New meme takes root.

When you’ve got Chris Low asking “When’s the last time the fans really mattered?” in the context of the new SEC schedule rule, I’d say the house line at ESPN indicates your broadcast partner isn’t very impressed with your work, Mike Slive.

    It’s gotta be a nine-game conference schedule. Sadly,judging from the amount of bitching and whining coming out of Joe Alleva and LSU (which is apparently now ground zero for cowardice in the conference) I think you’re going to have a tough time convincing the pantywaists in this league to play another tough game. I’d love to see the line of SEC athletic directors queuing up at Kansas or Wake Forest to schedule games to satisfy the new OOC game requirement.

      Nothing would make the talking heads happier than a 2 loss SEC champ most years. 9 games is likely to make that a reality. Too much parity and excellence in the SEC. When the SEC schedule rankings fall out of the top 10 vis a vis the other 4 pantsywaists. – then go to 9.

        Agreed, 9 games will give the media the excuse to drop SEC teams out of the playoff. If the SEC teams schedule games against contenders in other power conferences, it will give the SEC the strength to remain fighting for national titles. Clemson is a contender in the ACC. West Virginia who Bama plays is a strong Big12 team.

        Slive and the SEC did the absolute best thing possible and if it stays the same I fully support the decision to go to 14.

      The pantywaists want to be paid. When the networks make it clear that forgoing the ninth conference game will cost the conference $X million per year, with X being a large enough number, we will see a nine game schedule because it was just the right thing to do for the players and the fans.

        Winner, winner, chicken dinner – Disney and ESPN through its talking heads is trying to pressure the SEC into the 9th game for no additional money. Chris Fowler led the charge yesterday with his “not singling out” tweet. Low has joined the chorus along with others at the WWL.

    It will come down to the individual teams. If UGA gets to that point in the discussion, they will look at their schedule…not the schedule of Ole Miss for 2010.

    I’m looking over there at Ohio State and wondering when their schedule starts to catch up with them? Never? Or just when they play Mark Dantonio’s team?

    Won’t the winner of the SEC have played nine conference games? The same number as the complaining PAC-12?

      Using your rationale, the PAC-12 has a conference championship game meaning the PAC-12 champ will play 9 regular season conference games plus the PAC-12 Conference Championship game for a total of 10 conference games. Same with the ACC and B1G. The Big-12, however, has no championship game so even with their 9 game conference schedule the Big-12 champ will play the same number of conference games as the SEC champ–9.
