Same old Dawgs

Oh, wait.  What’s that, you say?

This is why I tend to chuckle at the internet chatter about “nothing since 1980”.  I get the past and the accuracy of the cheap taunt, but there’s a difference between a Georgia team that Kirby played on and one that Kirby coaches.  It’ll come.

Damn that’s a simple yet great quote. Don’t try to be happier than happy, and the grass usually isn’t greener on the other side are similar ones I try to live by as well.

0 in the loss column seems to mean less than ever. It is all about perfect games, never trailing, Heisman candidates, style points, SoS, etc. etc. That’s why we can’t let ourselves enjoy a win. 0 in the loss column is not really a 0 without the glitz.

If that becomes 4 years in a row… hoo, boy

This is really important. How many times were Richt’s good teams derailed by an early season loss before the team really jelled? The past few years, Kirby has avoided that issue which is huge for the ultimate ceiling of the team.

I agree with this. I was (am) a Richt fan, but Kirby’s preparation is much better. The team is much better prepared to start the season and during the season (SECW road games excepted). The payoff will come eventually, and I still think it could be this year.

As many times as we had multiple starters suspended.

Anyone (rival fan or otherwise) who even attempts to say that UGA football really hasn’t changed or improved all that much should draw simple laughter mostly. This program is in so much better shape than the country club, state of drift days under CMR it again isn’t even up for debate. And of course the 90’s featured Goff and later Donnan; I think no further comment is needed.

Over the weekend, my brother (a UT alum) mentioned that UGA now is better but not drastically better than before – after all, ‘we fired a 10 win a season coach!’ (sic) I reminded him that, in his 15 years at UGA, CMR never went undefeated in the SECE. Smart, meanwhile, hasn’t lost a SEC east game since ’16 and most likely will make it three straight undefeated years this year.

UGA football is so good these days that we complain about style points. We beat UT on the road at night by 29, covering the insane spread in the process, and people complain that UT made it a game for a half. Same for our win over a top 10 team two weeks prior. Our closest SECE win since Smart’s first year was the 14 point win at Mizzou last year.

When even ever-delusional SCU fans offer no hope in competing with you, you know times are good.

I am enjoying the hell out of this and our current winning streak against sec east teams. To me these are two of the most impactful data point improvements between the Smart and Richt eras.

“…the cheap taunt” is typically coming from fan bases that on one hand haven’t won the SEC, let along a national title in 20 years and another for which both are 10 years removed – like a decade isn’t a long time. Then there’s those assholes on North Avenue who should be sending thank you cards to Charlie Strong. But, you know, 1980 and such, woof woof woof.

The hate spewing from UT fans especially is at an all time high. These guys are trying to rub our nose in their 1997 NC like it was yesterday, and like the last decade of UT irrelevance didn’t happen. I get it. When SC was winning, I was quick to pull up historical stats, but I’ve come to realize that is just a tell tale sign of what losers do. Anyone else remember when Dabo looked like an idiot saying that shit about the SC v Clemson rivalry after he’d lost 5 in a row? Enjoy the moment for what it is: winning, b/c you’re a head coach away from the pain experienced by either of the SC schools.

Since Mark Richt became head coach, there are very few teams that could have walked away with a winning record against UGA over a 10 year period. That number is indeed much smaller yet today. If we knock out just one natty, all of a sudden our 20+ straight years of bowl games and lots of 10 win seasons will deliver some extra knockout blows as we trash other programs while basking in championship limelight.

Want a cheap “ taunt” was I the only one who saw the sign on SEC game day that said “I only date any girls except girls from UGA cause they never expect a RING” !
