The definition of beast mode

Per Ed Aschoff,

What might be the most impressive stat about Nick Chubb’s return is that 194 of his 222 rushing yards came with at least eight defenders in the box. That ranked first nationally. He averaged 7.76 ypc on these runs.

Go ahead and keep loading the box, though.  Jacob Eason and his receivers can use all the extra help they can get.

    Wow. That’s all I’ve got.

  2. I so happy for Nick that he is healthy and I hope he stays that way all year. It looks like the medical staff has cleared Sony Michel so I am hopeful that we will be able to pick our spots to give Nick 25+ carries.

He reminds me so much of a slightly bigger and faster Emmitt Smith and I think he can have an even better NFL career if he stays healthy.

Not taking anything at all away form Chubb, at least some of that credit should go to the big uglies and to play design. Down linemen, TEs, Payne, Chaney and Pittman all made contributions. 15-0!!!

I was watching the end of the game the other night and he seemed to be moving gingerly, to put it nicely. Please tell me he was just gassed and otherwise uninjured? That last tackle looked a bit nasty.

I thought the same thing, even on the long run he seemed to pull up a little. Get him completely ready for the Vols.

Being ground into the turf by Chubb & co. seems much worse than Cool Hand Luke’s “night in the box”.

It is more impressive when you look at number two: Miami’s Gus Edwards was second nationally with 99 yards in the same situation but he did have a 74-yard run help him out

Also, 74 of Chubb’s yards were after contact.

  7. Its not long from being a hard decision for DCs. If you dont load up – Chubb will get 10-20 a pop. If you do load up, Eason over the next 3-6 games as he gets his feel is going to start raining down drone strikes.

Once Eason can make all the reads quickly, and sell his looks and fakes a little smoother, look out.

When everyone said Chaney used his TE’s I bet nobody thought it was as overload blockers. Eight in the box doesn’t matter nearly as much if you have 5 offensive lineman plus two tight ends and a fullback to get a hat on a hat. Chubb’s greatest talent as a running back is his ability to see the holes that that whole mass of humanity has created. Running to daylight was the old term for it. Looking at some of those formations I thought I had warped back to the days of the Student Body Left and Right.

    • The folks that are into X and Os totally took notice of the jumbo packages. The announcers sucked for not doing dilly squat to see that the formations for Eason were way different that Lambert. Empty sets, jumbo sets, 5 out…SEXY TIME!
