Tennessee chooses its quarterback.

Just as a refresher, here are the passer ratings for the three kids that took snaps last season for the Vols and were in the running for the starting position in 2014:

  • Justin Worley – 117.39
  • Josh Dobbs – 103.28
  • Nathan Peterman – 42.53

So, in fairness to Butch Jones, it’s not like he had a lot of attractive options picking this year’s starter.  Worley, it was announced yesterday, retained that position.  And of course they’re gonna say stuff like this:

“We challenged them about a week and a half ago across the board to play with more consistency, and since then they’ve all stepped up their level of play,” Bajakian said. “At this point, Justin is playing the best football he’s played since we’ve been here. He’s earned the job, and obviously they compete on a daily basis and will continue to do so.”

Bajakian said Worley is “hitting on all cylinders right now,” and QB1 said he goes into this season feeling “completely different” than he did this time a year ago.

“His timing and rhythm’s outstanding right now,” Bajakian said. “His anticipation, he’s throwing guys open. His ball location and accuracy is on point. The combination of all that is important in this offense.

“On top of that, and this is something that he’s really challenged himself with, he has stepped up as a leader since the end of last season. He’s made his presence felt, and I think his teammates look at him as a leader.”

That’s quite a different tune than the one Bajakian was singing less than a week ago.  Worley must’ve had a helluva week since.

Jones has recruited well, but between this, completely green lines and the schedule, I’m having a really hard time seeing how UT claws its way to bowl eligibility this season.

Ahh, that’s so sweet. Pay no attention to the trenches. Fulmer’s secret to success was year in and year out he whupped buttocks on the LOS. W/o experience and depth there, life is tough in the SEC baby. Butch finds out in 2014 that coaching, skill players, and organization only go so far in the S E C. Just a fact of life.

Butch PLEASE! That O line is the mortar that is missing from Butch’s brick by brick rebuilding project. I think Bluto is right. The toothless ones will have a 4th consecutive year without a bowl. After all the carnage in Knoxvegas the payback will be fun to watch!

Sounds like Butch has decided to make lemonade coming out of camp.

He’ll have a breakout game near the end of September, if the cycle holds true.

As down as UT has been, we haven’t taken the opportunity to crush them like we should. Tho would be a good year to let that happen.

This “article” is now up at AJC’s UGA page. Maybe the good Senator will soon replace Bradley and Shultz!

Got to get a better byline, though..

  5. Tennessee will be lucky to win 6 games this year, and Worley beating out Dobbs has to be concerning for its staff. If Dobbs doesn’t hit, Butch is going to be in some trouble moving forward. He’s supposed to be the QB of the future.

  6. Remember when that team was good? Yea it sucked getting shoved around at the line of scrimmage when you are so hyped about your chances we had flashy skill position guys.

That program continues to be a warning to all that think it would be easy to replace Richt.

Looking at their schedule at first guess I’m at 4-7. I imagine they’ll get a break somewhere, but how many can they really catch?

Beat UGA and Ole Miss and you’re still at 6-6. But I guess when you’re on the bottom, everything is lookin’ up.
