When you don’t make your third-down conversions, you don’t tend to get too many plays a game.
In case you’re wondering, the defense is handling a little over 66 plays a game, which ranks 74th nationally. Over the long haul, no, that’s not good math.
To be fair, missing an entire quarter in the first game due to weather, having 2 punt return TDs, and a defensive TD or two will hurt your plays per game stat.

Seven games in, the missing plays from the ULM game wouldn’t add too much to the average. And the defense didn’t play that quarter, either.

If you don’t make first downs you can’t “go fast” either. If you try that your D is back out on the field faster than you can say “gassed.”

I thought we were going to go fast this season…better to play ball control to keep our defense off the field…

anyone feel like the 3rd down film work helped this past week?
seems like while the drives didnt result in points, the drives did at least last longer than 3 plays, which was nice.

Only Pitt and Georgia in that group have a winning record and neither has beaten anyone worth a crap

I have to say, that doesn’t look like a good list to be on. Change one or two plays vs UT though and everything thinks all is fine.

Doing some quick guesstimating math, the Tennessee game is solely responsible for the gap in offensive and defensive plays run, the numbers would be basically the same otherwise
