Oh, it’s on now.

This financial aggression will not stand, man.

The Big Ten Conference’s financial supremacy was on display again Wednesday when the league’s latest federal tax return reported record revenue and the largest single-year compensation figure ever for a conference commissioner.

You can feel the egos seething, can’t you?

The Big Ten, which increased its annual revenue by more than $50 million in 2012, had total revenue that was $42 million more than the Southeastern Conference reported for a fiscal year ending Aug. 31, 2012.

The tax return, provided by the Big Ten Conference in response to a request from USA TODAY Sports, showed commissioner Jim Delany being credited with more than $2.8 million in compensation for the 2011 calendar year.

In case you’re wondering, yeah, that’s about $1.2 million more than Slive received.

Gee, I guess we know what one hot topic in Destin will be now.

Conference competition is starting to resemble the cold war. They won’t actually engage us on the battlefield, but perhaps we can wage a propaganda war and outspend them into economic ruin.

Too bad Caspar Weinberger isn’t still around to help out.

This. Advantage in $$$ has to make the knife turn a little more when there are all those crystal footballs in the Southland.

Jim is 1.75 times the man that Slive is but according to the related story, Ratface* is 3.5 times the man that Jim is and 6 times the man that Slive is. That’s a credit to the Order of Rodentia

I wonder when the SEC Presidents are going to finally tire of Slive. The truth is he was just in the right place at the right time to claim success for the SEC’s accomplishments–he didn’t cause them. The fact that an inferior conference has better deals and makes a barrel full more money than the SEC should open up somebody’s eyes to Slive not being the magician he pretends to be. This latest SEC-CBS “renegotiation” is Exhibit “A.” Slive is like the chicken who crows then claims he caused the sunrise.
