This time, the NFL is serious.

Yeah, this’ll fix everything.

The NFL is considering not inviting players who are academically ineligible in college to the scouting combine, a league source told CBSSports.com.

The move is being discussed because of the increased scrutiny on the maturity and commitment of the prospects entering the NFL, the source said, adding that if this measure was in place in 2013, a sizable group of players would not have been invited to Indianapolis for the combine.

But they still would have been eligible for the draft.  And, presumably, for private workouts for whatever teams wanted to see them beforehand.  Which makes it little more than some ineffective ass covering when the NFL gets asked about the next Hernandez.

Honestly, this sounds like something Mark Emmert would dream up.  Is stupidity contagious?

All this means is that they’ll try even harder to avoid any coursework of serious rigor.

And an agent will have the pleasure of repping the responsibility-immatures to private previews to the equally irresponsible owners who know the crowds want to see the animals loosed into the modern Coliseum. Highest to go will be those college failing thugs who don’t value their own lives much less other’s lives. After the NFL has finished with them, they can get more crowds at top dollar to watch two opposing team’s animals, given sword and shield, where one bids farewell in a human version of a cockfight.

Kin of…except the participants weren’t paid hundreds of millions of $. It may be more akin to modern boxing or fighting. I’ve heard (but I don’t know) that most of the famous old boxers went into their old age penniless.

  4. Stupidity is hierarchical, the higher you rise, the more out to touch you become. Or worse, the more out of touch you are, the higher you rise. Damn, that’s a scary thought.

You came very close to getting me started on the state of public education. However, I restrained myself. Guess I’ll look around for an education blog to post on.
