Defensive dominance, in one tweet

This pretty much says it all.

Okay, so fill in the blank:  “yesterday’s defensive performance was Georgia’s best since _____________”.

Seriously though, Pruitt has proven he is the real deal. I think if you told any other DC in the country that you were going to cut 8 of their DBs, they would have told you they quit.

Instead, week after week, and cut after cut, Pruitt has them playing better and better. I can only imagine when Pruitt gets his type of players and gets them trained.

Watching the highlights last nite, there were a lot of open receivers, however, the DL had so much pressure, that Mauk did not have time to see those 3-4 progression guys who were starting to run free.

That’s what I thought, too. This defensive shut-out is mainly due to the play of the D-line and LBs. The DBs played great also, though.

    • This was Pruitt’s 6th different DB combination of the season to start the game. Brandon Langley got the start and I thought he played a fine game. As long as our front 7 can get disruptive pressure on the QB our D will be fine. Pruitt clearly out coached his Mizzou counterpart. I didn’t see a single pass play that exposed our ILB’s in the middle of the field. Other teams have been torching Herrera deep in the middle.

Inserting Langley at CB and Moving Swan to the nickel was brilliant. At least that’s what it looked like Pruitt did. Langley has more speed than Swan and is better suited for press man coverage. Swan has a better head for the game and the nickel puts him in better position to read the offense.

  7. Hate to sound this old, but definitely the ’80s.

  8. While the secondary has got a long way to go, I’m amazed at how much better their technique is compared to last year. Their tackling is much better, and they drop 2 of those interceptions in 2013.

dunno if it was better, but I did enjoy the ’88 game against the urnge in Athens with a Bill Goldberg-lead goal line stand.

yesterday was also quite a testament to recruiting. 4th string TB totin’ the rock better than 40 times.

Chubb & Michel are going to be quite a duo next year. Along with Ramsey, Blazevich, Mitchell, Davis, JSW, McKenzie, Williams, Towns…a lot of talent will be in place.

Auburn 06 (Battle’s interceptions) or LSU 04. Great win yesterday. The effort, focus, coaching and play was amazing. I hope we can keep it up in the coming weeks. I am so proud to watch my team, our team, when they tackle and play with such passion.

Bill Stanfill and Jake Scott. Oh, and a certain DC named Erk. But I seem to be doggoned older than Doggoned.

“A native of Cairo, Ga., Stanfill first put his name on the football map in Georgia’s 27-10 upset of previously unbeaten Florida in 1966. Then a sophomore, Stanfill led the Bulldogs’ all-out rush on UF quarterback Steve Spurrier, sacking him twice and hitting him repeatedly after many of his passes. Though Spurrier went on to win the Heisman Trophy, the memory of Georgia denying the Gators their first SEC title and overcoming a 10-3 halftime deficit still [pisses Spurrier off].”

“’If I wasn’t sacking [Spurrier], I was knocking him down. He just didn’t have time to throw.’”

    Speaking of “since”…

Tomorrow will be the 2 year anniversary of Arkansas’ last conference win. They’ve lost 15 in a row since then.

Wondering if this is a sign of major improvements or a function of the team we were playing and the kind of day they were having. We looked pretty amazing in the second half against Clemson too and that was a lot of shaky defense ago. That said, I’m optimistic that we’re really trending up. And I sure enjoyed what I saw yesterday regardless of what’s to come next.

I really believe that the Georgia D turned a corner yesterday. With that performance they proved to the world, but more importantly IMHO to themselves, what they are capable of achieving. If Pruitt and the other defensive coaches can get the D to perform like that the rest of the season Georgia will likely win out and play in Atlanta. Everyone is so enamored with the teams in the SEC West. The Georgia team I saw yesterday beats any team in the SEC West.

Don’t remember statline details, but Auburn 2012 was a shutout I think, and 2006 was great too. We beat S Carolina 18-0 a while back, and we beat Clemson 30-0 on the road the start the season in 2003ish, and I remember us beating Mississippi State 47-0 somewhere back then too (2000ish +/- 3 yrs). We played Kentucky at home in 2000 I think and sacked Dusty Bonner about 137 times in my recollection.

2007 Sugar Bowl was fun too 🙂

Another game on the road to provide a different challenge to the defense. Hogs can move the ball on the ground, but they threw 40 passes against Bama. And they looked efficient at times.
This will be the D’s toughest challenge to date. Physical and back to back on the road. Could be good if there is not a lot of news distraction to the players about yesterday’s game and Gurley situation.
Do not recall ever seeing a QB put as much zip or speed on this passes as Maulk. Should give up football and look at pitching in baseball.
Now what were those comments earlly in the season about Pruitt? Think anytime a team can put a zero plus those stats on an offense says something. Just hard to do, more so when Mizzou had the week off to prepare.
If they keep pushing, get some players back from injuries, stay out of injuries to key players, and expand the passing game of the run, Dawgs could make some noise.

It was a magical game but I await Scorpio (sp) III’s bitches. That ball just kept bouncing right for us. At least we were in position to catch it. Karma gives and Karma takes away. Arkansas scares me.
