First off, I owe you guys an apology. I can’t believe I had nothing to say about Deion Sanders getting his first head coaching gig.
Fortunately for both you and me, it looks like I’ll have plenty of opportunities to rectify my mistake. I mean, if this is the first Prime Time story right out of the gate…
Following his team’s 53-0 win over Edward Waters on Sunday in his head coaching debut, Jackson State coach Deion Sanders was not in a celebratory mood when speaking to the media.
Instead, the Pro Football Hall of Famer shared with reporters how angry he felt when he returned to the coaches’ room to find that all of his belongings had been taken, including his phone, wallet, credit cards and watches.
Shortly after Sanders shared this, however, Jackson State officials told Sports Illustrated‘s Ross Dellenger that Sanders’s belongings had not actually been stolen, and were simply misplaced after being relocated for safekeeping. They have since been found and returned to Sanders, bringing a positive resolution to a bizarre sequence of events.
But Sanders denied this version of the events later Sunday evening, saying on Twitter that his belongings were stolen out of his bag in his office but the perpetrator was caught in the act by Sanders’s assistant. In a statement to Dellenger afterward, Sanders said the items were later found “stashed away in another location.”
Sanders called the Sunday’s win, which culminated in him receiving an ice bath on the sidelines and being presented with the game ball by his players, “One of the best moments I’ve ever had in my professional sports career, emotionally.” He described the alleged theft as a “malicious personal attack” and said it was the second time he’d had property stolen from him since moving to Jackson in December.
It’s not every day you see a football coach throw his school under the bus, especially after his first game. (Not that I’m complaining.) Pass the popcorn, please.
“Never let a good crisis go to waste!”

Laying the groundwork for his eventual move to a higher profile school. In two, maybe three years he will go to at least a G5 team. Throw the school under the bus enough times and they’ll be happy to see you go.

I’ll wager that he might be thinking about eventually going back to FSU to bring them back to glory.

Yeah. Where there’s smoke there’s fire. He was pissed and rightly so.
But why he would leave his valuables unsecured in the first place is hard to understand. He’s been around and I’m certain he’s not naïve concerning locker rooms and theft. Maybe he was excited and forgot to put his stuff away.
I’m probably wrong, but I lean towards believing Dion’s version.
The stuff was stolen, a camera or some other means pointed to who took it, and it was returned. But Dion wasn’t so easily placated. If I moved someone’s valuables for good cause, I would immediately let them know
By any means, it’s a very unfortunate happenstance.

In the full article he states his assistant saw them get the items and she wasn’t comfortable stopping them. So she knew and he found out through her. The article made it seem like it was security but I was reading maybe a little more into his comments.

Don’t forget that just a month or two ago he had a boombox stolen from his truck in a hotel parking lot, where they actually smashed in the window to grab it. Deion is a flashy guy living in a very poor city in the poorest state in the country; suffice to say my hunch is this will not be the last time something like this happens.

He commented on this in the article as well. said he felt bad for this guy because he made bad decisions due to situations in his life and wanted to offer him a job to help him learn better but could not find him, because the guy did not know it was Deion’s stuff. This guy he felt intentionally targeted him because everyone knew it was his stuff and he has no sympathy for this person.

Prime Time will be at a Group of 5 program or back at the NFL Network in 3 years. I’m betting he’ll be back in a studio. The grind of being a head coach will eventually make him realize I made more money for less work in TV.

It will be interesting to watch. Despite all his silliness he’s still a hard worker. Balancing both pro football and baseball demonstrated his intense desire to succeed.
It shows bias on my part, but I never had any use for the guy until I saw that he liked to fish. I read that he was fishing at an obscure pond in Ft Meyers and the cops came to arrest him for trespassing. Fish were biting, cops didn’t have a boat handy, so he just kept fishing for a couple hours. What more could the cops do? Shoot the hometown hero who was in town for a police benefit? Hilarious.

I’m all for getting a big bowl of popcorn for the show, but I gotta say that I respect Sanders for saying the truth and not trying to sweep it under the rug.

Who knows what the truth is when Sanders is the narrator!!!

Whenever there is a locker room theft, look for a transfer to Auburn coming soon.

How long until he has JSU under NCAA investigation?

For what? He’s been complaining since day one about the lack of money to run a program, no booster level donations, poor facilities, awful field conditions. He’s made pleas for the public at large to donate money to help his team and other HBCU’s level the field with big time football schools. Only thing I can think of is paying players out of his own pocket.

Jackson is a bad town. Just read the Clarion-Ledger.

I’ve lived in Jackson for over 20 years now. More strip clubs than Walmarts (1) and movie theatres (0) in the city limits. If your property isn’t nailed down, don’t expect to keep it long. Near highest murder per capita in the country last year, and 2021 was off to a crazy start until the ice storm shut everything down and everyone had to sit at home for a week. Ancient infrastructure and pipes bursting everywhere, no safe running water to drink if you have any at all, including today with no leadership able to tell us when it will be fixed. My wife just texted that the trickle of water in her government office downtown is brown. I’m shocked they were even able to play that game yesterday, but the weather was great and it was nice that I could hear the bands from my living room while watching UGA baseball. So yeah, nowhere to go but up from here, right? How about you, Mrs. Lincoln?

I didn’t realize Jackson MS was that bad of a town. Ive worked in most of the hospitals but tended to choose hotels around Pearl. Seem to remember a “nice” part of town on the North side? I think there was an Apple Store up there? I can confirm that the roads/interstates are horribad.

I do love the little bubble part of Jackson I live in. Local bars and restaurants, where everybody knows your name. As far as the violent crimes, I’ve always told people don’t f**k your drug dealer or best friend’s wife and you won’t get killed. I’ve practiced criminal defense and prosecuted, so I like to think I know what I’m talking about! Lol. As far as the trendy nicer places, yeah, they do exist. Not my style, but you are correct.

Lying is not a trait I associate with Dion. He said his female assistant saw what went down and told him about it. It’s too eye-shifting to believe that someone moved it for security reasons, but doesn’t tell anyone about it. Only when the jig was up, did someone come clean. Dion is setting it straight, I think.
