It’s rubber meets the road time.

We’re heading out in a few minutes to get to the Rose Bowl, park and go see the Parade.  I think there’s a game after that we’re going to, as well.

Anyway, I think this Rose Bowl has all the makings of a classic.  I expect both teams to move the ball.  I think Oklahoma is going to do what it can to shock and awe Georgia early on, in hopes of building a big enough lead to force the Dawgs out of their game plan and play chase all day.

The key for me is Georgia avoiding losing its composure, as it did at Auburn.  If the team can play disciplined ball for 60 minutes, it’s good enough to beat anyone.

It’s hard not to be excited, no?

Consider this your game day thread.  I’ll try to touch base later on.

See you at the game. We are in section 27 along with thousands of our closest friends!

What an amazing setting for the venue. We drove yesterday down Linda Vista Drive and was blown away by how we were in a beautiful residential neighborhood and then at the bottom of the hill, there is a 94,000 seat stadium! Truly unique!

If we win, it’ll all be blamed on what’s-his-name’s illness. And I surely won’t give a shit. I was 10 the last time we won a national championship, where Herschel’s dislocated shoulder surely hurt more than the sniffles. Go Dawgs!

Let me this about being sick. I started feeling rough last Wednesday and haven’t been off the couch since (my wife is sick of seeing me in a robe with a remote, watching the entire PGA tour schedule from ‘17). Doc gave me two shots and I will be up tomorrow. There’s no way I could be at my best for some time. Mayfield has youth on his side and who knows how sick he was/is. But because he was AWOL for that much time says he was rather sick. They can fill him with errything till his veins burst, but he isn’t 100%. At best, he is achy and repeatedly being tackled will hurt more than normal. There’s a hot take (finally get to give one)

Dolly, that’s not meant to argue with you. I hope he’s so sick he pukes every time he sees Roquan. And I can’t imagine how Herschel played with a dislocated shoulder and performed like he did, either.

My apologies for being such an arse the other day. Although I may have a different take on an issue, there is no need to be a jerk about it. One of the greatest strengths of UGA is that it is a melting pot of much different think and it all seems to coexist pretty darn well.

Hope you guys have a great day and the Dawgs come out on top!

I’ll be sitting in my parents’ living room on the beautiful (if not freezing 22-degree) Eastern Shore of Maryland, which lies between the Chesapeake Bay and Atlantic Ocean.

With me will be my younger brother, our families, and my father, Jason. He’ll turn 61 next month. He was born in Athens in 1957 to Rose and Jack. Rose worked nights as an operator for Southern Bell and my grandfather Jack — a twice-Bronze-Star-decorated WWII vet – worked as a custodian at UGA.

My dad’s entire childhood was saturated with all things UGA, as he constantly visited his father on campus, especially on weekends and during the summers. He “ran all over that place.” His favorite memories the times he spent with his father Jack in and around Sanford Stadium, and in one of the cafeterias where they’d enjoy I’ve cream.

People often ask me why I’m a Georgia fan. Keep in mind I now live in Maryland. They usually ask, “Are you from Georgia?” And I say, “No, I was born and raised in Mississippi. But my dad was born and raised in Athens and his father worked at the University of Georgia.” They normally say, “Oh, that’s neat.” But they don’t get it. No one up here is a college football fan at all. Unless you meet some transplanted Ohio State or Penn State fans. And I’ve met one Hokie….

The point is, if I tell someone up here that the first words of my older sister (born in’80) were “Huhshuh Wawkuh!!!” They don’t have a clue what I’m talking about.

So I’m thankful I (born in ‘83) get to enjoy what is perhaps the greatest Georgia season since 1980 in the age of the Internet. So I get to better participate in the enjoyment of it all with part of Dawg Nation. I’ve been reading and participating in this blog for three seasons. And what a crazy three seasons to come in on.

Some random thoughts from a hyped up Georgia fan who’s more excited about this game than he has any right to be.

  9. We have to take the initial punch. Riley has to know his team cannot win a game that goes the full 60 minutes. They are going to try to put us on the canvas early. I’ll take a repeat of the 1st quarter in Jacksonville … I’m not asking for much.

Watching OU v. tOSU replay this morning. OU really looks like Auburn with a far better QB, but less impressive OL and overall slower team speed. Whichever version of UGA shows up will decide this one.

May be obvious, but it is the truth. I think we are slightly better when you compare all three units, pretty close with intangibles; it will take a high level of execution to put a W up… I think we win a close one with the total points in the 60s.

I’m really banking on the total package of our team being the difference. Special teams and field position may be the unspoken factors that make the difference. OSU held OU to 3 first half points, if our D can limit their O in the first half while our running game pounds the ball…I like our chances.

I preached it..you cannot stay in this game if you won’t gamble on fourth and short. Attempting that FG was a huge mistake. Now we’ll be down 14..Worst case scenario. Inside the forty has to be four down territory.
Conservative will get you embarrassed in this game.

We are already getting embarrassed thanks to the ESPN narrative that it’s our D against that douche Mayfield. We have entered embarrassment territory.

      Like

    • Cosmic Dawg

Yep. If CKS has an achilles heel it’s being conservative on 4th and short. You’re either going to go for it NOW on 4th and 2 with Nick and Sony in the backfield or go for it LATER down two scores with five minutes left on 4th and 8. How many games have we seen that happen?

Bringing FG to a touchdown fight…if the D had been performing better, maybe. But we needed to keep that drive alive by any means necessary to match the pace, as our D has been on its heels nearly the entire game.

            Like

    • Uglydawg

I agree. We let them bait us into passing too much.
And the dumb fg attempt early was a huge mistake. We should have gone for it and worked to get seven. That is the turning point of this game.
(except maybe our first series being stopped…we were baited into throwing it when we can run it on them)
But I knew we were in trouble on OK’s first possession when BM overthrew his receiver down the right sideline and he pulled our guy away from the interception by the arm. No call. That would have put them in an early hole if it were called. The dumb ass official called Oklahoma , “Ohio” on the coin flip. It thought that was strange. I don’t know if OK has a penalty.
No matter..they have outplayed us and deserve to be winning. If we don’t get the first stop of the second half, we’re finished. Clemson or Alabama will be in the same mess..except they will get some calls we won’t get. I don’t think OK can play four perfect halfs, but if they do they’re # 1.
Right now, we’re about to see what this team has for a heart.
