Georgia is still fourth in Bill Connelly’s S&P+ rankings. In terms of percentile performance, the Tennessee game marked the Dawgs’ worst showing of the season.
Bill also does a resume ranking, where he filters the S&P+ numbers through strength of schedule. Georgia is fourth there, too. (Check out the gap between Alabama and everybody else. Gulp.)
Georgia is still tops in Brian Fremeau’s FEI ratings. That, despite a very mediocre 63rd-best showing in net starting field position. One reason for that:
Bill and Brian combine their data into what they call their F/+ ratings. Georgia is second.
Bottom line is that Georgia is a very good team with room for improvement. But you knew that already, right?
I expect they’ll stumble through another comfortable win against Vandy Saturday. The question is, can they simply flip the switch against an LSU team that’s talented enough to beat them?

Right? I keep wondering if we’re seeing a disinterested team walking through the motions against overmatched opponents, or if this is just the inconsistency of youth. If it’s the latter then we’re going to drop at least one, maybe two games against LSU, UF, UK and Auburn. I’d love to see this team turn a corner against Vandy, but that’s what I was hoping for last week against UT.

I think it’s probably a combination of the two, but we’ll see.

Man, I’d LOVE to see a workman-like performance where we just methodically crush Vandy. I’d much rather have seen it against the Vowels.
Unfortunately, I think this team is still trying to figure out who the leaders are.

Inconsistency of youth. That best describes it IMHO.

That’s the thing here. Alabama is also a young team with young talent, but they’re mowing people down with no problem. We can’t keep saying “youth!” because our QB has more career starts and reps with his guys than Tua does.
I think we’re just missing those seniors a lot more than we might have expected.

Their upperclassmen are generally more talented than Georgia’s. Their offensive line has more upperclassmen starting on it. Most of Georgia’s elite talent are freshmen and sophomores. There’s a reason people think Georgia’s 2019 and 2020 teams are going to be the elite ones, while this is something of a bridge year. That Georgia is still fielding a top 5 team is promising, and by the end of the year, it may be able to beat Alabama.

Two things I want to see
I want to see consistent excellence by the offense. They need to sting together the occasional flashes of dominance into a steady grinding machine.
I want to see the defense shut down offenses on their first possesion..so they are punting from their 15 yd. line (or there-abouts). This will reflect in better avg. starting position for the offense.

Wow, the 2 teams that played for the National Championship last year and the actual Defending National Champs make up the top 3. Great teams gonna do great things.

I really enjoy this blog, though I rarely comment, I find the comments just as entertaining. I mostly read on my phone(Android), and lately I’ve been having crazy pop up ads and redirects everytime I visit this site. Anyone else have these problems? It only happens on this site.

My only problem with the app is after about 3 replies, it’s hard to tell who a response is intended for. Some functionality isn’t quite as easy to use as going through your selected browser (either laptop or mobile), but for reading and basic commenting, it’s pretty good.

Didn’t know about the app either. I’ll give it a shot. Thanks for the heads up.
