Roller coaster

In all my years of Bulldog fandom, I can’t think of a wilder three-day period than the one we’ve just experienced.  The Gurley suspension was a gut punch, but hardly the first.  AJ Green’s suspension was such and then there’s the granddaddy of them all – Herschel’s early departure for the pros.

But Walker left during the offseason, giving me time to adjust.  And the disappointment over Green simply grew deeper as Georgia’s 2010 nightmare of an early season unfolded.

This weekend, though, was different.  This time, the sadness and anger barely lasted a day, as Georgia went to Missouri and delivered what was one of the most satisfying and complete victories of the Richt era.  And the topper came last night, as Agent Muschamp’s latest gift to his alma mater, a timely Gator turnover, led to Georgia finding itself alone and atop the SEC East standings.

No, I didn’t see this season unfolding quite like that.  I doubt you did either.

All this is to say that I understand the emotions that were in play in the message threads yesterday.  I just hope everyone’s gotten them out of their systems.  It’s turned out to be a great year to be a Georgia fan.  Enjoy the moment while it lasts.  Because I suspect the ride will continue to be a wild one.

Let’s just keep it rolling, dawgs! If we happen to get Gurley back, that’s just gravy.

No doubt it was one of the best days for UGA and it’s fans in a long time. Is it too early to start worrying about Arkansas?

No, DB, it is not too early to start worrying about Arkansas…I started when the Fat Lady sang in COMO. Have you seen their offensive line…My God, they are huge, just huge…and our little guys on defense….

Arkansas played Bama to an absolute standstill. A blocked extra point away from OT with Bama. We’ll need a performance similar to yesterday’s by the D to win, but the Dawgs have proved themselves capable to pull it off!

My rabid fandom didn’t begin until the 90’s. I’ve seen the Dawgs win some big games and a few championships. But I’ve never been more proud of a Georgia team than the one I watched yesterday. Sure, we’ve seen the Dawgs beat better teams than the 2014 Mizzou Tigers, but we’ve also seen them fold under adversity to much worse teams. With the way the rest of the day played out, it’s great to be a Bulldog today.

  5. Not to sound too fretful, but Georgia has GOT to be able to generate explosive passing plays if they are going to win the East and stay with whatever Mississippi school wins the West. Gurley might not be back for a while, and while that is a disgusting farce, it’s reality.

Missouri couldn’t stop UGA’s running game yesterday, but they bottled it up for a bit and the Georgia defense kept sending the Tiger defense out on the field every 2 minutes. Think what we could have done offensively if we could have hit some deep passes.

Explosive pass plays aren’t in the cards for the Dawgs this year. Got to get is done in different ways.

Yup. Gotta just move it methodically. Get some yards on first and second and then convert 3rd and 5 with short passes.

Oh, PLEASE open up a can of whoop ass like that against the Gators..

    • No kidding. I have no personal animosity towards Mizzou, so it would be much more satisfying to gut Florida like we did the Tigers yesterday.

    • Have to say, the Gators have some play-ahs and a mean defense. But they also have Driskel and Muschamp.

Mauk and the Mizzou team played their worst game ever. Mauk waited for us to have that day. He is much better than yesterday and his failure is totally a scalp hanging from the Dawg D’s lodgepole It was because of them that Mauk played so badly. Nowhere to throw because receivers were covered and when he dared to throw, D intercepted or stripped it. Pinkel said afterwards that he can’t remember ever having five turnovers and four interceptions among them in his entire career.

Pinkel is right up there with Richt and can coach a team back. They just lost too much talent from the East Championship team last year and getting rid of D G-B is a mark of his gutsy no-nonsense discipline policy, very much like Richt.

Neither Mauk or Pinkel should be mentioned with Driskel and Muschamp. Two differing birds.

Well said, Cojo and I agree 100%. Mizzou is a program adjusting in a positive way to the SEC grind. Florida…wow…I really don’t know what Florida is right now. It’s an obvious dumpster fire, but you have to wonder how Florida could be this bad with the talent they have to call on in-state.

I would prefer to blame Dickhead for Florida, but you gotta wonder.

        • I was referring to Mizzou’s defense, which I believe is probably as good as Florida’s and which we battered into submission yesterday. I certainly wasn’t comparing Pinkel to Muschamp, because that’s libelous.

I have the unpleasant habit of not putting a smiley face on many remarks because I think that everyone knows my shortcomings here. If that came off as a correction, I apologize because it was meant to increase the compliment that you gave.

Your comments, as well as all the remarks of team fans, give us insight and hope in this team and is the stickyness of this blog.

You bet their D was good enough for us to take full pleasure on 34 pts scored. Can’t wait to see how this game changes our D rankings. Don’t believe I’ve ever seen the backs cover the receivers while, simultaneously, the D line is ripping through and chasing like Hairy-ass Dawgs. It makes for an even better game review when you observe the D only.

  7. Well said. How proud am I of Nick Chubb can’t be expressed in words. In pads and a helmet he looked like a man. But after the game in his interviews he looked like a baby. I forget how young these guys are.

    I am old.

I felt the same. He is only a couple of years older than my son. It has given me a new perspective on watching football. I am more appreciative when a group of teenagers/young men can come together and perform like they did against Mizzou.

I resented the announcers dubbing him “Baby Gurley” from the start. They got away from it in the second half, but players need to be identified with the work they accomplish, not be compared to a different standard.

Anyway, Mizzou was “Chubbed” to death.

Not since my wife regaled with laughter while pointing at it.

As I’ve told you before, I take Viagra to keep from peeing on my sandals. The last time that occurred, about ten chickens gathered to watch in the wide open free-range outdoors. A couple of hens had kinky smiles.

I’m thinking of getting a piece of rope and heading for the closet.

Oh, and the MRI on the wife’s head was negative. Just can’t understand what’s causing all her headaches.

Imagine his family’s glee in their son who is less than a year from last year’s HS team, starting and accomplishing a grown man’s work as a UGA Dawg in his Freshman year.

Now, think how excited the 2015 recruits are and how excited future recruits can feel. Mason, the O line and the D just recruited more for ’15 and ’16.

Mauk was epically bad…how much was him and how much was our D I’m still trying to wrestle with. Arky and gators present similar opportunities to show if the D can really exploit poor QB play. Nick Marshall is a different cat.

In the SEC QB race, Prescott and Wallace are certainly proving their worth. And poor ol’ Hutson just keeps on winning.

For obvious reasons, Nick Chubb is getting lots of plaudits for his game against Missouri, as he should.

But if I might mention Hutson Mason had a pretty good game, too, and with the exception of one goofy play (redux) and one errant throw, he damn sure proved to me he can play football on my team.

    Revenge of the Noodle.

When Herschel went pro my whole family was depressed for weeks…we had fights, arguments…my grandmother took a swing at my father…no joke.
Got up from dinner, walked over and tried to poke him in the snoot.

Losing Todd Gurley was a far more existential problem for me. On the one hand, if it is proven conclusively that Gurley did, in fact, sell autographs, it is sad on many levels, but it is against the rules and we will all have to pay a price for this, with Todd Gurley.

But in a larger sense, what happened to Todd Gurley is just a symptom…just one of the last breaths of a corrupt system. And in that sense I would prefer Todd Gurley stand up in some forum and say to us that he did it knowing it was against the rules, knowing he and we would suffer, because it needed to be done.

Because if Todd Gurley is guilty, we are all guilty. All of us who support this corrupt system…a thinly veiled plantation system where the inept and corrupt NCAA is the overseer with the whip.

A system where the most valuable assets are treated like chattel for the entertainment of us fans and for the immense profit of schools, media and corporate sponsors.

The sight of Damian Swann holding up three fingers in support of his brother in arms should be a message to us all.

Free Todd Gurley, now. This outrage must not endure…must not be allowed to endure.

I appreciate your reconciliatory comments in light of the great win yesterday, but I am still in full pitch fork mode. Please adjust your posts accordingly.

I am so happy about Arkansas playing such a physical and emotional game last night. It will benefit us next week.
