I didn’t get the chance to take part in the AB-H midseason blogger roundtable podcast – sometimes duty in the real world calls – but a question was asked that I thought would be fun to discuss here: Who is your midseason MVP?
Chubb, despite the injury, is probably the obvious choice, but I’ve gotta say, if I’m Mark Richt, my midseason MVP is Kenneth Towns. If he doesn’t make the touchdown saving tackle on the first play of last Saturday’s game and Mizzou goes up 7-0, who’s to say how things would have played out from there? Had Georgia not recovered from that and lost a third straight game, the second to another team it should have beaten, the reaction to that would have made what we heard last week sound like sweetness and light.
Your thoughts?
Malcolm Mitchell. Without his dominance, Greyson goes from average/inconsistent to terrible, Godwin never gets open to develop, and we have zero passing game. That further clogs the box and makes the run game suffer.

+1. Malcolm Mitchell is one of the few vestiges of a team I naively once thought would be a contender.

If TN loses to Bama, and we win out from here, beating Alabama, we will make the playoffs because people will blame the Bama loss on the weather. You have to let the SEC Champion in the playoff. We’re still in contention.

Malcom had a big impact in the South Carolina and Southern games in particular. He only had 36, 49 and 52 yards in the other 3 wins.

It’s hard to argue with your logic, Senator. We would have beaten the other 4 teams with Sony at tailback and should have beaten Tooth Nation with Sony. DawgNation would have been on suicide watch if we had lost last week. While Towns may not be the team’s MVP, he probably made the play of the year to this point.

Sony is an excellent choice. He has scored a lot of points and played well in each of the 5 wins.

When Chubb went down at Tennessee the team was emotionally devastated and hasn’t recovered. It is his team.

We led 24-3 at one point after the injury and was one 4th down stop from putting the game away at halftime. While it was devastating to the team, it’s not like we shouldn’t have still won the game.

I agree, two plays that was the difference in UGA winning: 1) first play loss of Chubb, we would have won with him there all game, and 2) the double fluke 4th and 3 pass completion that flipped a minimum of 14 points UT’s way. Still could have/should have won but either of those plays were the difference.
MM is the MVP for me, and it isn’t close. What a great year he is having, hope it continues for a DGD.

Chubb only had a hand in 4 wins, he can’t be the MVP, it would have to a player who had an impact in all 5 wins.

Malcolm Mitchell. Big play every game. Schotty has got to find a way to get the ball to him more.

Good pick, he’s be my No 3 behind Lambert and Sony. Ganus would be my No 4.

Although I would’ve said Malcolm, how about Jake Ganus just to offer someone different. With Herrera and Wilson gone if he hadn’t decided to come to UGA we would’ve been very weak at inside linebacker. Apart from that he leads the team in tackles and is the defensive play caller and leader along with Sanders.

Good pick, he leads the team in tackles. He has been the best defensive player overall. Heck of a stop on the goaline last game too. Great read on his keys, great timing, great speed in filling the hole, he blew that whole series up.

It was a great hustle play. I’m sure Lambert would have just turned it on a bit more had that td happened, let’s face it, the Mizzou offense is bottom 3 in the country.
My MVP would hands down be Lambert. I feel he is the most responsible person for the 5 wins, much more than just 1 great play. We saw in the TN game, that Sony when healthy is pretty much interchangeable with Chubb. I think Sony had a groin injury in the Mizzou game.
His line in the 5 wins is something like 75% completions, 9 ypa, and a 180 pass rating.

Chubb could have, would have, been the difference against Tenn., Mizzou.,&

Towns’ play was huge and a great testament to hustling though every play. Play of the year so far and I’m glad he’s getting the recognition he deserves for it.
My MVP beyond Chubb is MM.

Both are bad picks for MVP.

Till the first play of the Tennessee game, Nick Chubb, by a thousand yards.
Jake Ganus has made an impression, as has Malcolm. If he had caught that ball, 81. Sterling Bailey has done some good work, so has Sony.
The truth is we don’t have an MVP in my mind in the season, Post Nick.
More after Saturday. Personally, I am pulling for Lambert. I need to pull for Lambert. So do you.

Learn to read, BRO….if one is “pulling for Lambert”, it stands to reason one would be observant of his importance to the team, does it not?
Besides, chili, changing your handle does nothing for your football IQ.

Pretty sure this is our old friend Thomas. Everyone should go visit his sight for a truly epic rant on what it means to be a Disney Dawg. I think he got some help from some folks around here and the gratuitous bashing of the Senator is amusing. WARNING: NSFIP (intelligent people).

Yep. If only QB play racked up wins and losses via QBR. Sometimes what the stats reveal is less important than what they don’t.

Good question. Ganus was my first thought. Mitchell is a great player but it doesn’t seem right to give the MVP to a receiver when we are a run heavy offense, and I can’t go with Chubb when he only played 4 games. It’s a strange year and I know we say that a lot.
