So, we get a BB-gate update in which Rochester and Clay’s attorney Kim Stephens expresses the hope that Rochester and Clay will be allowed to enter a pre-trial diversionary program, which would result in the charges levied against them being purged from their record upon completion.
Somehow, I think we’d be hearing something stronger than hope if you took out the words “Kim Stephens” and substituted “Huntley Johnson” in their stead.

Q: Do you hope that allowing these kids into a diversionary program will teach them a lesson?

The difference is that these two had a “gun” on campus. We all know it wasn’t really a gun but by the definition spelled out in Georgia law, at least as it pertains to weapons on campus, a BB gun is treated as a “gun.” Should we read anything into the fact Ed Tolley isn’t handling the case?

Tolley was mostly handling stuff involving the NCAA. I know he’s done some criminal stuff in the past, but Kim Stephens is every bit as good.

By some accounts, Rochester and Clay were about to become another Harris and Klebold. I went to Georgia in the late 70’s. Back then, what those two did would have gone pretty much unnoticed. I still think it’s much ado about not much. Take their BB-guns away, suspend them for a game, make them pay for the damage, and call it a day. So much sh*t is blown up out proportion these days.

I refuse to answer the phone to the parent of a student who was hit by a BB from a dorm window. I couldn’t sleep at night knowing I could have prevented that nasty welp. #NoPriceTooHighForSafety

How we would know? I ‘spect there are a lot of people with purged records..mostly the influential.
Had I been the cop that went to the call concerning the BB gun, I would have confiscated the air rifle and told them to pick it up at the station and never bring it back on campus. That should have been all that happened. We’ve got people running around blowing up airports, planed, cutting other peoples heads off, blowing up historical sites, mass raping and murdering little girls and boys and we have to waste court time and energy worrying about a friggin BB gun. The world sucks.

I live near a small state University in Maryland and in years past I worked construction on some renovation projects in some of the academic buildings. Talking to some of the maintenance guys at the university they would often talk about all the stuff students tore up in their dorm rooms. Beds destroyed, holes in doors/windows/walls. These two maintenance guys had a full-time job which seemed to involve and awful lot of just fixing stuff that students tore up in their rooms. I don’t remember them talking about cops ever being called.

I’m in the, shall we say, security clearance business. I can’t tell you the amount of times I bring something up to an interviewee and they say, “That was supposed to be purged from my record.”

Yep, purged from your police record but forever in the good ol Red and Black, Internet edition. Just ask my son who got a underage drinking charge and went through the whole expungement process only to be failed by the article in the R&B that refused to take down the article initially reporting the indescretion
