Get The Picture 
Delaware just eliminated its men’s track & field and cross country programs. Their admin blamed Title IX, but they’re losing money hand over fist in football (despite making the semi-finals in ’10).
While football makes non-revenue sports possible at a few places (Georgia, for example), at the vast majority of institutions it’s a huge hole sucking up athletic funding and forcing institutions to choose between breadth of programs and keeping football.

Hey HLV, track and field (and all the other “minor” sports) is just as important to the kids who do that as football is to the kids who play that.

My point is that lines have to be drawn somewhere. Why doesn’t UGA have a wrestling team? UGA discontinued the team while I was a high school wrestler. I was devast… well I didn’t care.
The community identifies a school with football and basketball. That is what makes the investment worthwhile.
Football = good and worth the money. All other sports are to balance footbal with title IX.

No offense HVL but that attitude is just pitiful–and is a big part of the problem with D-I athletics these days. I’m not sayin’ you aren’t right, though. The #1 booster of what you said above is Mike Slime. Everything is about the $$$$$$$ with him. We are so far away from what college athletics was intended to be it makes me want to vomit.

Well, it’s hard to think Adams could have been a worse president for the NCAA than Emmert, but I’m sure he would have given it his best.

I don’t see how Adams could have done a hell of a lot worse, and it would have gotten him out of Athens. Killed two birds with one stone, as it were.
