Talk about scraping the bottom of the barrel…

Please, Gawd, no.

Paul Finebaum is negotiating with TV networks about a sitcom based on his life; such a move would see him leave ESPN and SEC Network.

Okay, I guess that’s both good news and bad.  It’s a shame “Just Shoot Me!” was already taken as a title, though.

Could you imagine the material he’s got accumulated from all the crazed Bama fans that have called in over the years? Probably more of a reality show than sitcom.

Can he take Herbie with??? Please!!!

I could actually see this being pretty funny. Can you imagine a season dedicated to a fictionalized version of the Mike Price affair?

Fact is stranger that fiction and what he has seen/heard from NCAA sanctions at auburn and alabama to Cam to the killing of the auburn oaks, to the various callers, its a pretty rich catalog.

And if it isn’t funny? Don’t watch. Much easier to avoid in that world anyway.

At his age he must be tired of that caller crowd. I can’t watch during the caller segments but he does have good guests. A fresh, younger face couldn’t hurt that four hours on the SECN.

Well, if this happens then there’s much less chance I’ll accidentally run across him. I’ve never willingly watched that jackass and the only time I’ve accidentally seen him is when I turn on the TV and he’s already there because I was watching a game previously.

What’s one more negative southern stereotype on TV? He’s already a parody on ESPN.

Best case scenario: he leaves ESPN, the pilot bombs, we never hear from him again.

So this would be a re-make of Green Acres or more aptly Mama’s Family, with a football theme? With Finebaum playing the part of Vicki Lawrence? Of course, it would take place in a trailer park. The plot almost writes itself. It’ll work, as long as it doesn’t go up against the Hannity time slot.

Green Acres and Mama’s Family would be considered intellectual comedy compared to anything involving Finebaum and his regular cast of Alabama callers.

I would absolutely LOVE to see him leave the SEC Network and ESPN for any reason at all. That time slot that he’s tying up on the SEC Network could be used for so many great things, even if only putting SEC Now in a time slot where it can actually operate as the SEC’s SportsCenter during football season and cover the sport all week long. Using Finebaum as a vehicle to cover the sport and not just say crazy things about it doesn’t work.

But man, I can promise you that I won’t be tuning in to that sitcom. Jeez, who would?! And didn’t they try this with some dumb sitcom on CBS about Kornheiser and Wilbon? Pretty sure that bombed, but not as hard as this one would. Who is putting together a national sitcom that’s more or less designed only to appeal to people in the southeast?

  11. It’s really not much of a stretch. Throw in some canned laughter and a cheesy soundtrack? You’re already there….

To prepare for the role, Wayne Knight is losing weight, practicing talking through his nose, and learning to shove his freshly-shaved head up his own ass.

Jon Lovitz would be another candidate for the role. Maybe Chris Eliott.

Finebaum maybe thinking that the mouse is going to dump him after this new contract. His compensation has likely hit a ceiling. Plenty of executives with MBAs who dabble in above the line production see talent as interchangeable. You can always find someone cheaper. Isn’t it time for Beth Mowins to have a show? – No, it isn’t, but that is beside the point. If Paul is successful at producing a hit sit com he’ll make way more money than behind his desk at ESPN. He’ll make enough to be his own production company. Can’t wait for, Orange Donut, The Phil Fulmer Story.

I’d get my hopes up, but the last time that happened was when Tebow was signed to the Mets and I thought it’d free him from SECN appearances.

    Thanks for the chuckle…

What makes this guy think people would be interested in HIS life? I hope he makes the move. I’m less likely to catch a glimpse of him on a sitcom.

I would be in favor of collapsing his two 4-hour shows into a single 30-min Jerry Springer type show that forces him to interact in person with his nutty following.

Who honestly watches all the gar-bage that is on television every day, on dozens of channels? And this isn’t even a slam of F-Bomb, this is really no worse than what is currently being swallowed by the public already. As a society, world wide, we really are asking to be nuked by someone. So much that could be done to improve things and this is how discretionary time is spent.

Reminds me of the time the world found out about a script for a Colin Cowherd sitcom pilot: https://deadspin.com/we-have-the-awful-pilot-for-colin-cowherds-awful-tv-sho-5759988

I mean, we’re already laughing at them anyway …
