“We remember the Sugar Bowl, I think it my junior year of high school, we let Alabama beat us twice,” Brinson said of a team that also lost to the Crimson Tide in the SEC Championship game. “We’re not letting Alabama beat us twice. In the Sugar Bowl in 2018, they… thought they should have been in the playoffs and lost to Texas.” -- AB-H, 12/27/23

I wouldn’t get too upset about that one. In the annals of corruption, it’s small beer.

I’ll have two small beers with my tickets for Monday please.

Simply the way the world turns. What’s a US Congressman gonna do for UGA though? They aren’t doing anything else.

That one, in particular, is a waste of good breathin’ air.

500 tickets to the Rose Bowl were given for free by the University of Georgia to students? Which students? And who decided which students?

The same group that decided which political hacks they need favors from in the future. Big donors kids need tickets too.

Taco Bell paid for those tickets. We (students) got an email about it. They had a lottery set up for those who cleared a certain threshold (basically seniors with no strikes).

Good and informative answer, DoubleDawg. Thank you.
In Mayor’s (and Cousin Eddie’s) defense for asking..I had the same question..there is just so much corruption and cronyism that we older folk tend to be suspicious of a lot of stuff.(usually with good cause).
If you were a ticket lottery winner, congratulations!

I had no chance of winning that lottery unfortunately. Graduate students are at the bottom of the priority list because we have fewer credit hours and they made a decision several years ago to discount undergrad hours that people like me had accumulated at Georgia in favor of giving freshman higher priority. Not a popular decision among double dawgs to say the least.

State funding and federal grants still comprise a large part of the university’s funding. Like it or not, a happy legislator will prioritize the university’s requests and go to bat.
Don’t hate the player, hate the game.

Saw on the news this morning that a Florida legislator is going to run for Governor of that state.
He used a most unfortunate phrase, saying,
“I want to drain the Swamp”.
Delighted me, but a poor choice of words for him.

Meh. They lost me when the mentioned how hot the tickets were. ND tickets were much harder to come by. I bought mine for face value from the Rose Bowl website, and there were plenty on sale from the local entrepreneurs. Politicians gonna politic.

I found them at face value also. Tickets were the least expensive part of the process. I never dreamed of needing to spend so much to see any game, then I had to go to the bathroom twice in the second half. Middle age ain’t everything that I had hoped for.

After all the hassle of getting in to start the game, I would have just wet myself rather than leave the stadium before the game was over. And after it was over, it took another 30 minutes trying to get out.
It’s a beautiful venue, and I love single level bowls, but that place would be a nightmare in an emergency (such as an earthquake).
