How ’bout these apples?
That has the makings of a pretty good trivia question.
How ’bout these apples?
Since 2000, no team has made more appearances in the SEC Championship Game than Georgia, which is making its third consecutive trip to Atlanta and eighth total since the turn of the century.
Alabama has been seven times, Florida & LSU six, Auburn five and Tennessee three. pic.twitter.com/ZJQRAnNBNh

“We remember the Sugar Bowl, I think it my junior year of high school, we let Alabama beat us twice,” Brinson said of a team that also lost to the Crimson Tide in the SEC Championship game. “We’re not letting Alabama beat us twice. In the Sugar Bowl in 2018, they… thought they should have been in the playoffs and lost to Texas.” -- AB-H, 12/27/23
I never would have guessed that.

Sound right?

MSU hasn’t been since 2000. You missed Arkansas x2.

That’s right! Forgot completely about Arkansas in ’06. And I can’t believe it’s been 21 years since UT v. MissSt. Where does the time go?

Not trying to be that guy…but I’m going to be that guy: the new century did not occur until Jan 1, 2001, NOT Jan 1st, 2000. People still either can’t get this right or try to argue otherwise, which is laughable. Thus, Florida has been 5 times and Auburn 4.
Why the hell are we going out of our way to make UF and AU better than what they’ve been?

Seriously, I don’t do twitter but any of you that do should give them a heads up on that. I’m amazed to this day how many people think the 21st century began in 2000. Are these people flat earthers as well?

Nobody cares about being accurate, media is doing all their “best of the decade” lists even though there is still a year to go…. And even if they knew better or cared, they just want the hits and clicks anyway!

“Best of Decade” lists makes sense. This is the 10’s. Next year, the 20’s will begin. Yes, I understand that “there wasn’t a year zero, so if we go back to the beginning, it all starts at 1, not 0, sheesh!”
But, “The 11-20” Decade is not as catchy as “The 10’s”…

Does it matter? It’s simpler to organize things as the ’20s, ’30s, etc. Nobody cares that there was no year 0, and therefore the decades, centuries and millennia don’t technically begin until the xxx1s.

Yes, it does matter, as stating that the new century started in 2000 simply isn’t correct. And again they are giving AU and UF more credit than they deserve. If we are going to take a ‘does it matter?’ approach to things that don’t really affect us on a day to day basis, then man we are in trouble.

Isn’t it really all a matter of opinion ? I feel like you’d have to explain it back to zero time one way or the other to prove who is right. If I look at a changing time period as anything other than the last number rolling over, it stands to reason that 1 full year has elapsed in said new time period on January 1, xxx1. 9 years have elapsed on January 1, xxx9, meaning a 10 year is complete at 12:00AM Jan 1, xxx0.

No, not opinion. 21st century began Jan 1st, 2001. I mean, this can’t be debated.

I just looked this up, and you are technically correct because apparently there was no year ‘zero’ when going from BC1 to AD1. Just don’t start telling me that Georgia’s last national championship was in the 70s.

UGA’s champ was in the 80’s; I’m referring to centuries and such. Used to drive me nuts when people/media, etc would proclaim 2000 to be the new melinium even though they knew it wasn’t true.

That’s crazy. I mean, if you watched the SEC Network’s official history of the SEC (Saturdays Down South) for the decades of the 2000s and the 2010s, you’d think the only things that happened were Tim Tebow, Nick Saban, and Steve Spurrier to South Carolina.

Kirby has the same number of SEC titles since he left Bama as Saban too (and more SEC Title game appearances / division titles.) Not that Bama getting to play for multiple national titles despite not winning their division still annoys me or anything…
