We’ve always got the Big 12.

As much grief as I’ve tossed the SEC’s way this week over the Florida-LSU brouhaha, compared to the farce that is Big 12 expansion, it looks as well run as Apple.

“The 11 reported finalists are, in alphabetical order, Air Force, BYU, UCF, Cincinnati, Colorado State, UConn, Houston, Rice, SMU,South Florida and Tulane.”

They should add 4: UCF, Cinci, Houston and South Florida. All based on recruiting and size.

AF does nothing. BYU gives you a name you know, but no market and Sunday is an issue in all other sports. Colorado St. gives you nothing (except Bobo, but not for much longer). UConn gives you basketball and nothing else. It does not give you a market – New England and NYC Metro does not care at all about college football. Tulane gives you nothing.

Using Apple as a marker for ‘well run’ is slightly faint praise these days. But maybe that’s what you had in mind. 🤔

The Big 12 will dick around until the grant of rights expires in 2021 where Oklahoma and Okie State will come to the SEC. Texas will end up in the B1G and who knows what happens to the rest of them.

  4. Geography is what’s killing the Big 12. It doesn’t make sense to have a conference that stretches from Lubbock to Orlando to Connecticut to Cincinnati.

Texas killed the Big 12 by being whores. When Nebraska and Missouri left, there just aren’t enough viable options in flyover country.

That said, there are rumblings that Nebraska is unhappy in the Big 10, so maybe they would come back.
