“Hope isn’t eternal.”

Welp, this came more quickly than expected.

Before the stadium had begun to empty, with the result of the game still in the air, Auburn lined up quarterback Holden Geriner for his first meaningful snap of any kind this season and tucked him behind tight end Brandon Frazier. There were just over five minutes remaining in the third quarter, and the score still tied at 14. The plan was a double pass, with the ball tossed backward to Geriner and he would find an open receiver deep downfield.

Except he only had one blocker, who was shoved out of the way immediately and Geriner was sacked on the trick play.

It set up third-and-19 still on the Ole Miss half of the field. Auburn ran up the middle with Jarquez Hunter and gained four yards. Punter Oscar Chapman ran on the field.

And it was in this moment that all the optimism that has characterized Auburn’s season thus far drowned into boos. The hope of Auburn fans had been exhausted. It appeared as a rock bottom.

It was the first time Auburn’s inept offense had been booed this season.

In that moment, the Hugh Freeze honeymoon ended.

Yeah, the personnel situation isn’t great.  But Freeze has this rep as an offensive guru that isn’t playing out on the Plains.

…  There is frustration from the fan base. Auburn’s offense is on pace to be historically bad.

Auburn has barely averaged more than 100 passing yards against SEC opponents. It’s the worst rate for Auburn this century.

And for all Hugh Freeze has talked about the talent gap Auburn has and the recruiting that still lies in the future, these repetitive failures of offense come down to coaching. Auburn made the same mistakes of alignment, protection, route running and simply poor quarterback play after a bye week where it planned to fix it.

The talent gap doesn’t cause Auburn to have 12 men in the huddle for a third down in the fourth quarter. Auburn was penalized twice for illegal substitutions. That’s coaching. And the fans noticed it.

Auburn’s passing offense was already ranked among the 10 worst in the nation before another bad day Saturday. Auburn had 122 total passing yards but 47 of them came on a dump-off pass to running back Jarquez Hunter later in the fourth quarter.

Eh, that’s a real shame.

As dumb as CHF’s facial expressions normally look, he looked even dumber in the 4th quarter.

Will Hugh’s use of his granddaughter for that “feel good” espn segment even out the whole hoo’er controversy?

Am I the only one who feels that Freeze physically looks terrible on the sidelines? He looks like he’s aged 10 years since last fall this time at Liberty, and stress seems to have taken a toll on him.

Not sure if Hugh can turn things around there but AU is in a tough spot with Texas and OU coming in. They are going to drop further in the pecking order and will have trouble being successful moving forward.

That was pure B.S. statement that the barners could count 12 players in the huddle, the world knows tigle fan has issues with counting digits on this hand , then changing hands to continue counting digits….the cesspool at low tide, only a mother could love it, as her offspring crawled from under a rock…#AUBURN SUCKS!!

I could have been an honest mistake. Just like 10RC, more than a few of them probably have 6 fingers on each hand after multiple generations.

Coming into this season, since 2017, they were 19-23 in conference play. So far this year, they are 0-4 in conference play, with Mississippi State at home, Vandy away, Arkansas away, and Alabama at home. If they find a way to split those two, they will be 21-29 since 2017, when they paid Gus $21.7MM to walk away. Just makes you all warm inside doesn’t it…

Speaking of dumpster fires, did you guys see Michigan St’s pre-game trivia segment that managed to be even more embarrassing than the ass kicking Michigan gave them? Almost makes Auburn look respectable.

Sleeze has a major rebuild job, and I just don’t see how he does it squeezed between the 2 recruiting juggernauts of the sport. You hate to see it.

Well if anyone in the SEC can buy a team it’s Auburn. They have had years of practice and now it’s legal. Ole Hugh couldn’t raise the Titanic screw up of Harsin in just one year. It takes time and money to get them back but I see this as a match made in hell.
    I never cared for Auburn.

  16. The SZD guys have talked about this before. Freeze is massively overrated as an offensive mind. His OM offense was ridiculously simple, they just won a disproportionate amount of 50/50 plays vs Bama and it made it look like he was a genius.

Regression to the mean and everything.

A few more losses line this might cause Auburn fans to suddenly “discover” some of Hugh’s past indiscretions aren’t so easy to ignore anymore.

Hell, those inmates got what they wished for…
All I heard from the urnge crowd was “I’m so freaking proud of my Tigers” and “Dawgs in Auburn not barking now, they are recovering from a hard fought game.”
    To which I replied…
“Hell naw, we’re barking! Anytime we go to the prison yard and whup y’all 17-3 in the last nine minutes, we barking LOUD!”
    And then axed the question…
“When did y’all’s program sink to cheering a loss and calling it a moral victory??”
Then I had to twist the knife….
“Ole Pat Dye is rolling over in his grave!!”
    Feel like axing them now…
Y’all feeling better after loosing to Old Mississippi??”

To their credit (or discredit), their fans filled the stadium to watch a team with an unwatchable offense suffer its fourth loss.
