Gator scouting report

… is about what you’d expect.  Florida likes to spread the ball around on offense and stay balanced between run and pass.  And the Gators are fast, solid and pretty conventional on defense.

I do wonder about how injuries may affect the game, though.  Georgia seems to be getting almost everyone back – do not underestimate what Christian Payne’s return may mean – while Florida has to deal with this.

Christian Payne back is HUGE IMO. For whatever reason although Quavon has all the measurables…he misses assignments blocks etc…when he does what he is supposed to do, he is devastating. Payne is dependent and effective. Think about this; I think our OL got used to blocking for TGII and NC, two backs whose running styles got them yards without clean blocking…SM and KM aren’t like that and need clean running lanes. Payne gives them that extra dependable blocker. I think it will pay off. Now we need to run for 200 yards…

KM can only gain yards if Schotty actually puts him on the field…

KM isnt going to be gaining any yards as the 3rd string back. Douglas is the new #2.

Yeah, not sure how the hell that is even possible. I can only assume that Schotty is obsessed with running up the gut, which KM is not as effective at. However, KM has to be better on the edges and as a pass catching back. Seems to me that KM is a better sub for SM compared to just bringing Douglas in and basically telling the D that it is either play action or going up the gut. (see the horrible 3rd down toss call for how awesome douglas is on the edge).

The ideas that Christian Payne’s return is somehow going to make a big difference is ridiculous…as is the myth that Hicks is some sort of bumbling idiot who doesn’t know who to block…watch him this year and show me where his so called missed assignments and blocks have cost us,,,what I’ve seen is a player who destroys LBs and should be on the field more…hell, CBS doesn’t even utilize the Fullback…even one who has averaged 9 yards per touch during his career…he’s been Tripped so to speak

you’re right. nothing should give us hope right now. there is nothing that can make a difference. there is only despair. Only the inevitable loss to the gators. why even bother going down there.

Watch the 4th and 1 early in the Missouri game when we lined up Hicks and (I believe) a TE in the backfield with Sony. Huge power to one side, and both blockers went for the same guy, leaving the linebacker free to stuff the play behind the line. Not sure who’s fault it was, but it was absolutely a mistake to leave a LB unblocked.

That said, I’d love to see more of Hicks rumbling down the field on a short pass or a quick handoff up the middle. He’s a beast at times.

    • Hicks seems to be the offensive version of Cornelius Washington. He’s the first guy you want the other team to see when you get off the bus but tends to disappear in games. Then he’ll make a play that makes you go “Wow!” Last year he was a downright liability on special teams.

I always liked him on the quick hitter between the center and guard especially when everyone thinks the tailback is getting the ball.

Remember back in the spring when we were so giddy because UF didn’t have enough OL to scrimmage?

I guess fall matters more than spring.

Nah, that’s a result of good coaching, with which we struggle.

    • Then this is the game in which to exploit this deficiency. T.Thompson is coming on and UF has green tackles so if UGa doesn’t muster some serious heat (and possibly create TOs from said heat) I see problems: like TEs roaming free across the middle and 20 yards downfield.

All in all the UF RBs don’t look too scary at all.

Yeah, despite their TEs not being as highly-rated as Rome/Blazevitch, and their OL not being that good, somehow those same TEs get passes to them. (And yes, lack of TE production is #1 or #2 on my big board of “Things I’m disappointed with from Schotty’s first UGA offense so far.”)

    “Florida’s Defense
Key Players: DL Jonathan Bullard, DE Alex McCalister, LB Antonio Morrison, LB Jarrad Davis, CB Vernon Hargreaves III, CB Jalen Tabor”

It’s interesting that only 1 of these players is from the state of Florida…

Nah, no worries. I’m sure Schotty is going to come out firing on all cylinders with a game plan that will completely confound the gators……

Must have been interesting bye week practices. FB must have shown he can handle it, What a place for your opening act! Wonder if the Senator has any stats on players taking (virtually) your first meaningfulsnap since HS 4 years ago? I bet the record is 0-0, which is better than what he showed us for first year starters at UGA. 🙂

Yep. 790 aired a reporter from Gridiron this a.m. that Bauta starts the game.

Correction: heard it on 680. Kudos to the person who posted earlier this week that Bauta was taking 1st team reps.

yeah there seems to only be one source right now so I am treating it as a rumor. I think everyone is still reporting on the gridiron source and no independent verification.

What if it’s just for the first play? Some sort of read-option, Then Lambert comes in and we line up in an ace and go back to what we normally do.

LIkely, it’s to make the Fl. defensive staff shit their pants..They can’t focus as much on stuffing the short stuff that Georgia likes to throw if they are having to practice containing a running QB.
I say..what have we got to lose? A proficient passing attack..doesn’t exist anyway..so even if Faton isn’t the best passer, at least he can run it some..and as I noted in an earlier post, he just may be the type of player that thrives in a game atmosphere…
My bet is that we’re going to see a rotation between Bauta and Lambert and settle in with whatever is working, if indeed anything is.

Evil Richt…he’s just going to dress Lambert as Bauta and vice-versa to fool the gators.

This move, if true, catches me completely off guard. The read option offense takes timing and precision to be successful. Is 2 weeks ample time to get the timing and decision making down? With Bauta’s reported inability to throw the ball downfield, will we not see aneven tighter box to play in with the safeties playing with 8-10 yards of the LOS? This is an extremely bold move by Richt if in fact he pulls this off. On one hand I like the fact that Richt is willing to do whatever it takes to win this game. This says that Richt understands the magnitude of this game. Yet on the other hand I worry that that there is a huge chance that this completely blows up in a face and we see a 17+ point loss. Wow! This game just got way more interesting!

Doesn’t mean he will be running the read-option like GT does. It just means there could be some scrambling, boot-legs or QB draws that we haven’t seen with Lambert…plus maybe a play or two drawn up for this game. It should keep the FL db’s a little looser on the recievers. If Bauta is one of those guys that just shines in a big-game, we’ll know it soon enough and it might spark the whole team to play on that higher level.

Doesn’t it? Why else would you play a guy with little to no game experience in the biggest game of the 2016 season? If Bauta starts, and I still have my doubts, he will start for his ability to run the Run-Pass-Option package. If not, why not stick with Ramsey or Lambert. Both throw the ball better than Bauta is reported to throw the ball. Bauta’s one and only strength is his ability to run the ball…according to the scouting reports we have. Again, I am completely struck by this news. Richt is certainly pulling out all of the stops here.
