Two of the bigger debates that have cropped up in my Twitter feed over the past week are (1) who is and who isn’t a DGD; and (2) whether Alabama or Oklahoma gets to take credit for Jalen Hurts.
I should probably go back to bed now.

“We remember the Sugar Bowl, I think it my junior year of high school, we let Alabama beat us twice,” Brinson said of a team that also lost to the Crimson Tide in the SEC Championship game. “We’re not letting Alabama beat us twice. In the Sugar Bowl in 2018, they… thought they should have been in the playoffs and lost to Texas.” -- AB-H, 12/27/23

We’re headed there 1st of May along with Paris, Bucharest and Bulgaria. I fully intend to spread #GoDawgs around Europe. First stop will be to carve our winning scores over ND on the renovated doors of the cathedral so that history is preserved for the ages.

If you carve that, FPD? Your status as a DGD will never be in question.
I’d call you a hero.
Pics or it didn’t happen.

I would imagine it is a very good thing then, Senator, that you probably are not reading the college football subreddit on Reddit, r/CFB. Those Twitter discussions seem high-minded by comparison.

Earlier in the season, that sub was taken over by Tennessee fans posting shit about Hooker and playoff aspirations on a daily basis. It warms my heart to see zero of it on the front page now.

This DGD discussion is based on what is Mitchell’s legacy at UGA after his decision to go to Texas. It’s definitely a personal criteria when throwing that term around. I’ll admit I have a high standard for that designation personally.

Hard concur – its difficult to put someone in the top tier when they leave for a competitor…. He’s a good player, appreciate all he did and hope it works out the best for him. Plus there’s a chance Texas is back (again) next year and we meet up with them, and now everyone who’s crowned him treats him like a heel, which isn’t good for anyone IMO….

I compare him with Dom Blaylock. Dom fought through 2 injuries, kept working and playing and is supposed to graduate in May before transferring. He goes down as a DGD in my book. Mitchell was a clutch player for us, but this decision to me keeps me from using the term for him. Of course, YMMV.

Which, in my useless opinion, is what colors my thoughts on the other “debate”. Hurts graduated from Bama, was a grad transfer to OU. As far as I’m concerned he’s a Bammer first. For what little that’s worth…

I agree with that.

Here a good one to ponder – How can Steston not have a 4 year degree yet? He’s been in school long enough to have a phd.

Changed his major twice- from Philosophy to History and then from History to Economics. Plus the JUCO credits he earned did not count in Athens. Add to that he likely takes a minimum load in the fall (as did I when I was a scholarship athlete).

Hell, he could be in post doctoral studies now.

Senator, you could expand the blog to cover UGA’s other great sport where we excel….golf. 😜 Derek vs Corch over impact of the LIV tour will be lit.

If you follow any golf pages on social media, most of the commenters who support LIV are the worst. I don’t think I could spend 4 hours on the course with any of them.
Personally, I don’t care about LIV, but the whining from the players that the PGA Tour should ignore the membership agreements they signed, so they can play is ridiculous.

Jalen Hurts played for and won championships at Alabama. Crimson Tide fans claiming part of his NFL legacy as being Built By Bama (TM) is apples to oranges compared with Ohio State fans claiming any part of Joe Burrow’s just because he used to locker and shower there while watching other people play quarterback for the Buckeyes on Saturdays. Hilarious.

The DGD debate has been on my Twitter, too, and I’ve avoided it. I have my own personal standards for who I call a Damn Good Dawg – but if someone else’s standards aren’t the same as my own, why in the Hell am I going to reach out and try to shout them down about it? Jeez – people can have an opinion that’s different from my own about a player and their rightful place in the pantheon of those who have played all or part of their career at UGA.
