The genius takes a hit.

If you think having a dominant B-back is necessary for Paul Johnson’s triple-option offense to work at its best, then this is a big deal.

Star Georgia Tech B-back Dedrick Mills has been dismissed from the Jackets program according to a statement released by the school on Friday afternoon by Sports Information Director Mike Flynn.

Sophomore B-back Dedrick Mills was dismissed from Georgia Tech’s football program on Friday for a violation of Georgia Tech athletics department rules.

Mills ran for 771 yards last season in 9 games and was picked as a preseason All-ACC running back by the media in Charlotte earlier this year.

That should help Auburn’s depth at the position in a couple of years, I would think.

UPDATE:

That seems promising.

I tend to think it’s more about having a competent QB and at least one receiver to give the passing game some teeth. Zach Laskey was hardly anyone’s idea of a great running back, and he did fine in the B-Back role.

I just don’t think who their running backs are is that important. Maybe I’m wrong, but they seem to be relatively interchangeable in the A spots, and I don’t think it’s that hard to find someone who can run a dive play out of the B slot.

Thank you for the post, all things bad for Tech makes my day. It is unhealthy but that is how it is. I swore off going to a Nerd game ever again after last year (and 2014) but the convenience of an ATL game and one fluke Al Ford loss at GF@BDS in 26 years (most amazing stat), I’m back in.

I believe after reading the tech link and the UT link on the tech board, if Tech beats UT, Rocky Top might change to Rocky Bottom.

  8. And somewhere the world’s smallest violin is playing. As much of a hassle being a Georgia fan can be am I the only one who thanks the heavens that we play real football and don’t have to figure out what an effing A-back and B-back are??

    • I should say that I feel bad for the kid but given the Stingtalk elation over Chubb and Gurley getting hurt fuck them. Strange how he’s dismissed but isn’t a thug. Just like their former basketball player who killed a pregnant woman in a drive by.

I read stingtalk once a week to keep my hate for the yeller jokettes at a healthy 110%. After reading it last night, I sat on the patio with an adult beverage and a fine maduro cigar.
I had thought’s of a Carl Spackler line from Caddyshack.
“I have to laugh”. It was a great nightcap.

I’ve said elsewhere, but John Franklin – most recently of Auburn – should’ve gone to GT. I think he would’ve made a great option QB.

You know PJ didn’t dismiss him unless he had not choice. The school probably expelled him.

It’s a high school offense and they will be fine. The day the NCAA really gives a crap about player safety and outlaws cut blocking is the day Fish Fry is out of a job. The rule should be no Olineman can block below the waist of a defensive player inside or outside of the tackle box. While they are at it they should change their stupid cut block rule for outside the tackle box. The BS about if the blocker is going away form the LOS it’s ok but if he is going back toward the LOS it is a foul. Too damn easy to get away with it since the damn line officials have too much stuff to watch.

Tech fudged their policy and gave the kid four chances to fail a drug test and of course he did. Other schools already inquiring. I know somebody who knows somebody who knows somebody so believe it.

Most of the nerds on Stinktalk are fatalistic about this. A few think it’s not a big deal..that it’s not that hard to find a good back to run that positiion. While I have no idea, I do know that the kneebreaker offense depends first on the QB making the correct reads, the line knowing how to pull and roll pursuing defenders from the shinbones up, and at least one set of good hands to keep the defense a little honest against the pass.
I also know this..Sgt. Booch Carter continues to have a gold plated horseshoe lodged in the lower part of his colon. I thought GT would beat them. It will help if Tennessee wins..so they will be higher ranked when the Dawgs show up
