“We got one.”

There are times when it seems like Todd Gurley has more faith in Todd Gurley than his coaches do.

Tennessee keyed on the superstar tailback, loading the box from the start. At first Georgia tried to make up for it via the pass, but with that mostly a struggle, the strategy turned to just giving the ball to him, hoping he would finally break one.

Gurley said he told Lorenzo Carter, Georgia’s freshman outside linebacker, “We’re gonna get it sooner or later, we’re gonna break one. We’ve just gotta be patient.”

He finally did, breaking a 51-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter to make it 28-17.

“We got one,” Gurley said.

Hell, let him call the plays.  He’s pretty much doing everything else on offense right now.

Without Gurley, and to a lesser degree Chubb and Michel, our offense would be dead in the water…All those who wanted HM to replace AM…how do you like him now? Not a knock on Hutson. Hes just nowhere near the same level.

If Gurley goes down, that is game over. Teams will just blitz us to death. They know Mason sucks, hell I wonder if he could hit a wide open receiver some times.

I remember this one QB who all the pundits said sucked, but was able to make some great throws and was surrounded by a crappy D.

I re-watched a little of last year’s Tech game last night. Mason looked like a different QB. At one point in the second quarter he threw a deep out to Conley right on the nose, about a 15 yard gain but one of those “not everyone can do this” throws. Rod Gilmore said it was an “NFL throw” and that word in the program had been that Mason’s arm was stronger than Murray’s.

        What happened to that guy?

Can someone explain why we have Gurley on the sidelines so much? I get the rest thing, but he doesn’t head to the sidelines when he is wore out. It’s like it’s part of the balance thing.

There are times when I have asked the same question. But you know, his 4th quarter performances against Clemson and Tennessee just might demonstrate that at least that part of the game plan is right on. He has really taken advantage of being relatively fresh late in the games. Two amazing 4th quarters.

  4. Has every Dawg fan in America other than me lost their mind, or am I the crazy one? I hear all this complaining about Bobo this and receivers that, but not a damn peep about this defense.

We scored 35. With a qb that couldn’t start at cheerleading camp. And almost lost because our defense can’t stop a ball from rolling uphill.

    Not a peep. So weird.

Can’t speak for the rest, but I feel like Pruitt inherited a mess and is making the best of it. The front 7 are good and the secondary is dreadful. Also, Pruitt schemes like crazy to bring some pressure, so I feel like he is doing all he can.

Spence, don’t know if you’ve noticed, but this defense is getting better by the game. Sure, the secondary gets stung, but that’s going to happen some. The pass rush is much improved from the first of the season. It’s gonna take time. Chill.

      • Brother I don’t disagree with anything you said. But it’s still a hot mess over half the time. All this whining about Bobo is like an AIDS patient getting furious over a cold. The cold isnt the problem.

I guess it’s just a matter of expectations, and there are none for the defense. But man Dawg nation has lost perspective.

Huh? The best pass rush we had was the Clemson game. Then nothing against USC, then finally a little better against UT. That’s not a trend of improvement, that’s no trend at all.

C-dawg, you got a pass rush against Clemson because they were or became one dimensional, allowing our defense to pin their ears back. And there is indeed an improvement since the debacle at USCe.

Replayed last night on Watch ESPN. Our pass rush was much better than I thought when I first watched. We got a lot of pressure, even on Worley. Just not enough sometimes.

Its been that way for several years. With a merely competent defense, we’d be dang near unstoppable.

Let Gurley call the plays? But Mike Bobo is the great offensive mind of our era! (GOMOOE)

    • So you’re going on record as anti Bobo?

I’d like to see a poll right now about what folks think. I swear over half of our fans think Bobo isn’t worth a shit. And that’s madness.

I’m with you, Spence. All these people still stewing over the 1st & Goal play! Sheesh! Frankly, letting Gurley have some input on what plays to run in that situation just may be a sign of brilliance. it obviously worked! But it would be too much for these folks to give credit (blame) unless it failed.

Spence, Bobo is a good OC who overthinks end-of-game situations and loses games because of it. When he stops doing that, and I really believe he will, he will become a great OC. He is learning, though. We would have lost the game yesterday except Bobo learned from what happened in Columbia and game it to Gurley when he needed to near the end instead of putting the game in Mason’s hands.

Yes, when do not have a rushing game and for damn sure we don’t have a passing game. We don’t have much of an offensive coaching staff.
We have Gurley. Everybody else is along for the ride.
They should be ashamed of themselves for Gurley carrying the load.
You can forget the passing game this year. It will not happen. First the OC. Second the QB, Third the WOs. Fourth don’t bank of Mitchell and Scott Wesley. Those guys have missed as much game time as Mason. Remember this is Mason’s first season in half a decade. Time is important. Well, hell, time is money.
What we learned yesterday, that the SEC East is truly a mediocre divison in the SEC. Every team in the West is better than the Dawgs.

Our defensive game plan and work in progess is good. But when will the LBs and the secondary start getting into the plays quicker. Stop watching.
Richt talks about separation for Dawgs receivers. No wonder they do poorly. When they practice against the secondary, they do not have to work for it. Case in poin,t both sides of the ball against UT.
No doubt Butch Jones, Willie Martinez, and Jancek would beat their wives and kids to beat the Dawgs. It is written all over their faces. They want to beat the Dawgs more than any team on their schedule.
I’d like to be a ref on the UT sideline. They got a 15 yarder for their “deamnor” yesterday. I’d just like to whistle Jones right out the game. Would not put up with his yelling and antics on the sidelines. He thiinks he is entitled to wins, plays, and calls. This guy has two distinct personalities. His one for the games is disgusting and shameful.

Agreed. Jones is a jackass on the sidelines and he should get flagged at least once a game. Muschamp Jr.

Agreed Will. Butch jones is a tool. He’s like Spurrier’s younger, dumber brother. It seemed like he was mad at the world from the very start of that game yesterday like he was mad that we didn’t just lay down and take a loss last year. I keep hearing that he needs a “signature win at Tennessee” and that’s often followed with, “he would like to make Georgia his signature win.” Big deal. People in hell want ice water. I can’t understand the push from media who cover the SEC to try and sell us all on the notion that this guy is somehow a much, much, much better coach than what his record suggests. I don’t buy it. And now we have yet another coach with a hard on for UGA.

It’s worse than that, Mike. He coaches dirty football. His players went at Gurley’s knees all game–all of them. Obviously they were told to do that. No wonder we had so many injuries last year–and Michel this year. The UT thugs were trying to injure our players.

CMB needs to make a couple tweaks if we’re gonna be a run-first-pass-second offense. First, us 2 WR sets so we get an extra blocker (TE, FB or HB) in there. Second, Gurley doesn’t need to be sidelined for such long periods. Keep him in the game as a decoy. Hell ut’s whole D was keyed on him.

From your mouth to CMR and CMB’s ears. RUN THE DAMN BALL but run it right. FB at QB in the shotgun with Gurley and Chubb on either side and IM in the slot. Now we could out Auburn Auburn. FB can throw enough to keep them honest and as you see at Auburn it doesn’t take a great thrower to win.

1st we have 5 guys on the line and two decide on any one play to wtch, why would you think another blocker would help?
2nd how do consistently use a rb as a decoy in a run first offense? He would be tired from helping the oline block, catching a pass out of the backield or running around getting tackled on a fake.
