Because they left the scooters at home, dude.

Today’s “surely you jest” question comes from cocknfire at Team Speed Kills, who asks

What are Georgia football players — or any other self-respecting people — doing riding in a taxi-van?

Sad to hear that some people went to a college where they don’t match heavy drinking with a long ride home in a crowded cab with a puke bucket in the back.

Sad thing is if theses alleged football players hadn’t gotten in the taxi-van they would have gotten a DUI or at least would have (((gasp))) emerged from an alley.

Because, that is “how we roll” in the new 3-4 defense. Taxi vans are fundamental to it’s sucess.

Because, unlike Columbia, we aren’t transported around town by mule-drawn hayride. I mean, seriously? They were (allegedly) in a cab because they didn’t want to get pinched for a DUI. Most cab companies in Athens use cab-vans so they can transport more people at a time, thus making more fares.

You fail at life, South Carolina.

I have a hard time taking this too seriously. It happened Sunday, got reported to the police Tuesday (why so long?) They say they are football players, but cannot identify them. If they can’t identify them, how can they know they are football players? Not saying something didn’t happen, but I don’t get the broad brush they want to paint the team with. Hope it turns out to be nothing.

This is an obvious case of wurstism. How do they know it wasn’t knockwurst or weiswurst?

    I love South Carolina

A program that will never, ever be worth a crap.

Them starting Garcia is so laughably bad that I can’t help but be thankful for them

You mean the same Garcia that torched us last year and looked like a Heisman candidate.

And although riding in a cab home instead of driving drunk is admirable, they(whoever they may be) loose all credibility when you slap a complete stranger up side the back of the head unprovoked. Not to mention the other part of the cab ride. really classy.

Of course if it happened that way.

Well if we made him look like a Heisman candidate, what did they make Cox look like? First round draft pick?

I love the “white racist” part. B/c only white folks can be racists.

To hell with those 4 thugs, whoever they may be.

Actually, though, I think these white people may actually BE racist. Why? Because they see four big black guys in Athens and assume they MUST be football players. Nobody has given us any reason to think these actually are four football players, other than the conclusory allegation of these people, without any support otherwise.

I’m pissed that beat reporters, bloggers, and especially Coach Richt have to deal with something that’s at best one step above a rumor.

My wife went to Wake Forest, and back when my 16 year old was a toddler, we had a couple of slightly embarrasing moments when he saw a tall black man in public and yelled “Tim Duncan!”.

            Ya gotta smile about that.

Why did they get dropped off at East Campus Village? I think that narrows the field. They weren’t tennis players.

BTW, for you old timers on here (looking at you SB!), East Campus Village is the modern day McWhorter. 🙂

I can’t imagine there are actually guys I am paying for to go to college who would do something like this, am I am not pointing fingers, but something stinks, and stinks BAD, about this. I am glad CMR is taking the approach he is, but somebody better be vindicated or kicked off the team. Our program will lose a TON of credibility if he doesn’t get to the bottom of this.

Lots of non-athletes live at East Campus — NCAA mandates at least half, I think.

I’m glad that all it takes for “the program to lose a bunch of credibility” is for some drunk guy getting pushed around in front of his girlfriend throwing out wild allegations. If he can make a credible allegation against a particular football player(s), based on something more than “black dudes who live at ECV,” get back to me.

Is there any other kind of taxi in Athens? I don’t remember seeing another one in my six years there.
