Since we discussed hot weather games, I though it was appropriate to post this puppy:
A million suspensions, an opener on the road – and the Dawgs still killed ’em. Enjoy.

“We remember the Sugar Bowl, I think it my junior year of high school, we let Alabama beat us twice,” Brinson said of a team that also lost to the Crimson Tide in the SEC Championship game. “We’re not letting Alabama beat us twice. In the Sugar Bowl in 2018, they… thought they should have been in the playoffs and lost to Texas.” -- AB-H, 12/27/23
Nice quip by Richt during the quickie post halftime interview:
Q: Coach, are you worried about the effect of the heat on your players?
A: They can get hot after the game.

It sure would be nice to lay an ass whipping of this magnitude under a similar set of circumstances on Missouri on 9/8. I am ready.

Man, you sure said something there.

Yeah, would be nice to repeat history. DL is going to be the key. I am looking for a 5 sack day.

I always felt like the center for Clemson was playing for the Dogs. This was a hot game and they ran out of bottled water around half-time. The Bama game year before was darn hot as well.

I’ll never understand how you run out of bottled water at a game, but I was there and you’re right. What the hell? I also went with a friend to the Cal/UT game in Berkeley and the same thing happened.
Of course the outcome of both of those games made the lack of water more bearable.

Not only did they run out of bottled water, but they refused to serve any liquids at all after halftime in my section. They told me they were out of ice, and they shut the window and locked the thing. When I told them I didn’t want ice, just a cup full of water, coke, or anything they had, they told me no. That was bizarre to say the least.

They ran out of bottled water because Jack Arute’s segment at the 13:20 mark took 50 takes.

A friend of mine spent the summer of ’03 building a bar in his basement. To celebrate its completion, he had me over to watch the game & we decided to take a shot each time Georgia scored. This was in addition to, not in lieu of, the beer we were swilling off the kegerator he put in.
My wife drove me home.

The collective groan from Clemson fans when David Pollack intercepted that ball was awesome. It was like someone stole their rock.

Senator, there is a really high correlation between the Dawgs losing the season opener on the road and having a bad season. The best the Dawgs ever did when losing an opener in another team’s stadium was 2009 when the Dawgs went 8-5. If they win the game they have a good season but if they lose they go on to a bad season usually. Of course we had the opener last year at the GA Dome (a neutral site) which the Dawgs lost and they ended up winning the SEC East, but almost all the time, if you look at the entire history of UGA football, the Dawgs win 6 or less games when they start out losing on an opponent’s field.

Well, that would make sense…if we’re playing a season opener away from Athens, then we must be playing a relatively decent team, as we’re not going to travel to play a cupcake game. When we play at home, we’re generally beginning the season with a cupcake, so we’re more likely to win.

You missed the point. I agree with what you said but it is the effect on the team that the opening loss has that in year’s past has propelled the team to losing seasons that troubles me. Why risk it. Start the season at home with a cupcake and then play Clemson as the second game. And don’t give me that BS about scheduling. It’s difficult, sure, but that’s why we pay McGarity the big bucks–to find a way.

An amazing defensive effort considering all of the suspensions on defense. That game demonstrates why full contact scrimmages are so important. Injuries will happen but benefits far outweigh the injuries. After VanGorder left, we became more cautious in practices and lost our edge.

Man we need another Thomas Davis… Kid was an absolute missile!

Somewhat off-topic question. Here’s a game more or less fully accessible via YouTube, but has anyone purchased a full game from the SEC Digital Network? I’m wondering what the quality is like and if it’s only available streaming via something like Samsung SmarTV?

For all those people that were hot and thirsty, I’m sure it made you feel good to see the sideline reporter dump 2 gallons of water on the grass at the 13:40 mark.

Watching the old broadcasts just rings it up that much more clearly. This game in particular, with the bullshit Southern drawl…gawd. Almost as bad as Thom.
