Meanwhile in Tuscaloosa, a shocking development

Nope, not that four Alabama players were arrested on charges of second degree robbery yesterday, but that news of the arrests was made public.

Of course, for every door that closes on the team discipline front, another opens on the roster management side.

This Didn’t happen at UGA? Where players are thugs and coaches can’t control their team? This happened at the so called finest football program in the country where nothing bad happens ever because the coaches are hard nosed assholes?

Difference between Bama and UGA is that at Bama you have 2 studs competing with you for your job, so you as a player better perform or it’s no skin off the program’s back to bench you or kick you to the curb. Meanwhile at UGA we couldn’t find a tailback to save our lives in 2011.

Except for the one that received SEC Freshman of the Year. You almost got that right. Don’t let Crowell’s bone-headedness make you forget that the kid was a good running back, and he did much of it dinged up the entire year. He was no Gurley, but he was as good as Hampton or Hearst was their true freshmen seasons, and that’s saying something.

Not saying Crowell wasn’t a factor when he was available to play. However, we as a team faced a significant drop off when he wasn’t, that’s all I’m saying.

Kicking college students to the curb is not something to be proud of, for what it’s worth

+1. Kicking anyone to the curb, whether it be a student, an employee or anyone else is not something to be proud of.

True and I don’t think anyone is happen to see things like this happen.

On the flip side if the kids know actions like these will result in being kicked off the team, they are less likely to break the rules.

so now he only has to cut 6 players. good for Saban.

    • Yes, just one way for Saban to clean his roster of underperforming athletes for incoming freshmen. I am not surprised at all. Just very creative. Bama as usual.

These SEC West guys are poseurs – the pistol still had a serial number, the credit card probably belonged to someone not dead, the getaway car was not a Prius and no scooters were involved

  9. Amazing that it wasn’t starters. Sooner or later folks will realize that it’s not a coincidence. They will ask…how did the cops know to stop this car vs all the others on the road. That is true roster management at its finest.

Huge fan of the Georgia Sports Blog so I hold your opinion in high regard. Do you really feel like Saban orchestrated an arrest in this case? I can totally see him not doing the protective measures once the arrest occured that he would for a starter/key contributor. But the bad publicity from an incident like this surely wouldn’t be worth actually setting up an arrest of this nature would it? Interested in what others think…

        1. What makes you think this person actually represents the Georgia Sports Blog? Do you really think I represent the University of Alabama Athletic Association?

        2. It’s likely that his comment was made with tongue firmly placed in cheek.

Rolltide: he probably thinks the guy represents Georgia Sports Blog because the name up there is in hypertext and links to that blog. Blue lettering.

Undoubtedly the comment, about the cops picking a car full of backups, is tongue in cheek. Only the most wacked out conspiracy theorist, like me, thinks Tuscaloosa is gamed that bad. 😉

And for one of the four, Eddie Williams: It was the second trip to jail for Williams this week. Tuscaloosa police charged him with carrying a pistol without a license on Sunday. Details about that case will be released soon, a TPD spokesman said Tuesday morning. Good thing he wasn’t emerging from an alley. He’d be in some real trouble then.

Somebody cross check those names against the projected depth at their positions. That’ll tell you whether they stay or go.

Always important to be top ranked in every category.

Seriously, these incidents occur on every campus, with every team. The difference is how they get manipulated, we saw State Penn and tosu’s way this past year. Think other issues haven’t been swept under the rug for decades on those campuses? If you will cover up child rape to protect the football reputation, what have they buried at State College for decades?

Sad to see regardless of where these situations happen. College football and basketball are so significant financially that we ignore the “student” portion of student-athletes. Notice how few issues you have with baseball, golf, gymnastics, etc.? There is a message there. Set up a “minor league” system of regional teams for those coming out of HS who have no interest in academics nor being a part of the campus environment. Square peg, round hole. Let the NFL pay to develop the non-qualifiers, CFB will be still be competitive, even if played by lesser athletes.

Kids that are at risk or in trouble in HS are advised to play sports and to turn their lives around by attending college. Ever since Marlon Brando it has been cool to be the “bad boy”. Unfortunately, this culture takes it way beyond motorcycles, leather jackets and loud music.

Are scooters “way beyond motorcycles”? Boy, hog partisans are gonna be after you. BTW, I really have no problem with young people who want a 2nd chance to get on board the “life express”, my issue is with those who come to campus for the sole purpose of going pro while hanging with the HS buds and never attempting to benefit from the atmosphere of students/adults who want to step forward.

It’s probably the most embarassing misbehavior by any program’s players (Penn St doesn’t count since that was administrator/coach misbehavior) since Tennessee’s finest decided to stick up customers at a Pilot station.

I will see your uT bandits and raise you a couple of rogue barners hitting the residents of a trailer park high on synthetic brownies.

Nice. I had forgotten about that one.

But, I still think the uT bandits were more embarassing b/c they chose a Pilot station. In addition to being a serious felony, it was also a huge slap in the face to one of the school’s biggest and most faithful donors over the years; the CEO of Pilot has always been a huge uT donor.

The athletic budget at Bama must be real tight for players to have to steal credit cards.
Eddie Williams and Isiah Crowell will soon open their own firing range.
Alabama State and some small community college in the mide west with no athletic or recruting budget look forward to the post recruiting season. That wait for this to happen. They do not have to recruit, they just wait for the arrests, dismissals, and transfers. Three out of the four will be at Auburn in two years. Most of these guys knew each other and played together in high school. Go their separate ways afterwards to a major D1 program but end up back together again.
Someone [as they usually would] posted these guys probably spent more time in jail than class time. Who cares. They can play football. And if your alma mater went 0-11, 1-10, 2-11…well you could care less what they did, but it should be an opportunity for your coach to fill the roster.
Culture of college football. Exciting. And we only thought the last play of the game was for that.

Hope somebody (SEC or NCAA) looks into how three “Student-Athletes” that had to rob for food could afford the bail in just under 4 hours. Last time I checked it was 10% cash and each had a 60 to 65 thousand dollar bail. $6,ooo just fail out of the sky, oh my.

I want to know why Eddie Williams’ arrest on gun charges was not publicly known yesterday. Is there an effort to keep these things quiet diwn there? I think we knew about crowell’s gun arrest immediately. I wonder if there are any other arrests that have been kept quiet. Someone ought to check.

I was sorta shocked when a friend told me about these arrests this afternoon since everyone from the governor to the police chief to the local magistrate are part of “the process”. Same shit used to go down in gainesville but it ended, although they still have Huntley Johnson.

You mean to tell me that in 6 years that Saban has been at Bama that these are some of the first arrests made public? That is fucking bullshit and this program stinks to high heaven.
