Getting to the game PSA

At the risk of setting off another moronic political stampede, for those of you driving to the game Monday night, here’s the APD’s current list of street and lane closures around MBS.

This blog, political comments? Hope everyone going can pull us through. I still can’t believe this is real.

Yeah, I got in late and saw that other one was over 120 comments and said “Nah.” I get in trouble on the political threads. Hell, I get in trouble on the non-political threads, too, but at least my batting average on those is a little better.

I’m worried about parking. I’ve never been to MBS, so I don’t know anything about that. I imagine it’s ample, right? At least for a fee?

Go to the website and prepay for your spot and print your ticket and you will have a spot no matter what. <$20

The game and the celebration will go past midnight, which will increase the price you pay at many of the downtown decks.

Add the time to your parking reservation. It will be worth it.

Why would anyone get down into that mess when MARTA can eliminate street closures? Where is closest station if coming down 75 North? Friend from this area said he was catching it at Perimeter, initially thought Marietta but no line goes that way. Not sure exactly where North Springs is, at least by that name; seems to be the northern most point.

The MARTA North Springs station is accessible only from the north on GA400. It will require you to drive up to Northridge and come back south both times.

Sandy Springs, Dunwoody, and Medical Center are all better options.

Also be aware that less than half of the northbound trains go there after the game, so expect a mob on the platforms downtown and at Lindbergh if the game is close.

They’re extending service and adding more northbound trains, so I’d expect that there will be plenty to catch to the three stations you mentioned.

I live in NW GA also, but close enough to Cedartown that I go 278 to I 20 and catch the train at H E Holmes just inside 285 on the west side. Very little traffic there and a straight shot to MBS (no train change required).

There will be a LOT of traffic coming from the west. I would imagine ‘Bama fans will use H E Holmes.. Be prepared to ride sitting between Bubba and Mulga.

Ugly, I will take exception to that statement. We observed and noted how positively representative the Bama fans were Monday night. Especially compared to the Auburn, “we never been before, let’s go today” fans in MB. Bama knows how to do this and do it right. My guess is there will be more bubba and phyllis dawgs Monday outside than from Alabama. We got ‘em, too, ya know

Out-of-town Alabama fans don’t do MARTA.

You should be OK as long as you get off and return at Vine City.

    • Dunwoody is probably the best option (right across the street from Perimeter Mall).

If you are coming from 75 north you will want either Dunwoody or Sandy Springs stations. To get to NS station you would have to drive back north up 400.

Also, do not bother transferring trains to get to the Dome/GWCC stop on the Blue/Green line. That stop is the closest, but it is a complete cluster**** with the crowds. You can walk from the Five Points stop or even Peachtree Center and its not far, much easier. Same thing going back. Don’t screw with the crowds at the Dome/GWCC stop. Just go ahead and walk to Five Points.

Some really good information in those answers, thanks to all. I will definitely leave the North Springs station out. Perimeter area is what was recommended to me before I asked anyway so I will likely take that option. Probably walk from a station away in downtown too like Rp suggested. .

I considered Uber but the road closure potential made me think MARTA would be best way. Going early enough that it shouldn’t matter, and President Trump will be out of there long before I would getting outside after the game. Plus, we expect to have some celebrating.

Between Obama and John Lewis I’m surprised we have any roads to close for the Emperor’s grand and triumphant ingress. After all, Mein Furhgrabber informed me that John Lewis’s district was falling apart and in horrible shape. And, as we know, America sucks or at least is somewhat less than “great.”

I figured he’d have to arrive by bullet proof stage coach. There can’t be any reliable infrastructure anywhere around Atlanta can there? Perhaps if Lewis had an airport of even some minor magnitude in his district that would help.

I went to a Chicago Bulls game one time attended by Obama when he was in office. We arrived at the stadium one hour early and were in our seats halfway through the first quarter. They literally wanded every person who entered the stadium.

The waiting in the cold, the packed trains , and the smell of piss are a few reasons I will be taking uber.
