I thought DJ’s perspective was interesting when he said he stood in the pocket too long at times rather than running. Richt and Bobo would beg him to run in film sessions, but DJ wanted to show them he could throw. I imagine there’s one pass in DJ’s career he wishes he could have back … the 2002 pick 6 in Jacksonville.

One thing Fromm proved without a doubt last year is that there may be no person on the team as competitive as he is. Short of injury, I don’t see Fields knocking Fromm off the top of the mountain. The young man showed leadership beyond his years in 2017.

Roth needs to simmer down.
(Not since Jamis Winston, blah, blah, blah). Clemson fans might disagree. While I hope Fields has all of the qualities Roth is assigning to him, he’s never taken a snap in a college game. Roth acts as if the kid has already won a Heisman and Fromm just needs to get out of the way.
There’s a reason Saban waited so long to insert Tua…and the same reason will likely temper Smart’s desire to bring Fields along slowly. A kid can have so much talent, but that one rookie mistake can cost you dearly (see ee’s remarks above). That one hurt.
Best scenario is for Fields to redshirt..but we’ll need to find out what other options are viable for #2. We might get a surprise. Somebody has to be #2 from the first snap…Fromm was able as a true freshman. But he’s probably an exception to the rule
With this O line and the running backs Georgia has, I don’t think CKS is going to feel the need to replace a very solid Fromm.

The only way I would want a RS for Fields is if he fails to prove he is ready for this step from now until late August. If he demonstrates he needs more time, give it to him by holding him out. But if he is even close to able to compete with Fromm, we need both of them ready to play the next down.
We knew last season from reports of those attending practice that Fromm was way ahead of where you would expect a freshman to be, so why sit him? I don’t think KS had any intention of keeping Fromm on the bench, he realized we were one play away from needing him to step in. If Fields is at that point in 2018, I hope we let him play and get comfortable with live action. I assume we all agree this shouldn’t be a throwaway season just to get class separation. Fields may not be as prepared as Fromm, regardless of his skills, but he is one of two scholarship QBs we have, so I hope he is capable and gets some reps in early games.

When he mentioned Jameis “Crabs” Winston in the same story as Fields, I knew it was bullshit. Winston’s not 1/10th the person Fields is.

We just watched the best true freshman qb performance in college football history last year. There is no controversy. Fromm is our qb.
I hope they can find some situational things for fields and that he does well at them. There will not be a set qb rotation.
