Alert reader eethomaswfnc caught this jersey hanging in a store at Perimeter Mall and begged me for a NTC to honor it:
Who am I to argue? Have at it in the comments.
“We remember the Sugar Bowl, I think it my junior year of high school, we let Alabama beat us twice,” Brinson said of a team that also lost to the Crimson Tide in the SEC Championship game. “We’re not letting Alabama beat us twice. In the Sugar Bowl in 2018, they… thought they should have been in the playoffs and lost to Texas.” -- AB-H, 12/27/23

Tyler Simmons was onside.
That’s all I have to say about that.

I’ll never forget. All the work and effort of the coaches and players…all of the blood, sweat and tears left on that field…and the outcome was determined by non-participants wearing stripes…it happens too often, but this one left not just a mark, but an angry scar. Those refs are shitheads.

I’m going to keep saying this until someone acknowledges it.
It didn’t matter that Simmons was onside; the play should never have happened. Three Bama players committed false starts and the play would/should have been blown dead before the snap. Watch the replay; it’s clear as day. The one that chaps my @#$ the most is the missed false start by the WR on the tying TD pass. Especially because it was 4th down.

That blown call, which is disputed by not one person, is the one which changed the outcome. We didn’t have to let it, but the other two significant misses in that same half, which also cannot be disputed ( the illegal movement by their freshman RB on a key 3rd TD throw and the helmet turning face mask on Swift which wasn’t called, helped to change the outcome. Not Bama’s fault, but that game was handed to them by us and the refs. Cannot say we were definitely the better team last year, but we were on January 8,2018.

Agree, but don’t forget the head slap on Fromm while he was on the ground right in front of an official.

Finally watched a replay of the game 6 months after being at the game. Instead of providing a sense of closure…it made me even angrier (if possible) to see all those ref influenced-plays over again.
For some reason, the push against the back of Fromm’s head bothers me more than the others. I think it’s because most of the others could be explained by incompetence or the official’s simple failure to see the foul (even through everyone else in the stadium did see it). But the Fromm head slap was right IN FRONT of the official who simply decided to swallow his whistle instead of making what should have been an obvious and uncontroversial call, especially given the chippy nature of Alabama’s play at that point. Indefensible. That call alone turns an eventual punt into a first down in field goal range.

Very well said. The guy just didn’t have the balls to make the call. Maybe he was intimidated by Phyllis from Mulga or something. If so, he should never walk on the field in stripes again.

Bama is also now claiming the implied National Championships in ’63 and ’66 from the movie as well…

As a person who sort of admires Forest Gump, that jersey is sad.
