the South Carolina game. This isn’t a very good Georgia team.

And thank goodness I don’t take comments seriously from someone who posts as his genitals. At this point, I’m beginning to think that “dick” is a little more appropriate than “cojones.” Nevertheless, I’ll try to flesh the evaluation out a little.

I define “SEC caliber quarterback” as a QB that can take the team on his shoulders and be the main reason why we defeat a good SEC team. See Aaron Murray in the 2013 SCjr and LSU games. Frankly, I don’t expect him to be one. He’s only had fall practice and the season to learn a new offense. If he was so good that he could do that, he would have gone from Virginia to the pros instead of here. He hasn’t done badly under the circumstances – but that’s different from being someone to depend on. I actually think he’s going to be a lot better after a spring practice under Schottenheimer and Richt; he’s got great height, good arm strength, seems to be a pretty good leader, and appears to want to be good pretty badly. But for next week, I don’t see him as a tremendous strength.

I think their defense is better than ours mainly because of the secondary, and because it appears that Lorenzo Carter either isn’t full speed or he’s in the doghouse. Hopefully a week off can get him back to being a major contributor. The secondary is still feeling the effects of the mass exodus to Auburn and Louisville, and our best defensive back is going to be suspended for the first half because of a b.s. targeting penalty. So you have to think that Florida has an edge on defense.

Right now, their offense is better than ours without Chubb. They put up 21 points on Missouri and 28 on LSU. It’s been demonstrated we’re not capable of the former and I doubt we’re capable of the latter. Again, an off week may make a difference. Getting Michel to full strength will. Our offensive difficulties against UT (10 points from the offense) could fairly be attributed to losing Chubb and the difficulties against Missouri could be attributed to Missouri having a good D and conservative coaching, so maybe things will change in Jacksonville. Perhaps we will see an offensive explosion against Florida. I wouldn’t bet the house on it.

As far as coaching goes, McElwain has Florida playing better than anyone expected. I don’t think anyone would try to make the case that we’re playing better than expected. Therefore, I’d give them the edge in coaching. And finally, we did get fooled by the South Carolina game. Lambert was brilliant. So was the playcalling. I’m very glad that we broke Spurrier and made him sulk into retirement, but we haven’t played that well before or since. Richt’s teams get a rap for having 1-2 games a season where everything disappears, but we do usually have at least one game a year where we are ON, uncharacteristically so. Auburn and Missouri last year. Clemson in 2013. Vandy in 2012. I think this year’s is South Carolina, and we can’t take it as an indicator of what our week-in, week-out performance should be. Therefore, unrealistically raised expectations.

Now, do you care to reply coherently, or are you going to just sit back and do another wearisome ad hominem attack where I’m supposed to be someone else’s doppelganger?

Personally, I’d prefer the 1997 model – unexpected physical dominance and fiery intensity. The cliche about “that’s why they play the games” might be a hoary one, but it’s still true.
