As I explained in the comments last night, the Gran saga is all about Jimmy Sexton, not Gran becoming Georgia’s next coordinator. If Kirby can be enigmatic and do his agent (who happens to be Sexton, duh) a small favor, no harm, no foul as it pertains to Athens.
But if you really want to put your mind at ease over the possibility that a Kentucky assistant coach said no to a job offer from Georgia, consider this.
First of all, please know that, here at DawgNation, if there’s a report anywhere we’re going to let you know about it. That’s why we have a team of breaking news reporters who’s job it is to inform you if there’s anything out there that bears our attention — or yours. And, to be clear, Matt Jones of Kentucky Sports Radio is somebody I consider a credible reporter. But I don’t for a second believe Gran was offered the Georgia OC job and certainly not “total control of the offense and $1.1 million.”
Here’s a couple of things to think about. Agents put these things out in the universe all the time. I don’t doubt there might’ve been some kind of contact or interaction between Georgia and Gran, but I don’t believe the Bulldogs ever offered him the job. Secondly, let’s think about this logically from Kirby Smart’s perspective. So just a year ago, you thought James Coley being on your staff was important enough to move him from WRs to QBs and make him co-offensive coordinator. A year later, your real OC leaves (somewhat unexpectedly). Now you’ve got a guy who sat in the offensive room with Chaney every day and in the coaches’ box for 14 games, and now you think the best idea is to go out and hire somebody else over him?
The give away there is “total control of the offense”. You guys have watched the program under Smart for three seasons now. Do you think it’s in Kirby’s nature to give anyone total control over any part of the football program? Don’t be absurd.
Smart isn’t losing any sleep over Eddie Gran staying in Lexington. You shouldn’t either.
Get The Picture 
There has to be an explanation why no Coordinators have been named. Especially since the offensive heir apparent is currently on staff. What’s reported as a no brainer should have been announced two days ago. I trust Kirby but none of this makes sense, publicly. BTW, Ansley’s playoff run ended in September, so, if he’s the guy, that ain’t the hold up.

I doubt Smart is lacking for good candidates.
Front burner item right now is recruiting and unless the absence of coordinators is having an impact there, I doubt he’s in as much of a rush as we are. 😉

From what I’m hearing through the grapevine, Elam’s commitment to Georgia is contingent on knowing who will be the DC and DB coaches.

I doubt that is being given serious consideration. If we get a great candidate that brings Elam then great, but that kid will be gone in a few years or maybe sooner given the new transfer portal. Then again I guess you could say the same ab the OC lol.

I’m sure that Kirby’s planning on Coley and probably also the internal DC, but there’s no need to rush that process. Those guys aren’t going anywhere. Why not take your time and make sure there isn’t some ridiculous home run hire sitting out there before you go with Plan A?

You think maybe it’s possible that the candidates Kirby is targeting for various roles are the type of people who have more than stay put or move only to UGA for one role? Maybe these candidates are closing out the process on HC offers or the wife needs convincing. Just because fans don’t understand what’s going isn’t an indication that Kirby process has gone awry. The 24-7-365 second-guessing is certainly a major part of sports blogs and talk radio, but it’s all too often grounded in ignorance or click-baiting. How bad would the Drama Dawg effect be if we had a failing program again (Richt phase2, Donnan, Goff, Dooley phase2)?

I get what you’re saying, but Gran actually did a heck of a job last year. He had a QB who couldn’t hit the broad side of a barn if his life depended on it, and schemed around it to get enough points to help them finish with 10 wins. Having Snell certainly helped, but he’s one of those guys who can scheme around his talent, rather than forcing the talent to fit to his scheme.
All that being said, it’s hard to say he’s necessarily inherently better than Coley. I would have considered it a solid hire, but not to the point that I’m upset we didn’t get him.

I wasn’t wild about how he took the ball out of Snell’s hands at key moments. It should have cost them the game against Mizzou but the refs bailed them out. Thankfully that’s not our worry anymore.

Reminds me of when the AJC reports on a Tech signing announcement with
“he chose the Jackets over UGA and Clemson”, knowing the kid never got a real, actual and signable offer from anyone but Tech, Western Carolina and Wake Forest.

Correct, and SCU fans do this all the time when they land some 3 star athlete who apparently has an offer from UGA. Even though our offer was non-committable at best, they often work themselves into a lather and convince themselves they beat us head to head for said recruit. Later on they can’t figure out why that said recruit isn’t as talented as our guys.

Only thing about Coley is if the rumors about Chaney and him not getting along are true, there’s potentially issues with Coley and Pittman as well. We know Pittman and Chaney are close. I guarantee that whoever Kirby hires will be someone Pittman signs off on.

Are you saying we’re in contract negotiations with him? As Miami OC we finished 46th, 42nd, and 64th in total offense, and 36th, 59th, 67th in scoring offense.

UT had a chance to go bowling. They collapsed down the stretch. By taking the former Dawg OC who was at UT before you are bringing them up to UGA’s level. While UT had no football accomplishments, but now by running this weird personal story [all Dawg Nation] re an OC you are in essence lifting their program to ours by a hire.
Are you stupid Dawg Nation or just desparate to run stories re advertising.
Lot of folks are on the verge of stop visiting that site because of stuff like this.

Tigerfart.com is reporting Derek Dooley has been offered the OC job; Kirby’s giving him total control, 2 million a year, and threw in a Chrysler Sebring Convertible to drive around town in.

If he’s on Enos, and he may be, we know that fights with Saban become difficult: see CKS and our DC position.
If Pittman and Enos are tight, and if Kirby wants Enos, I think he’ll get him.
Personally, I’d rather have a proven OC than take a chance on Coley.

Kirby will not, and should not, ever give up total control of anything regarding the program while HC. But he should loosen the reigns some on both offense and defense, imo. Even control freak Saban has evolved, especially on offense, and Kirby has to not dig his heels in so much that we are single-minded in our approach, and too predictable. I see signs of that, and it may be my biggest concern for us in the next few days, and couple of years.
Opportunities like UGA is currently seeing do not come along every year, or even decades, we are at a fairly significant tipping point this month. Door wouldn’t be totally closed if we don’t go beyond the East in 2019 or 2020, but we will have squandered a very high level of talent for one conference championship. And Kirby will have burned a lot of cred on the recruiting circuit.

I’m sure I don’t have any idea what’s really going on behind closed doors, etc., but the optics of this really stink for Georgia. It looks like we offered Gran, and he turned us down. And today, it looks like we were pursuing Dan Enos, and he chose Miami over us.
A month from now, probably no one will remember or care about any of this, but boy do I want these coordinator searches to be over. And quickly.
