End of an era

Didn’t see this baby coming, quite yet anyway…

Wow, indeed.  Wonder how big the hat is they’re passing around to the boosters right now to get the next head coach in the door.

Not to mention this hat:

Yeah, that coronavirus has really fucked up the way college athletic departments are doing business these days.

UPDATE:  When you fire somebody high profile like that, it usually means you’ve already got the replacement lined up.

Steve Sarkisian, a former head coach at Washington and USC who is coordinating the nation’s No. 2 scoring offense this season at Alabama, is expected to be named the new head coach at Texas, replacing Tom Herman, multiple sources told Horns247.

Not really surprised and it’ll be interesting to see where he lands. Smart went to him after anOSU beat Bama in the championship game. If Monken took another job would Smart hire him as OC? Hopefully we don’t have to find it.

Another coach whose career highlight is a victory over Georgia.

Where does he go? I predict Steve Sarkisian has been sober (or appeared thus) long enough that some sucker will hire him as head coach, and Herman will crash on Saban’s ever warm couch for a year or so.

At the very least, it means Sark won’t be coming back to the Falcons.

  5. I recall a certain blogger around here who was somewhat interested in Tom Herman as Richt’s replacement. 😉

I’m just glad Sark won’t be at Bama next year.

Lots of rejoicing here this morning. Sark is going to need a lot of help turning around the ship at UT. Deep issues. Hearing that if they don’t keep Ash that Agent Muschamp may return to the 40 Acres! Good times.

Reports of $25M to get rid of Herman and his staff.

The freshly Sabanized Sark should do well there, and immediately eat into Jimbo’s recruiting gains. That’s some 9th-dimensional chess right there from Saban.

  11. Sark to Texas…I’ll drink to that. Too soon?

Kiffen signed an extension. Lying in wait for Saban to retire.

So I guess Texas is not back after all? I feel quite sure that Texas A&Ms success this year helped accelerate the process. A&M getting the spotlight instead of the Longhorns is to much for the Tea Sips to stomach. The thought of A&M making the final four before the Horns is unthinkable to them. It will take a Saban like resume/personality to tell the boosters to shove it to have success at that job. It has been that way forever with football in Texas (UT and A&M). If you have never seen “The Junction Boys” watch it. Bear Bryant took A&M to the middle of nowhere to get away from the alumni almost 70 years ago

Texas is tired of mediocrity. Hires a 46-35 coach 8 years after forcing out a coach that was 158–48 at Texas.

    Makes sense.

F texas, just like UTknox, Michigan, USC, FU, Miami, FSU, etc..all “Used to be..” & “Has beens…” These dumbass programs that can’t get out of their own way over last last decade & a half. Sark is another retread with basically a break even record as an HC, isnt that like hiring Gene Chizik? Good freakin luck ‘Horns. They get a guy with no ties to the state. Welp, Too bad u didn’t get Fickle then.

  17. A whole range of supposedly can’t miss hires (Herman at TX, who LSU wanted, Chip Kelly at UCLA, who UF wanted, Scott Frost at Nebraska, who UF also wanted, and Harbaugh at Meatchicken) are all flaming out or getting fired.
Meanwhile USC is just sitting there with Clay Helton…still.

All these teams that hire saban assistants think there hiring saban himself. (Including us). How that working out for everyone?

Sark may be the wisest former Saban assistant. Get out of the SEC so he doesn’t have to deal with the “can’t beat his mentor” shit that all the rest do.
