Mark May lives to fight another day.

Although it’ll be on ABC instead of ESPN.

The ABC and ESPN studios will also see changes for 2015. John Saunders will continue to anchor Saturday’s ABC studio coverage, along with second-year analyst Mack Brown and 10-year ESPN analyst Mark May, who will make the switch from ESPN’s studio.

Enjoy that, Mack.

Meanwhile it looks like ESPN’s already groomed its next Mark May.

ESPN’s new studio trio features host Adnan Virk with analysts Joey Galloway and Danny Kanell, who will handle pre-game, halftime and post-game reporting on Thursday, Friday and Saturday during the season.

Oh, goody.  I look forward to another season of SEC trolling/bashing by Kanell.  Well, I would if I actually watched ESPN in the studio.

Kannell is the worst, and it’s not even because of his anti-SEC schtick.

I mean, he has such a weenie personality and literally a weak voice. He giggles and stammers and when he is called out on his anti-SEC stuff he just can’t back it up. Ryan Rucillo of all people took him down pretty easily on the radio about it the other day.

What I’m saying is, he’s just not good at his job.

You just articulated my thoughts on the guy. Kannel has a speaking voice like Tebow, with out the hardware to back it up.

That can only mean that he’s being groomed for one of the top slots in the corporation.

  2. I don’t care. I don’t watch or listen to those ESPN/ABC dopes now and I won’t be watching or listening to them in the future. If they didn’t have the (what I consider illegal, monopolistic) tie in to mandatory programming on cable nobody would be watching/listening to them.

  3. I watch enough of the studio shows to get highlights from the games I missed due to being in Athens. The opinion shows including GameDay make my ears bleed.

Just when I was thinking things might improve with Dr Lou and May gone, they crush me with Kanell. I do actually watch because here in the winter wonderland there is no other option. Local channels don’t know colleges play football. All NFL all the time here so I take what I can get. Kanell is a downgrade in my opinion, but I’ll put up with it to get my fix.

No matter where you live, local TV doesn’t give you much coverage outside live games which are available everywhere. I still don’t watch ESPN talking heads. What does help, outside the internet sites, is Sirius XM’s college football station all year through the car, or at home and having Spotify where I can get local radio stations from all over the world. I can pick up pre and post game shows from any local college football areas and I can tie it through my whole house sound system with Sonos. Haven’t missed ESPN, but do wish they would act more like a “leader”. We can all hope they get some worthy competition soon.

Thanks for the info, might try spotify radio. My 14 yr old likes the music and has tried to get his dad into it but I didn’t know the local radio stations were also and option.

On a more positive note, I think Galloway is pretty good from what limited time I have seen him.

I guess I’m the only one who didn’t mind Holtz/May. I didn’t watch it for insightful comments, I watched it because it was shtick. At least Holtz livened up the place after Trev Alberts. Alberts just seemed to be bitter because he had to work with May. If you didn’t take May seriously, he ain’t so bad. Kanell? I’m going to really have to search for an alternative.

I was already becoming somewhat apathetic toward football. (I quit watching the Pros 15 years ago). ESPN’s antics and the NCAA’s hypocrisy and dirty tactics really kinda brought it to a head last year. With the Gurley suspension and the Jamies Winston saga it only worsened. The Florida game was the stake to the heart. I had my TV cut off the following Monday. It won’t be turned back on. I decided life is too short to spend precious time in front of a TV. I’ll catch the games on the radio while fishing or spending beautiful fall Saturdays outside with my family. And yes, I AM getting old and cranky.

A few years ago a friend of mine, who had 4 children under age 12, decided he had enough of TV because he didn’t like its influence on his kids. So he took the TV out over the protestations of everybody else in his household–including his wife. After about a week of fussing things settled down. The family started eating together at real mealtimes. They actually talked i.e. had real conversations. The children read books. His wife took up knitting. He became well read on current events through magazines and newspapers. This lasted for several years but I understand he relented and reinstalled the tube in his house. I think I’ll call him and ask how things are working out now.

I’ve no regrets. My kids read a lot more now and it shows. Justt as with your friend, we talk more and are closer as a family. My wife loves it, so I don’t see us going back. Oh, and ESPN can kiss my butt.

On the bright side, Kannell is all-in on CMR being the Greatest. His act after the Dawgs truck Tech this year might lead the narrative Georgia’s way–not to be confused with the Georgia Way

I could not care less who the talking heads are on ESPN, CBS, ABC, NBC, Fox, etc. It would suit me fine if there was a test pattern or some regular tv show on right up to the moments before kickoff.

I’m confused. Which Star Wars movie was it that introduced the Adnan Virk character?

    Like

    • Adnan Virk…WTF… that name sounds all made up and flatulent. A Canadian Muslin is hired by the American Broadcasting Company to explain the game of American football to us ignorant Americans. I understand pretty women on the sidelines asking halftime questions because after all sex does sell but what besides “Diversity” for diversity’s sake is this numbnut bringing to the table?

      Like

      • Well, dang. All these years I thought Musa Smith knew something about the game of football and it turns out he didn’t, ’cause he’s of one of them Moose-lems. Shoot.

        Like

        • Did Adnan Virk play today? No, and probably never did. So to answer my own question. Musa would bring football knowledge to a …..o I don’t know…a football show. WTF is Adnan bring to the show besides an addition to the “All Name” competition?.

ESPN could probably add Steve Patterson in a year or so. It’d be a nice complement to May and Kannell. And I hear that Brian Williams could be hired on the cheap, as well. I don’t know if Brian knows as much about football as he does combat, but that football prerequisite is rather loosely applied anyway.

I can’t wait for Brian Williams’ stories about his high school football career and his near-death experience on the bus coming back from the game.

      +1 Cannon.

Meh. I watch the show to get the highlights around the country, If the talking heads make a good point, I will agree. If they don’t, I will disagree. Dr. Lou and the courtroom antics took time away from my highlights. That was the only thing I really ever had a problem with.

  15. I don’t have the screencapture handy, but Mr. Kanell claimed that Lousville would sweep the SEC East after they lost to FSU last season and that was fun to retweet multiple times after the Belk Bowl.

I mean – I get that anti-SEC thing is his schitck just like PAWWWWLLLLL has Bama love as his schtick, but I don’t know that I’d go out on THAT far of a limb to declare one team would win against 7 other teams with no doubt in my mind.

Hell, it’s their money. Why can’t they hire who they want? They don’t own the remote control, after all. At least they haven’t given Snookie or Prince a CFB desk job yet.

I hope ABC revives that courtroom schtick with May. It was always entertaining, inciteful and far more meaningful than covering the scores and highlights.

Probably won’t work on ESPN…Kannel would be too nervous in a courtroom environment as a FSU grad.
