Well, next time Murray gets hit dirty he needs to stay down for awhile rather than pop back up like he usually does. Let the refs look at the JumboTron, get an earfull from the fans for a while, hear a little from the coaches and then talk to each other. THEN get up Aaron.

They need to have the head officials all get together and review those plays so their is no doubt about what constitutes a hit that deserves ejection and what doesn’t.

That would require that there is some objective criteria by which to make that determination, which as far as I can tell there is not.

I think there is a video review rule in place, that way they can confirm the hit was above the chest? Man, I just think this rule is bad news all around. And it keeps reminding me of the Okie State game which still pisses me off just as much today as it did when it happened.

Worst call in that game, and definitiely the game changer, was the first down OSU was given on the goalline. Replay showed it was over a full yard off on the mark. That is when I knew that game was destined to be in the loss column for us. Impossible to miss that maek that far. Unfortunately, the PF penalty for high hits is missed that badly all the time.

+1, Mac. The goal line situation you described was on 4th down, too. The Dawgs’ D held. Instead of 1st down for Georgia going the other way the crooked Big 12 refs gave Okie State a first and goal from inside the 1, basically handing them a TD. Almost made me puke.

The Senator was correct when I brought up the game. NCAA wont be a part of the game. CLC. or Collegiate Licencing Company which holds the membership of 100 plus schools renewed its contract. It’ll be the same minus the name.

Since I’m not playing, I want Clowney out there. I wouldn’t look forward to SS and the cockamaniacs whining about “what would have been” for the next five years. Steve would probably complain that the game should have been canceled or postponed…or that Georgia suspend Murray for balance.

I just watched the hit a dozen times and I just don’t see anything dirty about it. He was untouched coming off the los and the running back just kind of stood up as he was getting the ball handed to him. It was a clean hit. Helmet come off all the time now anyway. I think people are taking this too far…talking about ejection for this kind of hit…It’s football and it caused a turnover…the guy was holding the ball….you get hit when you do that.

This is some serious shit rule changing. The kickoff rule proved to be great and I didn’t read many objections before it was implemented. This is different. It’s the play of the game, the sway to it’s attraction for many, the core of the game. This isn’t spearing and deserves to be treated differently. It would be better if we all began to chime in early as we did on the recruiting changes.
If the interpretation of this rule would prohibit excellent and clean tackling to prevent catastrophe for the defender’s side, there is going to be some howling beginning with the first game of implementation and when the balance of a game is decided by such a rule. It should be quenched before we get any further.

This ACC official picked the wrong hit to comment on. If he wanted to comment on a non-ACC call, it should have been the hit on Murray in the SECCG. THAT one was ejection worthy.

I’ve been gone for a while. What is the alleged infraction in the Clowney hit? Is it because it was helmet to helmet because if that is the infraction they are going to be ejecting all defensive players who are tackling a running back who has lowered his helmet Are they saying that all defenders have to absorb the hit as opposed to lower their own helmet to try and get under the impact and take out the runners legs. The unintended consequences of calling the game this way will,in fact fundamentally change the game. Me no likey

We all heard a lot of talk about TMatthews wreaking havoc in the secondary during spring practice. I believe the quotes were similar to “he had people scared of him”. This rule change really worries me now that we could have a headhunter at safety again (i’m thinking like Blue or Davis).
On the other hand… if a defender can no longer lower his head to tackle, I am REALLY excited about Gurley’s prospects in year two. Any power RB has got to have an advantage if a defender is worried about helmet location instead of just instinctively playing them game.
