Missing person

This just dropped out of the blue.

Georgia special-teams coordinator Scott Cochran is not currently with the program, sources told The Athletic on Sunday. Details on his future status are unknown.

Not worth speculating about why, of course, but it’s a little strange, considering how close he is with Smart.  More to come, I guess.

UPDATE:  Seth updated his report to add (1) Cochran’s absence is due to personal reasons and (2) Muschamp is available to step in until his return.

UPDATE #2:  Life moves at you fast.

Scott Cochran, for now, isn’t Georgia’s special teams coordinator. But Dawgs247 has confirmed that a veteran coach will be filling that assistant coaching void for the time being. Sources close to the program tell Dawgs247 that Will Muschamp will step in as an on-field assistant coach for UGA.

Personal issues? His bio is still on the UGA site.

The story mentions the possibility of Muschamp shifting to an on-field role with Cochran gone. I think I’d be good with that.

The terseness of Kirby’s response isn’t great. More information is usually better.

  11. Hopefully, Cochran takes care of whatever is going on and gets back with the program as soon as he is able. Having Muschamp ready to assume some on-field responsibilities is a good thing.

If the US can forgive Wernher von Braun then we can forgive ol Boom. But I’ll never forget the shit he spewed from his cockholster as FU head corch.

Agree, RangerRuss Muschamp went over the line at the Bullgator meetings. I get the “I am thrilled to finally be a Gator ” stuff; that is him having to get support from boosters. But what he said was unnecessary. I haven’t forgiven him but I want his new employer to succeed so he is now our asshole.

I’m still trying to get over Will getting toasted badly by Curtis Brown in tuscaloosa in 1994.

Boom coaching special teams? Boom had QBs playing tight and making mistakes. I hope he doesn’t mess up kickers who are often times head cases.

        • I imagine one of the other defensive coaches with ST experience is going to fill in for Cochran with Muschamp taking on a position role.

Re: kickers, I imagine Kirby has Kevin Butler on speed dial. It ain’t far for KB to get to Athens from Duluth.

        Ranger,
Excellent analogy! Wernher earned his redemption by getting us to the moon first. Now it’s Boom’s turn to earn forgiveness. I’m with you I’ll never forget what he said accepting the FU job. Agent Muschamp still has some plaining to do.

I think the “Cochran to UGA could be the death knell for Saban’s program, Kirby’s five-fingered death punch” narrative will get some comment, but my ‘Bama friends never had any issues with Cochran personally. Just the way his move to Athens got the Standard Off-Season Breathless Hyperbole.

Having said that I’m done with talking season, can September 4th be this Saturday please? I just want to watch the Dawgs destroy someone at this point and Clemson is first on the schedule…

So now I get to spend August wondering if Will Muschamp has any idea how to coach special teams. Fun.

Why can’t we have nice things?
