He’s no fun, he fell right over.

Mike Slive plays the spoilsport:

Southeastern Conference Commissioner Mike Slive will have a captive audience of coaches and athletic directors when the league conducts its annual spring meetings in Destin, Fla., in two weeks.

Something about controlling the string on a purse bulging with close to $200 million to be doled out at the end of the week has a way of attracting a person’s undivided attention.

Word is that a central theme of Slive’s address — particularly to the league’s football coaches — will be this: Knock it off! Enough of the public and semi-private accusations of cheating and other misconduct aimed at fellow league coaches.

He can’t do that! What’ll we blog about in the offseason?

At least Slive could wait until after SEC Media Days to lower the Cone of Silence.

  1. He may unleash the cone of silence from inside the Circle of Trust. That’ll show ’em.

  2. Not worried. Kiff’s the main culprit and I doubt the kid’ll carry the capacity for true comprehension during what should be a riveting speech.

    For example, Slive says “We’re a community, a coaching fraternity that should avoid public harassment of each other” But Laney thinks to himself, or even mumbles out loud “…ummm…I like a good crunchy pickle.”

    This will be just like study hall for Lane.

    Slive should know that even if he put Lane inside a Hannibal Lecter cage (easily obtained from the Panama City bondage bar) at the Spring Meetings in Destin:

    Lane will still talk about what chianti and liver tastes like;

    Urban will still talk about the Cone of Silence and Circle of Trust being a bad deal for Urban and Urban will not forget it;

    Sabin will still talk about giving Lance Thompson the Memphis blues in Mobile in again;

    Richt will still talk about welcoming Lane to the SEC and not welcoming Sabin to the Georgia Dome;

    And every night as he drifts off to sleep, Slive will still talk to himself about hearing the sound of lambs crying. Or ewes bleating. Or pledges yelping during frat initiations.

    Slive could have handled this quietly by calling in the TN and Auburn ADs and talking with them about raising their hiring standards, or improving their interviewng skills. Prior to this season everyone was talking about how impressive the SEC coaches were. With two odd hires, the SEC now has fans all over the US, including the Southeast, laughing about how we are spending our new found TV money. With ten schools, everything still looks solid, but Chizik could be a surprise success in time…..Junior would be a true Hail Mary.
