“We’re not blind to the facts,” [Kolton] Houston said. “We haven’t been playing very good recently. The definition of insanity is doing the same thing and expecting a different result so we’ll try to get something new going.”

Wouldn’t the definition of insanity include keeping Mark Richt year after year after year after year after…?

I’m starting to think that the complainers are just trying to ensure that their bellyaching will continue. After all unhappy people are only happy when they are unhappy.

You sound unhappy that people are unhappy. Turn that frown upside down, Dericht, and for goodness sake, can the Senator itch his behind without hitting you in the face? By the way, question for you, if a coach naps during every practice and coaches on game day from his house, does it make a difference? I’ll hang up and listen to your answer.

It actually makes me very happy to make fun of stupid people. If everyone I encountered were thoughtful and intelligent I would lose my favorite hobby and then I would be sad. Fortunately, I always seem to find myself in a target-rich environment. Even when things are going well there’s always someone being a moron. Always. What can I say, but its a dumb world and I’m happy guy!

People like ChubbyMan should wear signs. That way I would know never to ask them how they’ve been doing.

If you graduated in 1979, it might just be that you need a sign because your memory is failing. Poor Chubbyman. He just asked a question. That doesn’t mean he’s unhappy or not insightful.

I was wondering if I was the only one. It seems to be some Georgia folks’ “go to” phrase and is used incessantly.

That and “the Georgia Way”, which has been overused to the point of being meaningless. The phrase as originally coined by the Senator meant something specific. Now its being used as a catch phrase to describe any remotely bad experience.

“I saw my wife’s new boyfriend last night, and he was wearing my brand new shoes.”
“Well, you know, the Georgia Way.”

Better than “working hard to get butter” or “I’ve waited 55 years…” though.

    Selected S&P+ Ratings:

    #14 West Virginia (5-4)
    #19 N.C. State (6-4)
    #25 Washington (4-6)
    #39 Georgia (7-3)
    #40 GA Southern (7-2)

I don’t really give these rankings much thought.

Other take away is that Southern played two teams ranked above 90 or so (and most were 100 or worse). And lost to both, in “it wasn’t close” fashion.
They’re still very good at beating the worst teams in FBS, but they’re not quite at the level they were last year where they could play with mid- and top-level teams that weren’t Navy.

I think Richt knows he’s playing for his job here. If we lose to Tech next week, it certainly wouldn’t strengthen his position, but if we lose to Southern? I think he’ll lose his job over it.

The assumption Richt is “playing for his job” is interesting. I guess the thought crosses his mind, but my take on Richt is that he is much more concerned with the object in front of him…beating Southern…than keeping his job.

Besides, Richt probably knows the AD is already in discussions with:….(fill in the blank)

Richt doesn’t even need a contract. BM makes an offer and CMR says: ‘Send something over and I’ll look at it when I get around to it. But keep the checks coming no matter what happens’.

Not demanding pay raises every time a job opens helps make him the most job-secure coach bar none (except for Nick and the new guy at Florida) in the league if not P5 America as we know it 🙂

Big boss man lays out the plans and hands out colorful nsfw aiights aimed at each of the participants, leading to some silent complaints about the method and manner in which those aiights were handed out. Screen legend Nick Saban seems cantankerous yet still potentially capable of kicking all these guys’ asses at the same time. It’s Nick’s way or the highway, and for the character, it’s this scene or nothing except watching the ducks shit in his yard.

I remember going into a game with David Greene at QB vs. UAB where they showed up running a T-formation and ran it down our throats vs. BVG. I think we won by a FG. I think it was 16-13 and had they not tried to throw on their last drive we may have had to go to OT. I don’t remember if that was ’03 or ’04 but we were a helluva lot better that year than this year. Can’t look past anybody and an unconventional team that can run is always dangerous. I’d rather play some Mike Leach or June Jones team trying that Mickey Mouse passing offense than to have a running team that knows what they are doing running the ball showing up any day. Running a passing offense with mediocre talent vs. better talent is hard. Running the ball with lesser talent is a little easier. Over time the Techs and the Navies of the world match up a lot better vs. superior opponents.

It was ’03. Worst Oline we’d had pass-blocking wise ever under Richt. Lost to a bad Zook UF team by that same 16-13 score we’d won vs UAB the week before.
(And the oline might not have been that bad, but it feels like half the sacks that year were the result of playing LSU twice.)

That team won the East and struggled to beat UAB. Can’t take any opponents lightly in football. When they have a good offense and you don’t, things can get downright scary.

About the first lsu game I still can’t believe we kicked it to devery Henderson after we scored on the long screen play with Tyson Browning. If we had snuck out of there with a win lsu doesn’t win the west. We would have gotten ole miss instead.

  5. GSU is capable & could win this game; But, playing between the Hedges
& If the Dawgs can avoid the turnovers, they can & will win this game.
I am still looking at another 10 win season & Richt not being let go.

I’m pretty sure Richt cares as much about this game as any other. The key will be for him to make sure his players feel the same way.

Not sure, but one of our problems in this ranking could be that the best team we have beaten, Auburn, ranks 55. That is our signature victory. That fact, plus an offense that may or may not show up, leads to a credibility problem.

I like Wunderlic’s big 5 if similar sos but it doesn’t factor in strength of schedule. Also, GaSthrn is a beast on Special Teams, which Wunderlic doesn’t consider to be a big 5. Their offense and special teams look better than ours. Defense goes to us. SOS goes to us.

This year, GaSthrn is all about turnovers. -7 to in 2 losses, +10 in 7 wins. Us too for the most part, we are -6 in 3 losses, +5 in 7 wins.

    Some random thoughts,

    UGA will bitchslap GSU.
CMR will be Georgia’s coach even if he loses these next 2 games.
Some people/fans will complain no matter the situation, it’s what they live for.
Georgia fans have more than their share of these unhappy people.

  10. No matter what the rankings or the statistics say. A loss to GSU would be worse than the Game That Shall Not Be Named in Memphis. We need to go into Saturday night with the intent of making a point to the Eagles that they never want to come back to Athens. I don’t know if we have the horses to do that this year, but any loss would be catastrophic.

West Virginia shut them out. We have to be better on defense than the Mountaineers. If our passing game can’t light them up like USCe, then shame on us.

The WVA game was outlier…GSU had key players out…don’t keep thinking that game means something, because it doesn’t.

      • Macallanlover

Well, it means something, The QB was out but the 44 for WVA is pretty telling. They don’t have the offensive line to run effectively enough to win this game, and that is acknowledging that Brieda is a solid RB and will get some yards. We will beat GSU….but we will certainly get their best shot.

      • The Eagles have played two legitimate opponents and been beaten soundly by both (WVU and App State). We should run their @$$e$ all the way back to Statesboro if we play like we’re interested and don’t lose the turnover margin.

If we lose on Saturday night, I will officially be off the CMR bandwagon. I’m a fan of his and have been a supporter through the dark days of 2010. A loss to GSU changes everything …

Fine. Our defense should still be better than App St’s.
And if we can’t get a passing game going vs. a bunch of 5’9 DBs, we should just sit Lambert and run option stuff with Michel/Godwin the rest of the season.

  11. I’m not sure exactly which metric they were going by, but on SportsTalk up here this morning they said that Ga Southern will be the highest ranked offense we have played this season – I think they said Ga Southern was currently the 39th best offense in the country.

Granted, who they play has a big part in there. But still, I expect us to give up some points on Saturday, especially in the first half. Then hopefully we settle down as the game goes on.
