This is from TMZ, so take it with a grain of salt, I guess (at least until it’s picked up elsewhere), but it’s both unsurprising and amusing.
Ole Miss football coach Hugh Freeze says he does NOT want to testify in the Laremy Tunsil domestic violence civil case … citing concerns that his testimony might be used in an NCAA investigation…
The stepdad now wants to depose Laremy’s college football coach Hugh Freeze — believing he has information that will help prove his story.
But Freeze doesn’t want that to happen — and has filed court docs to block the deposition — in part because “at this time, the NCAA is considering allegations against the University and its football program, including allegations related to [Tunsil].”
He does not expand on the allegations.
Freeze says he’s concerned that any information from the deposition could be accessed by NCAA investigators and possibly used against him … and he doesn’t believe that’s fair.
If the judge DOES force Freeze to testify, he at least wants the transcripts sealed to prevent the NCAA from getting their hands on it.
This is not a good look for you, man.

UPDATE: You can toss that grain of salt now.

UPDATE #2: More here.
I don’t want to testify in this murder case your honor as my wife will find out I’m a serial adulterer. It’s the ole Gary Condit argument come to the NCAA.

I would think that an actual, real legal proceeding would trump any concerns one party may have over non-legal violations in another organization.
To mirror Freeze-Out’s comment above…..I would say it’s like requesting that your testimony in a legal proceeding be sealed because it might expose to your homeowners’ association that your privacy fence is too high. I would hope the judge would say tough sh*t.

If God has a sense of humor, then that judge is a Miss St. grad…
Hugh will be wishing he was in Australia eating vegemite with Harbaugh before this is over.

I don’t know about the judge, but Miller’s attorney is a MSU grad.

Wow, McGarity would be telling Kirby to tell the lawyers everything and then would send the deposition to the NCAA as proof that we broke the rules.

Exactly–I love it. I hope this becomes a giant train wreck. Seems like Tunsil’s willing to roll over on Ole Miss anyhow. If buddy spills the beans on the stand about benefits–would it even matter to the NCAA if Freeze is forced to testify or what he says?

Obviously, Ole Miss wants to be Bama on the field but won’t do what Bama does off the field.

I agree but Auburn has been smoldering for years. I don’t have much confidence in a hammer dropping.

Didn’t he say if anyone has incriminating info on his program to spit it out. He wasn’t including himself lol.

I wouldnt hold my breath waiting on Ole Miss to get hammered.
It seems like the bar for nailing one of these schools is so extremely high now that no one is likely to get penalized outside of the georgia way…of you know…telling on yourself and providing the documentation to support it.

I am guessing that Ole Miss (or an Ole Miss booster) just pays the stepfather to make it all go away. They’ve already written plenty of checks to this family…what’s one more?

I have never heard of being able to duck a deposition because it was … uncomfortable. Even when you jave criminal charges pending you usually have to invoke the 5th as it is appropriate, and in the civil case (as opposed to the criminal case) the trier of fact is allowed to draw an inference from the invocation of the 5th.

Later, in what is regarded as the greatest heroic act by a SEC Head Coach out of the arena since Phil Fulmer avoided service of process in Birmingham, Hugh and counsel stand by for a hearing on the motion for protective order.

So you post the link instead of just the photo file. Lemme try this. I think Hugh’s deposition will be more like these samples of integrity:

Going through your post above, try working back and condense by cut and paste until you get to the last entry, below, that is set off by asterisks/quotation marks so it doesn’t post as a .jpg image, which follows.

Freaking hilarious! I love watching that snake oil salesman squirm.
Unfortunately, even if he has to incriminate himself in a deposition, I have zero faith that the NCAA will do something about it.

Yeah. As someone else pointed out, I don’t know that many judges would be impressed by Freeze asking to be allowed to dodge a deposition in a REAL court room so that he can avoid being investigated by a “fake” NCAA court?
