Playing the Dangerfield card

I know Hutson Mason shuts out the Intertubes as he prepares for this season, but, damn, if a guy can’t get motivated by being ranked the ninth-best quarterback in the conference in an on-line piece (hardly a unique preseason opinion), behind Jeff Driskel and a couple of programs that haven’t even named a starter yet…

  1. Hudson will do just fine if we can keep his jersey clean.

Agree. HM will be no worse than 2 best of the East, perhaps behind only the Mizou QB. Driskel is still living on HS ranking. And for the west QBs, with the exception of the Ole Miss guy, the high ranking is based largely on the rushing yards they will rack up. HM will probably finish in top 3 of SEC in passing yards.

Nick Marshall as #1? Down year for QB’s is an understatement…

The dawgration of Mason is a microcosm of the treatment Georgia gets from idiots who write sports articles based on feelings instead of research.

  4. I’ll take our guy right now over anyone listed on that list above him including Auburn Thief II. Mauk might be the only one who I would say right now is a better alternative in our offense. If the o-line plays well and the running game does what we think it will, we’ll be fine.

I think Mason is very pedestrian, an Achilles heal even. Staff relied on Murray too much and failed to develop a stud replacement.

The opinion on Mason seems to stretch from hopelessly dull to brightly sparkling, with the media (and a fair share of Dawg people) seemingly more inclined toward the former. I think either extreme is unlikely, which then tells me that if Mason is adequate, we should be fine. And my sense is that he’ll turn out to be more than adequate. Best in the SEC? It won’t matter as long as his team can claim that title. A Tee Martin reprisal in Red & Black would be a fitting reward for Hutson’s having waited his turn.

The write up on Coker is typical media speak … We are all talking about him & his old coach said good things about him & since he plays for Bama we hype him and thus anoint him one of the best.

As for Driskel, his supposed 70% completion ranking was based on 61 pass att in really 2 games and 1/3 of those came against Toledo … Even still he had more INTs than TDs.

  8. I might be wrong, but I wouldn’t trade Hutson Mason for any QB in the SEC right now.

You must consider the source. Fox Sports is almost as bad as their joke of a news division.
