The NCAA prez politely suggests that DOJ is barking up the wrong tree.
The “cc: Mr. Bill Hancock” adds a nice touch, though.

“We remember the Sugar Bowl, I think it my junior year of high school, we let Alabama beat us twice,” Brinson said of a team that also lost to the Crimson Tide in the SEC Championship game. “We’re not letting Alabama beat us twice. In the Sugar Bowl in 2018, they… thought they should have been in the playoffs and lost to Texas.” -- AB-H, 12/27/23
That whole letter smacks of sarcasm & condescension………….and I love it. Emmert finally got something right.

It’s basically what Barnhart said without being funny.

I’d be happy if she just STFU and does nothing.

It’s not my specialty, of course, but I might have advised Emmert to answer the final question along the lines of “No determination has been made one way or the other by the Association, and in the absence of direction of the members to do so, no such determination will be made.” I think the answer given was non-responsive. Of course, he ain’t under subpoena, and he ain’t compelled to answer the questions at all.
But other than that, the letter rocks.

Barking up the wrong tree is about right. I am still surprised at how many people think the NCAA controls the BCS. The NCAA has plenty of problems, but the football postseason isn’t one of them.

While your point about the NCAA not having any authority/control over the BCS is true, postseason football is indeed a problem for the NCAA in the opinion of the majority of fans. Surprisingly, on this blog it isn’t, but the lack of a post-season is regarded as a substantial issue by many. Their inability to address it may result in them losing control of CFB one day, and I hope it isn’t long. The old CFA, or a successor to it, may make a comeback.

The NCAA could retake control of college football any time by simply announcing that there is now a playoff. The BCS would immediately become like the NIT in BB–out of business over night. I do not advocate this, however. Just making the observation.

I feel the the immortal words of Harry Dunne bear repeating here.
“Just when I thought you couldn’t possibly be any dumber, you go and do something like this… and totally redeem yourself!”
Thanks for at least getting one thing right in the past year, NCAA. Not sure if it makes up for all the other screwups, but it’s a start.

I think Mark Emmert has been reading GTP. A little h/t to the Senator, IMO.

I’ll have to compliment Emmert, he make an outstanding reply of BS to a government entity that specializes in BS. As many stated, finally a positiive from an office that has a surplus of negatives.
