Hoo wah! That’s the kind of wishful thinking I read after Georgia broke through and won the 1997 Cocktail Party game. How’d that turn out?
It’s not the bullshit that’s notable here — that’s pretty much Bianchi’s stock in trade — but the mindset. Georgia has won back-to-back games in Jacksonville by more than 15 points for the first time since the 1940’s. The Dawgs have won five of the last eight games in the series. And now, even Florida cheerleaders like Bianchi have to acknowledge that Georgia has the upper hand.
Georgia has finally emerged from the post-1990 Spurrier framework, in other words.
Richt deserves credit for righting the Auburn and Georgia Tech series. What Kirby’s done with the Gators is easily in the same class. It’s great to be a Georgia Bulldog these days, no?

Truly the Georgia-Florida game hasn’t been the same since the Gator Stomp, the series is knotted 6-6 since then. Kirby has brought the return of the good guy beatdown version of the game though, and it’s a welcome sight.

I’ll tell you what I’m done with now, perceptionwise: the CF media’s obsession with “hasn’t-since” every time Georgia wins in Jacksonville. This year it’s “hasn’t won a meeting with both teams in the top ten since 1983!” Sounds like something, but that covers maybe two, maybe three games- none of the last ten. Next year they’ll be marveling that 2019 is the first Gator team we’ve beaten that wore orange shoelaces at night since 1904.
It’s all meant to imply that Georgia’s wins over Florida are still an anomaly. That hasn’t been true since 2013.

Yep. We evened it up after that, and Kirby has brought the “Kirb-stomp” to the gator chomp. Gators got about all they could out of their talent on Saturday and lost by 3 scores. They have a long way to go to get back to parity on talent.

It was legit three times, in my opinion: 2011: first time we beat FU & UT in the same year since 1988 (that was a big one); 2012: first 2IAR since ’87-’89; 2013: first 3IAR since ’89.
The Curse is long dead- this is the dawn of the Payback Era. Or as Wyatt Earp’s similar tour was called, the Vengeance Ride. Or as Al Capone said, kill ’em, burn their houses down, piss on their graves.

Given the personnel losses off of this Gator team for the upcoming 2019 season, coupled with the returning players and lack of departures on UGA’s side, plus the recruiting trajectories of both programs and prowesses of each respective coach, I could see another 2017-style thorough humiliation next year. It is all fluid obviously. But I don’t see where Bianchi is coming from at all here.
Hell, Phil Steele had UF as his most improved team this year so it’s not like their improvement is that much of a surprise.

Disagree. I don’t think we’ll see another 2017 game for a long time, primarily due to the fact Mullen ain’t no McElwain. To stay on top of this rivalry Georgia will have to continue to haul in Top 3 nationally ranked recruiting classes.

Yeah, a lot of 2017 was the McElwain situation, and not so much that he was a terrible coach (okay, maybe he was) but just the whole situation: him mailing it in or the team quitting on him or a combination of the two. With a little planning and focus they could have played better last year. That said, if we can maintain ‘crootin’ and keep getting and retaining good coaches we have nothing to fear.

Only thing about 2017 is that it could have been so much worse. I don’t know about Kirby and McElwain personally, but I feel Kirby TRULY dislikes Mullen.
He may not let up in the future.

Georgia team is going to be hell on wheels for the foreseeable future.
This year is to clear the hiccups before the full and awesome onslaught of the Big Dawg eating.
I’ll go ahead and predict that next year’s WLOCP will feature an epic beatdown of Florida…and Fromm will still only be a junior..

Yep. Our offensive line played 2 freshmen and 2 sophomores. A sophomore caught 2 TD passes. A sophomore ran for over 100 yards. A freshman played well at NG, and we rotated in sophomores. Our leading tackler was a sophomore. Our second leading tackler was a sophomore.
I know UF will return a number of its starters, but we have beaten those guys by a cumulative 78-24.

You know what that talk and overall mentality sounds like? UGA fans’ mentality during much of the 90’s and 00’s up till 7-8 years ago or so.
Go ahead and file this article away for next year and the year after, as the talent gap between us is only widening from here.

This. Despite the even record over the last few years this is the year when the mindset, and in turn the rivalry, shifted. They even busted out the alternate uniforms and got beat by 19.
As I commented in a post from yesterday, I’ve seen this movie before and know exactly how it goes. I’m just glad to see the roles are reversed.

So when is he going to get this elite talent? At the moment, he’s sitting on a class of 8 four stars and 7 three stars. Even if they close as projected, they end up around 12th nationally. That’s nice, but it’s not going to close the talent gap. It will, in fact, be exactly where they have been.

You can tell in his attitude and demeanor, even in the post-game press conference, that Kirby enjoys Florida wins a bit more. He takes all games seriously, but this one in particular. It’s almost like he came in saying he was gonna right the ship in Jacksonville. Plus, I think he really detests Mullen.

They have yet to process the fact that their most current BCS winning head coach quit in them. How could a guy ever willfully leave Gainseville? And then go coach somewhere else? Curiosity, both of their BCS winners chose to leave. I cant think of any other instance where a college coach won it all only to leave and coach elsewhere.

I’m convinced no matter what the recent trends are, the sports media will find a way to selectively spew whatever record favors Florida. Coming into this game last week, I heard more than once “Florida has won 3 of the last 4 against Georgia.”
That’s amazing. For years and years I had to listen to them reference the series record since 1990, as if we never played football before that, and now I guess that record doesn’t sound as one-sided, so we’re picking new start dates.
So my question is this – which selective start point do they choose next year to make it sound like Florida isn’t on the wrong side of this one?

Agreed, Gameday was looking at the series from 1990 over looking that the series has been a .500 game for the past decade. They will continue to push the home game story and the Florida belief that football started in the 90s with Spurrier.

Mullen seems like the early leader for the 2018 Paul Johnson SPORTSMANSHIP Award, which is a golden skillet containing frying fish. However, Johnson himself is still a candidate, and can finish the drill with a subpar performance on the field and in the post-game presser in Athens. Maybe next year, Dan!

Was this guy a cheerleader in college? What happened to the UCF pom poms? What kind of credibility does a UCF faux title guy have (except in Florida with their tendency to slant the narrative and ignore the obvious. This type of nonsense is what some UGA fans have bought into for the last 28 years.
Yes, FU will get better and the games will remain competitive, and spirited. But to ignore the changes and still continue to live in the 90s in the face of these two games, and the returning talent for next year, defies logic. Looks like UGA may find another nut to get us through the brutal winter. And, BTW, we are a younger team than FU so more returning guys with a higher ceiling for next year (you may recognize some of the names: Fromm, Swift, Holyfield, Bauta, Holliman, Thomas, LeCounte, etc.) Not saying that guarantees a UGA win, but more of a factor than Spurrier/Goff. Oh, Kirby has never lost a matchup against Mullen as a coach, and UGA has never come close to losing against a defense coached by Grantham.
